End Of The World Posted November 11, 2016 Posted November 11, 2016 Hi guys. I created this thread to discuss about what song by GD changed your life, your way to see things and to act. I'm not specifically talking about your favorite song. But the most important. My choice is Still Breathing. It's not my favorite song. I prefer songs from Dookie, Insomniac or Nimrod. But, again, is the most important in my (short) life. In fact, just these days I'm experiencing fully the meaning of the song, maybe because of the music video, or because right now I'm having problems with school and with myself. I have noticed that SB has the power to give you the charge and the energy to go on. It's like I see a light that in other songs I can't see. Hope you understand. If you have time, please share your story.
Steven Seagull Posted November 11, 2016 Posted November 11, 2016 None. They're just songs. Songs can't change your life.

Billie Hoe Posted November 11, 2016 Posted November 11, 2016 East Jesus Nowhere kind of changed my life. I was already into Green Day before that song came out, but when my struggle with my catholic parents began, I became a full blown fan. My parents didn't accept that I didn't want to go to church anymore, they didn't accept that I questioned religion or had negative opinions about it. I was 14 or 15 during that time and it was one of the worst times of my life because my relationship with my parents completely fell apart for a very, very long time. I listened to that song every day (also on the way to and from church, where my parents dragged me every Sunday) and I wrote the lyrics on my wall, in my school books, online statuses and anywhere you can think of. I talked about it with my best friend, but I was too ashamed to tell her about the physical and emotional abuse I endured, so I was alone with it, except for Green Day. It was a huge comfort to know that someone out there wasn't afraid to speak up. So they kind of spoke for me, because I couldn't. The song will always hit home, even if I don't listen to it a lot these days. Also yes, Still Breathing is a close second. Agreed on all points. I don't think it changed my life as much as my attitude. It's a really hopeful and resilient song, it's like no matter how much shit you're going through, you're still kickin' and always will. It's the only Green Day song that has ever made me break down crying. I've become a really nihilistic person, I do a lot of "jokes" about dying or killing myself (humor as a coping mechanism) or utter the wish to die but I know that I will never stop. Even if I just stay alive out of spite, I will stay alive.
AmyxLongview Posted November 11, 2016 Posted November 11, 2016 Boulevard of Broken Dreams because it's the song that made me a fan, and becoming a fan changed my life. It's also just a great song.
inthehallwaynow Posted November 11, 2016 Posted November 11, 2016 The Grouch - When I started to realize at a young age that not everything works out the way you want it to King for A Day - Even though its about wearing women's clothing it still made me feel better about liking more feminine stuff and not identifying as a mans man
Leni. Posted November 11, 2016 Posted November 11, 2016 Sorry, I can't pick only one I would say Minority, She, Reject, Who Wrote Holden Caulfield or J.A.R. I'm not a person, who feels comfortable being told what to do or not by the goverment or authorities or anyone in particular. I feel like I'm responsible for my own actions. That also means, that I don't feel free when there's always some institution that needs to know everything about my life - my education, job, etc. Those songs spoke to me especially when I was exposed to "The Adult World" for the first time and kinda helped me to get through the growing up to this - sometimes weird - place to live, full of people who are awaiting from you to be the next "sheep" and just do the things which regular people do. There are songs that express my views on social issues too - Road To Acceptance, American Eulogy. These songs feel really important to me - they kind of helped to shape me, over the years, as a person to someone that I feel comfortable to be and don't feel ashamed for being like that - being myslef. So these songs will be always the ones for me that I really appreciate being written.
St. Jonny Posted November 11, 2016 Posted November 11, 2016 Might be a shorter list to list the ones that did NOT change my life but here are some of the bigger ones that certainly carried me through some seriously shitty times : (no order) Burnout When I Come Around Christie Road Who Wrote Holden Caulfield? Good Riddance Pulling Teeth Boulevard Of Broken Dreams Jesus Of Suburbia X-Kid Brutal Love Disappearing Boy Going To Pasalacqua No One Knows Android Armatage Shanks (nearly everything on Dookie and Insomniac in some way) Stuck With Me Walking Alone Hold On Restless Heart Syndrome Macy's Day Parade
platypus136 Posted November 11, 2016 Posted November 11, 2016 i would not say that a song changed my life, for I´m still very young and there was not big change yet but there are a few Green Day songs that influenced me Good Riddance, because its just beautiful and sad Minority, this song can help to survive tough days One of my lies (its kind of philosophic) Bouncing off the wall - I just am in a great moon whenever I listen to that song * mood I´m not in a great MOON, but i´d like to. Space is wonderful...
RougeRogue Posted November 11, 2016 Posted November 11, 2016 Honestly, I can't say any song did at all. It was a collective of the band and the experiences I had because of the band. For example, meeting my (guaranteed to be life-long) best friend via an old forum. And the experiences keep piling up and keep happening. She and I will see a GD show together for the first time. They brought us together 7 years ago and that's pretty life changing.
Ric503 Posted November 11, 2016 Posted November 11, 2016 So many changed my life haha. Well American Idiot (was the one I first listened from GD), Jesus of Suburbia (made me start to learn to play guitar), and all of the songs from 21stCB made me a better person and helped me through tough times.

The guys suffered from lack of popularity at the time but a radio station here in our country decided to play the song. I was having lunch during a summer trip, I instantly fell in love with the melody. I mean, the Warning era was a flop here and sometimes I ponder over the fact that it was a beautiful casualty to listen to something from that record on the radio. Then AI came out and it was the soundtrack of my last years at primary school/early teen years. I can relate to many songs on AI that I now love more than anything from Warning, but if it wasn't for Waiting my childhood/teen life would have been really different.
Robin105 Posted November 12, 2016 Posted November 12, 2016 Boulevard Of Broken Dreams changed my life. Not only was it the song that got me into Green Day but it also introduced me to a whole new genre of music. I actually cried when they played it at Webster Hall which I never did before. But I guess seeing them play the song that changed my life forever live from the front row got me emotional.
petros Posted November 12, 2016 Posted November 12, 2016 Minority for sure. Live from Bullet In a Bible actually.
unextraordinarygirl Posted November 12, 2016 Posted November 12, 2016 I really can't say that any Green Day song or even the band themselves changed my life; I just enjoy the songs and can relate to the emotion in them.
JOE THE X-KID Posted November 12, 2016 Posted November 12, 2016 Lots of them really but the main one I think is X-kid. being a young adult finding it extremely hard to fit into the adult world, kinda living in the past, means I can find comfort In the song. I remember even breaking down a few years ago listening to it
bouncingoffthewallbja Posted November 12, 2016 Posted November 12, 2016 This is hard! I have a couple for a few different reasons: Still Breathing - I heard this the day it was released in a bowling alley on our class trip to Germany in September. I went through so much effort to connect to the wifi and I instantly looked up the song on YouTube. I only managed to listen to the first two minutes though BC we had to leave. I watched the lyric video while walking out of the place, walking into anything and everything and listening through one earbud, but I didn't care. I was just so into the song, knowing instantly what it was about. To this day, my friends ask me about my 'emotional episode' at that bowling alley. Boulevard of Broken Dreams/Walking Alone: These two are particularly meaningful to me - constantly being around the same people who wouldn't even notice if I had left somewhere! It's probably been like this for 4/5 years now. Also, the majority of people my age that I know don't accept other people's interests if they are different to their own e.g I'm the only person I know personally who is a big GD fan. Sometimes, I find these songs comforting as it feels like other people (GD!) are feeling how I am and understand what it's like to be alone. I'd probably include Christie Road here, for similar kinds of reasons. Holiday/American Idiot/Minority/ Revolution Radio (and other political songs) - these songs tell us to stand up for what we believe and make ourselves be heard, which I find quite difficult, for the fear of what other people will think. Good Riddance (Time of Your Life): this was the first GD song I ever heard, when I was around 5/6. I remember always hearing it on the radio, loving its simplicity, melody (just everything about it)! Even though I didn't know the name of the song until a while after the first listen, when I learned of it, I remembered all those car journeys when I was younger, hearing this song, and how it started my early love for Green Day! I think that all of GDs songs have impacted/changed my life in some way, I just included these ones because it would be too long to include them all!! In short, Green Day changed my life and made me who I am today, and I'll always support Billie Joe, Mike and Tré no matter what! RAGE AND LOVE!!!
DeJennsitized Posted November 13, 2016 Posted November 13, 2016 For me it's Holiday, which changed my life in the sense that it got me into GD, and I can't imagine life without this band. I also think the BIAB version of Basket Case was also a turning point, and made me realise this wasn't just a case of 'hey this band is cool'. It was probably a point where I was like 'jeez I fucking love this band!'

Wretched & Divine Posted November 13, 2016 Posted November 13, 2016 I don't think there has been any one song, but Green Day was my rock throughout the most turbulent years of depression when I was a teenager. I hesitate to ever say "x saved my life" because I firmly believe in the strength of oneself as an individual. But can I say with certainty I would still be here were it not for Green Day? No.
