Most over hated Green Day songs

What is the most over hated Green Day song in your opinion? For me, it's platypus. I don't see many people on this site who hate it, but it seems everywhere else I look people just hate it.

Over-hate? As in songs that are hated that don't quite deserve the bad rap, or songs that are just simply the most hated?

The most common answer you will hear is Nightlife on here for the most hated song.

I haven't heard hate for Platypus. That's a great song

The song Lady Cobra isn't really "hated" but I think a lot of people just decide not to like that track because of it's association with Nightlife, when in fact it's a great song

Also Kill The DJ. It's repetitive, but the lyrics in the verses are fantastic.

I like Nightlife too and while it is overhated, I do understand why people hate it

I actually don't think that Nightlife is the most hated, there are alot of people that like it, me included.  I don't think you can really pick a most hated, just like you can't really pick a most loved.  There are alot of songs that fall into the each category, but it is so subjective you will never reach consensus.

Sweet 16 gives me fucking ear herpes i cannot s t a n d that song, it's too damn sugary sounding. And nightlife and troublemaker are pretty awful too not gonna lie

Oh yeah, I can understand it too, it's not remotely what you'd expect from Green Day. I just happen to strongly disagree.

For me it's probably Kill the DJ. I don't get it! It's a great song, definitely one of the best from the trilogy. Also, I've seen quite a few people on YouTube diss Dominated Love Slave. I think that DLS is a quality song!!

It's filler on Nimrod. It's ok to listen to on its own but in terms of with the rest of the album, it makes no sense. It would be better if it was a B-side or something

I think that Nightlife, in particular the bridge/solo, would make a great instrumental for a drama or something! I totally agree that it's near to impossible to clearly define a most loved/hated song, but from what I've seen from GDC, there's a lot of love for JoS!

I totally agree with you! It kinda reminds me of Peacemaker, for the fact that it makes me want to go for a drive through the desert or something like that!

I have a feeling this is going to turn into a thread about the Trilogy, which is the most over-hated thing they've ever done.   

I feel like the ballads get a lot of hate from certain fans but I love a good slow song.

Yeah, probably! I don't mind Billie Joe's vocals, it's just the rap that puts me off it, although someone on YouTube said they found a version without Lady Cobra. Unfortunately, they didn't post a link, but I think that more people would probably enjoy it that way, with just Billie singing!

I think I would like it if it was just Billie singing but with good lyrics and no voice filter.

There's a video on Youtube that they just cut off the parts where Lady Cobra sings I saw it once and was all excited but it was just that. I wish we had the tracks of that one like we have for the songs that are on Rock Band!

Nightlife (rap oh no), Kill the DJ (repeated phrase in a chorus like half of all songs have how terrible), Troublemaker (BMXcellent tits), Sex Drugs and Violence (sex drugs and violence, English math and science is apparently a notably bad lyric, not sure why), The Forgotten (Twilight), Sweet 16 (mentioning "sweet 16" is apparently creepy and/or WAY too sweet/sappy even though it just refers to a 16th wedding anniversary), Christian's Inferno (sounds like the Network/chorus and verse apparently don't go together well), Take Back (growling) and Last Ride In (instrumental and down tempo) are the songs I've seen hated on most frequently on GDC, usually for the reasons that I've helpfully added here . And I like all of them. Also King for a Day/Shout as a live performance is ridiculously over-hated.

Agreed, I can kind of understand the reasons for most of the others even when I strongly disagree, but Kill the DJ is just a fabulous song. And people dissing Dominated Love Slave is outrageous!

Haven't seen Platypus hated on other than a few people disapproving of the fact it was about a real person who was dying at the time, seems to be mostly well liked which is quite impressive given that fact . Didn't realise there was much hate for it around.

I think you're right though, and it's such a shame, because there are quite a few solid tracks from the trilogy imo (99 Revolutions/Kill the DJ/Nuclear Family/X-Kid etc etc)

And I totally agree about the ballads. Brutal Love played on my GD playlist literally 30 minutes ago, and I could just feel myself getting lost in the song (if that makes any sense?!!). The Forgotten is pretty sweet as well!

For many songs that get some hate I think the hate or at least the disliking is legitimate. For example Nightlife, Oh Love or 21 guns I don't think are the top of Green Day's career, so I see why many people dislike them. For over-hated songs (this is, to my understanding, songs that are hated too much when there's no reason to hate them or hate them as much), I'd say Kill the DJ and Last Ride In.

This is a great summary  I agree! I don't really like Nightlife or Sweet 16 for different reasons than those but I like the rest a lot.

I nearly forgot about KFAD! On the ideal show/playlist thread, so many people have cut it from their ideal GD show. It's not one of the best GD songs, but it's definitely one of the most entertaining!

Personally I'd like it more if Billie wasn't on it at all. The choruses are the worst parts.
