Siddharth_471 Posted October 14, 2016 Posted October 14, 2016 So today I was reading my newspaper and got to know that Bob Dylan won Nobel Prize for literature. In its history of 115 years Nobel Prize is for the first time being awarded to a musician and I think for a songwriter its definitely a big achievement. The second thought that came to me was about Billie (yes, seriously!). Bob Dylan is renowned as more of an "informal historian'' of traditions because of his songs while in case of Billie, Green Day's early albums were mostly lyrics full of angst but still having some really meaningful songs and I'd say they were most visible since around Nimrod and Warning and mostly with AI, 21stCB and RevRad also seems to be in a similar vein. Many present songwriters write socio-political themed tracks but currently I can hardly think of anyone having as much cultural impact as that of GD through their songs due to Billie's lyrics. (Meanwhile, scientists in NASA are still trying to figure out the lyrics to "Strangeland" ) Well maybe not anytime soon but can Billie win a Nobel Prize?
UNICORN VOMIT Posted October 14, 2016 Posted October 14, 2016 @Siddharth_471 is this just a random GD thought?

Spike Posted October 14, 2016 Posted October 14, 2016 Wait… really? I love the guy as much as anyone, but… really? Dylan shouldn't even have won it anyway.
tresexy101 Posted October 14, 2016 Posted October 14, 2016 I will come out and say what everyone is thinking. No. Billie Joe will not win a nobel prize. This is extremely ludicrous to even think that. What on earth are you smoking, inhaling, digesting - wait, you are from Flint, Mi and toxins affected your brain? I don't want to insult you even though I just did but you wouldn't understand it anyway, but please stick to reading and your schooling. Peace and Love

I can think of a possibility only because Dylan won it else I would have also called it a joke. Nothing much to be serious. Are you doing okay man?
WhiteTim Posted October 14, 2016 Posted October 14, 2016 Billie isn't anywhere close to Dylan lyrically (not a slight on Billie)
Second favourite son Posted October 14, 2016 Posted October 14, 2016 I love Billie Joe Armstrong, but he does not deserve a Nobel Prize in literature for his lyrics. He'd have an outside chance at a Nobel prize in music if one existed, but I really don't think he'd be anywhere close to getting that either. 1 hour ago, Spike said: Dylan shouldn't even have won it anyway. How come? I thought Dylan was a deserving winner.
BilIie Joe Armstrong Posted October 14, 2016 Posted October 14, 2016 I suppose I'm just as likely to win one for my gdc posts.

Hermione Posted October 14, 2016 Posted October 14, 2016 Billie isn't viewed as a genius songwriter on the same level as someone like Bob Dylan (even taking into account that he's younger - Dylan's been seen as a total legend of a songwriter and the voice of a generation etc since he was young) so I don't think it would happen for him. I do see your point, it is interesting that the possibility of a songwriter winning the Nobel prize for literature is there now. If I was on the board I'd give him it , think in reality it'd only happen again for the most top level, universally recognised songwriting icons though.
Chin for a Day Posted October 14, 2016 Posted October 14, 2016 Billie can sing and he is hot, Bob doesn't have those things going for him. But seriously, no, just no. As Tom said, Dylan shouldn't have won it either. My guess is that it was a slow year in the literature world.
Billie Hoe Posted October 14, 2016 Posted October 14, 2016 I love Billie and will forever defend the guy with all I have but this definitely won't happen It's just bizarre to think about him getting a fucking Nobel prize. It'd be more of a lifetime achievement award or something like that, but definitely not a Nobel prize. That'd be like receiving an Oscar for Ordinary World.

I'd like to think Billie's songwriting is at a higher level in the world of music than his acting in Ordinary World is in the world of film . But yeah.

I could legitimately see them winning an Oscar if they had a really good song in a really good film. But yeah a Nobel prize is slightly more ambitious!

It would have to be a huge blockbuster though The only bigger movies I can think of was Transformers with 21 Guns and Breaking Dawn with The Forgotten but neither movie is Oscar worthy
unextraordinarygirl Posted October 14, 2016 Posted October 14, 2016 Billie winning a Nobel Prize? Hahaha No!
