To me it sounds like a common topic recently which is how he feels with his on again off again up and down struggle with a harmful habit. Reach for a knife, let it go, live it up, give up, it’s a curse, the worst, mama raised a bomb.. it’s in his nature to be a hellion but he fights against it. A couple of images I love are “useless as a … crippled ballerina” and “waiting on the sun like a star that’s blowing up”. It’s like another way of describing himself as a dead man walking. Like disaster has already struck but he doesn’t know it yet. He might write a lot about a short list of themes but no one captures the human condition and describes feelings in a simple yet relatable and emotional way like he does. He somehow always avoids sounding too self indulgent or self pitying. Like with Smash It Like Belushi the message is when you’re feeling this way just keep your head down keep going and rip shit up. It’s empowering 💚13 points

Billie Joe on today’s ceremony via Instagram ”Where do I start? 1987? 1982? Today was like a fever dream. To see a lot of our friends and family all together to celebrate the walk of fame was unreal and beautiful. I remember playing Rajis in 1992. Never in my wildest fever dreams did I ever imagine this. Walking down the blvd. Gazing at the stars of Marilyn Monroe and Charlie Chaplin and so many more. Never once did I think this would be possible for me Mike and Tre. Mike brought tears to my eyes when he mentioned my mom Ollie. Jamming at my house in Rodeo California while she was making spaghetti. Last but not least our extended family and idiot nation. I’m always reluctant to use the word “fans” because you’ve all been on this journey with us for generations. In the immortal words of Shirley and Lee- “Let the good times roll”!” Sobbing he’s so happy about this moment9 points

I prefer these deluxe editions to a throw away EP, and I have a feeling that's what Green Day are thinking as well. Why put out an EP that nobody's going to pay any attention to when you could do a few more songs and do a full on album cycle. These bonus tracks are a lot like 1972 in that way. Remember all the hype - "Green Day have 6 songs, aaaaagh!" But this time, it's adding to the album, giving us fan a more satisfying conclusion to the Saviors era, may it continue so far that it overlaps into - and yeah, I don't leave without doing it- ALBUM 15 ERA, oh yeah!!!!!8 points

This isn’t exactly true. Celebrities don’t just “buy a star” when they want one. They need to be nominated and, if selected, there is a cost required in order to make and maintain the star as well as safely hold the ceremony and invite fans for free — this is usually sponsored by a studio, record label, etc. It makes sense you have to pay for it since it’s a chamber of commerce-run initiative — they’re not going to foot the bill themselves to do this for wealthy celebrities. But it’s a nomination and selection-based process, and only people who are deemed worthy based on a bunch of factors get one. So it’s definitely earned, not bought. Here’s an article about the process — says they get 200-300 nominations every year: https://variety.com/2020/film/news/hollywood-walk-of-fame-cant-buy-star-1234758589/8 points

Why are we so obsessed with what Fantano thinks? Is he influential in a way that I’ve just completely missed?7 points

Not sure if anyone posted here, but Dita Von Teese recently posted to IG about her appearance in the “Redundant” video! https://www.instagram.com/reel/DIrmm1ozM-1/?igsh=MXg2aW5lbjE2c3g0ag== “Fun fact, I was in a @greenday video in the 90’s. I arrived camera ready and in my own dress 💅 #greenday #coachella” I actually didn’t know this myself and now I have another fun fact for the future haha6 points

My thoughts on Ballyhoo: First listen: Meh, don’t know… Second listen: Hm, wait, maybe… Third listen: YES! Love it!!! And even if it was recorded about six months ago, I think it was written at the same time as the Saviors songs, covering similar topics as Dilemma and Goodnight Adeline.6 points

I like the "no hard feelings" part of the song, that's a very sentiment to be shared in song form. Usually in Rock, everything's either antagonist, horny, sad or all of the above, lol. Also, who else is singing about Lolygagging in a sleeping bag? I bet Billie's been glamping recently and he was uh....up to no good in there. Point for originality, I think Green Day are heading in a good direction. It's really cool that the Saviors era is being explored to it's fullest potential. More singles, more videos, more random publicity thingies. I passed a 7-11 just now and thought "should I go in and check out the Punk Bunny Merch, or should I have a midlife crisis in the parking lot? Or both, perhaps?6 points

Ballyhoo is a banger! Would have loved it on the album. Or another album like this! I’m just here for the trilogy vibes haha6 points

Really loving Ballyhoo. After Smash it Like Balushi I was expecting these to just be rejected Saviors songs, and maybe that's what this is -- but it's a very strong one IMO. With Holy Toledo, Saviors and these new tracks it feels like the guys have really found their footing again, with a sound that's still *new* Green Day but with enough of what we love left in. I've spoken a few times about how Saviors feels like a taste of all their previous albums: I feel like this one could have easily sat somewhere on Saviors as the trilogy inspired track.6 points

Just saw the guys' speeches, they were funny and moving! This whole thing is so wholesome and cool.6 points

I'd never heard of him before I joined this site. Users on here seem to have a fascination with whether or not the band get his approval. When it comes to music which is almost entirely subjective medium, it's a bit weird to put so much credence in what some YouTuber thinks. Traditionally, music criticism can offer objective insights by examining musical elements like structure, technical execution, and historical context. As far as I can tell, this guy's content just boils down to whether he likes something or not. I might be getting a bit long in the tooth, but who cares?5 points

Weird to me that the deluxe edition doesn't include Fever.5 points

As soon as I saw Billie yesterday I was like “oh my god he looks hot.” The button-down shirt and leather jacket combo was a great choice.5 points

LOL when they play this song live, you know Billie is going to extend that part with 2 minutes of “SAY HEYYYYYYYY OHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!”5 points

Billie was absolutely gorgeous yesterday, I’m liking the blonde more and more and he’s at peak floof right now 😍😍. Mike and Tre looked great, I thought Tre looked quite slim, has he lost a few pounds? I loved Ryan’s comments about Billie’s skin care but look at his mum, good genes!5 points

I love seeing Adrienne out and about at this event too 🥹5 points

Absolutely. That's a music critic job, clinical analysis of a song, which they may like or not, possibly without any emotional attachment? It was the critics that predicted GD's terminal decline after Warning. And look how wrong they where. A critic's entitled to their opinion of course. But have they got what I have, GD is in my body, soul and spirit. My heart belongs to them coz they make me happy. And SILB & Ballyhoo are awesome, thanks GD. ❤️4 points

Redundant is easily a top 5 music video of Green Day’s the concept alone! I will never know why this song was not a hit single or why it isn’t a live staple. Perfection4 points

PBC cups and straws spotted in Chicago! My friend just grabbed one for me! 🥲 It's 2600 N Lincoln near DePaul. Also my friend is the best. She went to 13 different locations to look for me lol. Even her husband was looking for me! Gotta love it when your friends enable your GD obsession.4 points

The Redundant music video is easily the best music video of the band! Here's another cool fun fact : it premiered on MTV Live on 17th April 1998!4 points

im guessing we might see Hella Tiny Tour 2 at one point Warning 25 is a given, but i wonder if they're gonna say fuck it or not with including a certain concept that ended up getting "stolen" and that would later evolve into AI theres also Punk Bunny, which will always keep on rolling no matter what4 points

Yes, the run of US festivals is quite extensive! It does seem like GD have really enjoyed this tour/cycle. That's why a tiny part of me wondered if they would do some more shows next year before ending this cycle, but it's probably just wishful thinking on my behalf!4 points

My mum told me Mark Hoppus was on Something For the Weekend (UK Sunday morning tv show) yesterday to promote his book and was talking about Blink's "rivalry" with Green Day4 points

Agreed. People can't have much going for them. I see it with other bands too and it's sad and laughable at the same time. When you don't have anything good to say why do you keep spending your time talking about them.4 points

I do like Ballyhoo a lot better than Smash It Like Belushi (though I like Smash It Like Belushi too), but I am not quite sure it is on the same level as the rest of Saviors. Saviors is just so amazing that I can see why these songs didn't make the final cut.4 points
-
Agree on both points, I loved Mike shouting her out for that. And Billie going off on a tangent about writing songs about Adrienne lol Yeah he just didn't seem like the best choice since he only met them recently and all he really had to say was he was glad he could use Good Riddance on his film . They probably asked him because they got on when they met him and know he's a good/funny speaker and he did fine but without being a big fan there was only so much he could do with it. Shame Serena wasn't there to do some real fangirling! Rob's speech is really good, he mentions he's replacement for Serena and as always he's full of enthusiam and pride for the band.4 points

I've been catching up with the this today. I loved their speeches and excitement. The highlight for me was Mike mentioning Billie's mom and thanking her that was so sweet. On the other hand, not a big fan for Ryan Reynold's speech 😶 The bit about Billie Joe's skin care routine was funny, but other than that... I don't know, it just didn't feel very heartfelt to me. I think it would have been nicer to have Serena Williams (btw, I wonder what happened that she missed the event in the end). Still haven't seen Rob Cavallo's speech, but looking forward to that.4 points

I think it has Longshot vibes too, both the music and the melancholy message it’s giving Chasing A Ghost and Happiness.4 points

That was lovely to see. Billie’s mum is amazing, she looks great at 93! Hope to be able to watch it again, I love hearing people say how wonderful our boys are. Find it extremely weird that we saw band arrive and then after speeches but not at all during!4 points
