Hey party people (at least I hope that's what those young folks today say), So I've been a fan for a while and have been collecting some stuff over the years and besides doing scans of artwork I also like to scan magazines and books. Especially this year I focused on a lot of Japanese mags I wanted to share since not too many people outside of Japan have seen these or people from outside of Germany have seen the German mags I also have. Since I always wanted to have the American Idiot tour book they did (actually "just" tour rehearsal photos and dates) and since it's AI's anniversary, I wanted to share HQ scans of those as well. Since I'm a perfectionist I edited the pictures to be as close as possible to the original mag or how it "should" look digitized, these took a lot of time and I wanted to share as much as possible at once with you. There's still stuff to scan and/or edit. Here's a short list of what's coming next: Warning Tour Book, Crossbeat 2001/12, Guitar Breakers 2004/10, Crossbeat 1995/11, Crossbeat 2000/08, Visions 2009/05, (maybe) Billboard 2009/05, etc. Well, here's the link: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1Hk68uJ_YwpQBby3nlLWhRAWU6_8vdAkE?usp=sharing Enjoy!23 points

That was fun. I think I'm allowed to say that Green Day played 4-5 songs for the fans in between takes. The filming was cool but those songs were the best bits. Billie threw lots of guitar picks with questions like: 'What's my favourite colour?' 'What number is on my mind right now?' 'What is my dog's name?' 'Who has the most spikes in their hair?' He didn't actually wait for anyone to answer. He just threw them at the first people he saw š He also announced 'oof, my back' twice. Mike kept telling us we were killing it. The first time they played a song just for fun, Tre refused to play more when Billie asked because he didn't want to get sweaty. The barrier was mostly filled with hired actors but some fans got onto it in the centre and I got onto it past Mike, towards the end with some of the lovely ladies I met in the queue. There's such a small gap between the barrier and stage at the Palladium that I felt almost as close as I did when I was technically closer at stadiums. I can't believe I was still jumping at the end considering the jet lagged state I'm in š If I remember more that I can share I will, but I need to sleep now.21 points

There won't be a Trump album. Billie has been vocal about not wanting to write about him if he can help it. Of course it has inspired a few songs despite him saying that, but I doubt it will be a major influence. There certainly won't be any songs about him turning out to be great. Billie has felt this way about him for much longer than most people have been aware he exists. Personally I'd rather have more lost love songs than an anti-Trump album. It won't change anyone's opinion. What is there to say about Trump that hasn't already been said by a million different people on both sides, anyway? He's what he is. We all know that whether we like him or not.17 points

I went to the Milwaukee show last night. It was fine, but the Wrigley show was better. There were at least 100, 150 maybe VIPs who got in before the GA crowd, so if you weren't VIP, it was almost impossible to make barricade. I always go for the catwalk, but since I never get decent pics of Kevin, decided to go for the main stage since I viewed this show as my "bonus" concert. Got second row behind a 18 ft tall guy, so not the best view. I was also several rows to the side of the catwalk, so not the best pics of Billie either. I was around mostly nice people, but a fight did break out behind me at one point and security also intervened with someone else who was causing problems. I did meet the blue haired girl who got onstage at Wrigley during KYE. She was behind me in line, so we became line buddies. A few pics that turned out okay- And once again, I prove myself queen of the Billie mid gum spit shot Catwalk only from this point on! I didn't even get any pics of Kevin that were all that great.17 points

Did the Chicago show last night. I got there at 1pm and there were only about 15 people there. Even by 3pm, it was only up to maybe 30-40. I was really surprised by that, but hey, good news for getting up front. The staff at Wrigley massively screwed up the wristbands. They were supposed to give yellow wristbands to people in the pit, but instead gave us pink, so when we got out to the field, the field staff wouldnāt let us in. Had to run back and get yellow ones; by this time, they figured out they were giving out the wrong wristbands, but it basically meant the people who showed up at 3pm got better spots than the ones who showed up at 7am. Luckily I still got a spot on the barricade at the end of the crosswalk on Mikeās side, which is what I wanted anyway (past couple shows Iāve been on Jasonās side, so I wanted to switch it up). Pre GD- Guitarist from the Linda Lindas tried to toss a pic into the audience and it landed on Alice Baxley. The Pumpkins drum was massively micād up; you could feel it in the floor. It was great to hear Bullet with Butterfly Wings; Iād put it right behind Smells Like Teen Spirit for the seminal songs of the 90s. There was a guy massively headbanging during the Pumpkins while wearing a Taylor Swift vest. Tre was watching the first few Pumpkins songs from the side. The show was great. Felt like I got run over by a truck by the end of the night; surprised Iām not more sore today. Got hit by at least 6 crowd surfers in the head, neck, and shoulder (after the first one, I was like, didnāt I have a ponytail in? They somehow managed to remove my ponytail holder). People around me were great and kept asking me if I was okay. It was like I was in the designated crowd surfer lane. During Minority, Billie highlighted Coley, and I think forgot to mention Mike. They almost forgot to bring out Blue to him afterwards. It was great seeing the Saviors songs; I was kind of surprised they kept Bobby Sox in after his voice issues, but he sounded great all night. After they finished Dookie, it was like, wow, and we still have a whole album to go! Iāll be seeing them next week in Milwaukee. You can tell youāre getting older when your first thought at the end of the show is āI get to do this again next week!ā and then your body says āI have to do this again next week?!ā. Few pics I took- Few more17 points

I'm not really into this huge desire to talk about/get C&V but I will add what Rob Cavallo writes in the AI 20 booklet. "So, I got together with the band and they tole me they had written an entire album's worth of material. Wow! Awesome! But there was a problem. The guys were sounding, for whatever reason, just a little bit rusty. The music was good but was it really their best? I took it to my boss (the prescient Tom Whaley . He agreed with me. He said "let's meet with the band". A few days later in the Warner Bros executive conference room, Tom says to me and the guys " we appreciate what you guys have gone through and appreciate this new album. And while we are prepared to release it, we are not prepared to give it the big push (meaning marketing $) because we don't believe this is the best work you are capable of". BOOM! He was so brutally direct! I think I was sweating profusely. Billie looked directly at me and asked "is that what you think too?" "Yes I said, nodding my affirmation. Billie said "ok, let me think about this and process it, and we'll get back to you." Two days later, we were all back in the same conference room. Billie starts "So I';ve been thinking about what you guys said last time....and I think you're right. We want to make out best record and we want you guys to like it and to give it the big push. And we are willing to do what it takes to make that happen. The question is: Tom, are you willing to do it also?" Tom said "sure, what do you need?" The rest is about Rob going to work with them Monday to Friday in Berkeley.15 points

Well, that was something. What's been posted in here basically explains it. It was very confusing ā the way we all saw them grab Mike, we thought something happened with him specifically. I could see from my seat that everyone was being carted away in golf carts and knew it was some sort of threat. I assumed it was something in the pit that escalated until I saw that the people in the pit were as still and stunned as the rest of us. Honestly, I selfishly didn't panic ā I just thought "Yep, of course. I've been relying on this show to single-handedly keep me sane and now I only get four songs." It wasn't until later that I considered that we could've been in danger, too. But they came back and didn't miss a beat, didn't miss a song. I'm grateful they worked it out and grateful they got back out there for us. It's weird, I was of the age where AI meant more to me than Dookie, but I enjoyed the Dookie set more than I thought I would. And even though I obviously knew AI was being played in full, I think I had gotten so used to hearing St. Jimmy segue into some other common setlist song that when Give Me Novacaine came on, I was somehow surprised and that made it all the more beautiful. I hope maybe I can remember more specific feelings later ā I'm still wired from the pause and making sense of being there for such a weird moment.15 points

I don't even do GDA because of Green Day anymore. I'm not on any other fansites or pages. I do it just because I value the sites and the community so much. GDA and especially GDC were my 'places' when I was growing up, in the same way Gilman was to Green Day. That probably sounds sad but it's just how it was for the people who grew up alongside the dawn of the internet, and honestly, I'm one of many people who has met real life friends through GDC so it's not like it isn't actually 'real life.' I've felt like throwing in the towel many times but I'm glad I haven't. It's very rewarding to see the sites making a comeback and to hear from others like me who are glad to see it. I won't pretend I can keep up with the other fansites when it comes to news because I can't, but for me, GDA has always been more than news anyway - it's about the community, info and fun anecdotes that aren't found anywhere else. I'll carry on doing my best for the foreseeable future āŗļø14 points

Yeah this is a big part of what helped me decide to try and do more. There are some great communities out there, but reading comments on social media is depressing. Itās hard on a platform like that where you canāt moderate like you can on a forum. There are people doing good things out there, but I like the idea of something more tangible than just a feed to scroll past.14 points

I managed to get it earlier so... Stay Young is beautiful even just for the sentiment of its title and the repeating of the line throughout choruses. Even though it's basically again the same old four chords, it has something in the melodies and the solo not typical for Green Day, in a good way. It's really melancholic and sentimental. It's a Whatshername type song, both in tempo and style. A good melodic alternative rock song. It's definitely my favorite out of the new ones. Fuck Off is basically Murder City but with cringey lyrics. Still kind of fun, but nothing compared to bitter F.O.D. or more extremely Take Back and Platypus Underdog is musically a short classic 90s style Green Day song with some Trilogy vibes. Lyrics are also pretty cringey and almost AI ish. It's the only one that has a different production and mix, especially with the way drums are mixed. Also noted that it's the only song produced by Green Day only. And just like I thought it would be, Suzy Chapstick and Father To A Son are just an acoustic/alternate mixes of the album versions. So just acoustic guitars, backing vocals, some solos and strings are in there. But they're still pretty nice. Weirdly, booklet says that all of the new songs were mixed by Chris Dugan, even though they sound like they were mixed by CLA in the same batch with the album (except the Underdog). Go figure It's interesting how, after recently listening to 21st Century Breakdown in full couple of times and reliving those lyrics, the literality of some of those new ones seem really basic and kind of lazy in a lot of ways. It's kind of hard to comprehend that it's the same band. On the other hand, they are still my absolutely favorite no1 band and it still excites me to the core when new releases are out. Green Day is my home and safety and will always be ā¤ļø btw. there's a cool collage of photos from the Saviors tour in the inside of the digipack š14 points

These are all from Billie. The American Dream Is Killing Me: 'That song is more about being a stressed-out American. Our politics are so divided and polarized right now. We had an insurrection. We have homeless people in the street. We have so many issues, and they come onto your algorithm feed at such a pace. It just stresses you out, the anxiety of being an American and how it becomes so overwhelming. I think it was easier to satirize George Bush because we didnāt have social media. It was before all the tech bros came in. Now you have these billionaires who would rather shoot a rocket into space than deal with the infrastructure we have here.' (Vulture, 2024) One Eyed Bastard: āLyrically, I was just reflecting on bad times in life. Thatās the thing about nostalgia, sometimes you think, āThat was an awful time.ā Everybodyās got that ugly place in their life where they have to deal with ugly thoughts ā it could be like revenge or whatever. Thankfully, I have an outlet in songwriting.ā (Rolling Stone, January 2024) Dilemma: 'Thatās one of my favourite songs on the record. I think it really cuts to the core of drug addiction, alcohol addiction and mental health. The first line is, "Welcome to my problems / Itās not an invitation." It almost sounds like Facebook within itself. Itās like, "Come feel sorry for me, come feel my pain." But, you know, I donāt have Facebook or Twitter, so I just do it in songs to where I think with melody it becomes more relatable, and people can interpret it in the different ways they want. It could be me just joking, but it could be dead fucking serious, too.' (Kerrang, 2024) Bobby Sox: āBobby Sox was originally about just sitting on the sofa or going to a movie with my missus. It was sort of more about our relationship, but I flipped the script a little bit with the second chorus where it goes into "do you wanna be my boyfriend?" So I sort of flipped the gender thing before on Basket Case, but this one gives it a whole new level. Sort of turns the song into a queer anthem.ā (SiriusXM, 2024) Suzie Chapstick: āSuzie Chapstick could be a song about what your friends are up to lately, you haven't seen in years, looking on Instagram... to see how other people's lives are doing, and we're all alive and doing well together, soā¦ā (SiriusXM, 2024) Strange Days Are Here to Stay: 'Thereās one line that says, "Ever since Bowie died, it hasnāt been the same." Thatās always kind of stuck with me. That was the beginning of 2016, and then it seemed like when the Starman left this Earth, all the mad men came in and started to destroy everything.' (Kerrang, 2024) Living in the '20s: 'Living In The ā20s is like we are living in The Upside Down. My country is supposed to be the United States of America but thereās no unity at all. And so, I observe and I report what I see. And strange days are here to stay.' (Kerrang, 2024) Father to a Son: 'It's heavy. I was only 22 years old when I became a dad and time has passed, and theyāve become the young men that they are now. I wanted a moment like Wake Me Up When September Ends, which is a song about my father, being a son. But the other side of the coin is me being a father to my sons and hoping that I did something good. Iām saying Iām going to ride shotgun as close to my sons as I possibly can, to try to do the best I can. And thankfully, I have a really, really, good relationship with both.' Father to a Son: 'I dedicated the song to my two sons, who are now 28 and 25 years old. I wrote Wake Me Up When September Ends about my father twenty years ago. I was 10 when he died. Then I became a father myself at an early age and simply didnāt know what I was doing, what was expected of me. I did my best and was always there as these babies became boys, these boys became young men.' I don't remember where the Father to a Son ones came from... anyone have any idea?14 points

To me it sounds like a common topic recently which is how he feels with his on again off again up and down struggle with a harmful habit. Reach for a knife, let it go, live it up, give up, itās a curse, the worst, mama raised a bomb.. itās in his nature to be a hellion but he fights against it. A couple of images I love are āuseless as a ⦠crippled ballerinaā and āwaiting on the sun like a star thatās blowing upā. Itās like another way of describing himself as a dead man walking. Like disaster has already struck but he doesnāt know it yet. He might write a lot about a short list of themes but no one captures the human condition and describes feelings in a simple yet relatable and emotional way like he does. He somehow always avoids sounding too self indulgent or self pitying. Like with Smash It Like Belushi the message is when youāre feeling this way just keep your head down keep going and rip shit up. Itās empowering š14 points

The return of GDA! Welcome back! The site has had its ups and downs over the years, but I'm glad GDA/GDC has persevered. I've been in and out of fansites throughout the years, but GDA is the only one that has stuck with me. This site and community mean so much to me. I've made friends here, gotten so much support when going through difficult times, and experienced the kindness of other fans. It still blows my mind how people here are willing to help out others and expect nothing in return. It's just fans helping out other fans. And I've received so much love, support, and advice here whenever I was struggling. I've experienced so many life events while on this site: bad breakups, losing loved ones, losing jobs, etc. But no matter how bad it got, GDC was there to help me through it. Sometimes it was venting with others. Sometimes it was just to gwak at Billie and take my mind off of things. This love and support help keep me going, especially in terms of writing. I've been writing independently for 10 years now, and it often feels like you're writing into a void. I've wanted to quit so many times, but just when I wanted to give up, I would get a comment from someone on GDC, and it'd make me smile. I felt good that at least one person took the time to read something I wrote. It inspires me to keep writing. It even helped me join the GDA team! I still remember someone on the board recommending me as a writer for the site, and it meant a lot to me. I'm filled with so much pride and joy everytime I log onto the site and see "GDA Staff" under my cursed profile picture. I remember when I first found the site, thinking the people who got to talk about Green Day all day were the coolest people in the world. I never thought that one day I would join GDA and be part of the cool kids Even though the site has been through some rough times, it's great to see the impact it has had on people. Fans still talk about the site and have good memories tied to it. I hope more folks will visit the site, whether they're new or returning users, because this truly is a special place. Long live GDA.13 points

Breaking news: Professional musicians want to make money! Thereās virtually no money in streaming, which is why physical media is pushed so hard by record labels today. Thereās a deluxe edition of most albums these days along with tons of vinyl variants for a reason. Itās a standard industry practice at this point. Anyway, Iāve been around Green Day long enough to know a lot of their b-sides are just okay. And thatās fine. Theyāre just very good at curating what goes on their main albums. Iāll never be mad at getting more Green Day than I expected.13 points

The following statement has appeared on fromt page of greenday.fm:- January 28, 2025 ā 7:15PM GREENDAY.FM IS CLOSING First of all, thank you to everyone that has visited this site over the past 6.5 years and especially those who have contributed their time and energy to help build it. Huge thank-you to Todd who was instrumental in building the audio archive and also contributing a ton of research and knowledge to all areas of the website. Due to a lack of time to properly commit to maintaining and growing this website, GreenDay.fm will permanently shut down on March 9, 2025. Starting today, there will be no further news updates or updates to any of the pages on the site. Our sister site, GreenDayLive.fm, will continue on and some features from this site will be moved there. This site originally launched way back in 1996 and died out about 6 years later in 2002. So I guess itās fitting that the resurrected version of that old website would suffer the same fate after 6 years as well. Thank you again for visiting, hope to see you all on our Discord and at GreenDayLive.fm. ā Jason This is devastating news. I can't believe this is happening. I feel so sorry for Jason who has dedicated his life to the current and previous site launched in 1996. The information on this site, a lot where you can listen to unreleased songs, demos and covers, live performances and much much more. There's also loads of stats that will be lost. Hopefully some info can be saved as suggested on sister site greendaylive.fm. I don't know if this is possible but can some of the databases be passed to GDA? Thank you so much Jason for all your hard work and efforts. I've really loved your site, and I have learnt so much more about this band thanks to you. I will miss it very much. Every happiness to you for the future.13 points

Regardless of the quality of the other nominations, The Beatles winning a Grammy in 2025 is a naff gimmick, especially when AI had to be used to lift Lennon's voice from an ancient tape. No, that's not quite the same as someone using AI to write a song, but as far as I'm concerned no art is 'legit' if AI is involved in its creation.13 points

The show was so much fun omg! My brother and I got one back from barrier behind @solongfromthestars and @Rumpelstiltskin2000 with great view between Billie and Jason! Just a "regular" setlist I think but it was great, danced the whole time and it was just awesome watching them play up close https://imgur.com/6emTrSj It was a bit dumb that they didn't have an encore because it meant the crowd chanted for one and got disappointed (especially as it took ages for the lights to come on) but we thought it was funny š. I've not seen any Coachella videos so I don't know how good the set was, but this part of the review surprised me: 'In lieu of added staging or guests (a little of friend and occasional co-performer Billie Eilish would have gone a long way), Armstrong relied on classic rock concert tricks for audience engagement.' I'm so glad Green Day don't usually bring random celebrities on stage. I know festivals are different and the Coachella crowd must be a difficult one, but Green Day are still considered one of the best live bands in the world - they don't need a celebrity appearance to engage the audience. And it's cool that they give fans the chance to have the best nights of their lives on stage, rather than giving some other musician publicity. I also don't really understand how that would improve a shit performance š12 points

So, for the last half year or so I've been struggling with kinda poor mental health, some days better, some worse, but all in all not great. Thus, when I got to visit San Francisco (and Oakland/Berkeley) recently as part of my job, I was delighted. I did a mini GD-related tour of the bay area and it cheered me up tremendously and also made me grateful for, despite everything, having been able to do have done this. I often felt like a small kid truth be told haha very nerdy I know but, especially being from Europe, it was really cool Chinatown in San Francisco Ashby/Longview house in Berkeley No explanation needed "Jesus filling out paperwork now, at the facility on East 12th Street" - (view from BART train, Oakland near Fruitvale St) Also rode past the warehouse on 7th street near West Oakland Station (Welcome To Paradise), no pic of that though, I was too slow. Oakland's Fox Theatre and The Warfield in San Francisco (guys give us the full concert man, please, I'm begging ya) this part of San Fran (Mission District) has changed a lot but it's where the scene of the guys walking in When I Come Around was filmed (at night), I also passed through Powell station, also seen in that video. It's probably my favourite Green Day music video so seeing the filming locations was very cool and a few other bits and bobs Btw there's been much talk about San Francisco's social problems at the moment and they are definitely noticeable right in the city centre (the infamous Tenderloin district and adjacent areas), but it is still a beautiful and vibrant city in my view, with a lot to offer, not least great public transport for US standards, interesting topography and a lot of variety in terms of the different neighbourhoods, plus great walkability. Needless to say I enjoyed my stay there and would love to visit again at some point.12 points

Itās interesting how there are no cross references yet to the concept story. No Whatshername reference in Radio Baghdad and no Jimmy references in Novacaine. I wonder at what point they decided to go with a concept record idea and drop these references in the various songs to tighten it up. The soft acoustic guitar intro was a much better choice for WMUWSE over drums, itās interesting to hear both because where the drums gives the song a more anxious, heart pounding feel, the guitar gives it heart and melancholy. These are just what you want in demos, those early takes where you really get the evolution of the songs. Iām curious to see what versions are on the deluxe release but at least we have these now.12 points

I love Billie standing up for their entire disocraphy when it's mentioned that people thought Green Day were "past their prime" back in the day. "They were wrong" - and then he and Tre talk about the measure of success. You sell 10 million and then 5 million looks bad. Let it be known, Green Day don't have any albums that were massive failures and here's some positive facts about their most hated albums: Uno deputed at #2 on billboard. Dos came in at #9 on billboard and got the highest average reviews of the Trilogy. Tre got generally positive review from critics, deputed at #13 at X-Kid reached #36 in the charts. and FOAM - its debuted at #4, it's their 11th top 10 album and again, and as today it's streaming numbers are over 140 Millionish. Even Green Day's lows are making millions.12 points
