  13. I've started scheduling stories on the GDA Instagram that are throwbacks to gigs played on that day however many years ago. If I'm going to all that effort, I might as well post this stuff here as well. However! I'm only focusing on gigs (not album releases or anything) and I'm very likely to forget to post here anyway, so if you remember anything that happened on a certain day years ago (or if you feel like copy/pasting from the GDA Instagram), please contribute! Even stuff like music video releases and chart positions on certain days would be interesting to look back on. So, on this day (16 April) 19 years ago (2005), Green Day played in Orlando, FL. 11 years ago (2013), they played the Greek Theatre in Berkeley. And 9 years ago (2015), they played the House of Blues in Cleveland before their Rock 'n' Roll Hall of Fame induction. Yes, I did get the year wrong on Instagram. Enjoy looking back at what our favourite band have been up to!

  14. Six years ago today (24 April 2018), The Longshot played The Wayfarer in Costa Mesa. 13 years ago (24 April 2011), the American Idiot musical ended its run on Broadway and Green Day played after the final performance. Some people have probably already read my recap on my personal blog, but I've just transferred it to GDA if you haven't read it yet. More photos: 22 years ago (24 April 2002), Green Day played in Inglewood, CA on the Pop Disaster Tour. 23 years ago (24 April 2001), they appeared on Musique Plus in Montreal to talk about Waiting. And 31 years ago (24 April 1993), Green Day played the Revolver Club in Madrid.

  15. Another pretty special one today. 14 years ago (22 April 2010), American Idiot opened on Broadway. Fun fact: this photo is of the action that inspired the name "Fuck Time." “One of the actors from the American Idiot musical, Theo Stockman, called himself the ‘King of Fuck.' Before every performance the cast got into a circle and shouted: 'One, two, three, it’s fuck time!’ So I named a song after it. We played it as the Foxboro Hot Tubs at Don Hill’s and the song should have stayed there... but then we realised we shouldn’t give It’s Fuck Time away to our alter-ego, but use it for Green Day!” – Billie Joe More photos from the opening night:

  17. Full show: From the description: Here is the first of many rare and previously uncirculated Green Day tapes from Arica Pelino's archive. Huge thanks to Arica for bringing them over and handing them off to me last month. I am going to let Arica introduce this one: "this show has only been released on audio format prior to this. This video is being released in its entirety for the first time and includes RARE after-show footage with: Lint/Tim Armstrong Marshall Stax (on stage) Damon O'Manic Joel Wing Kaz Hope Anna Armstrong Filmed by: Arica Pelino Opening Bands: Blatz, Jack Acid, Alter Ego, Grimple" Transfer by: Shayne Stacy Equipment used: Panasonic AG-1980 — Datavideo TBC1000 – Tevion USB Adapter — Virtualdub Enhanced in Adobe Premiere Elements/Neat Video (lighting/denoise)

  18. 1981 does have more streams that the other non-singles though, probably just because it's the first non-single you hear on the album and maybe the fact that it was the first song we heard for the album (live) You can look for the streams each Green Day song and album is getting here Songs - https://kworb.net/spotify/artist/7oPftvlwr6VrsViSDV7fJY_songs.html Albums - https://kworb.net/spotify/artist/7oPftvlwr6VrsViSDV7fJY_albums.html There's a lot of interesting things to take from these figures. Saviors (the album) is getting 296k daily streams now, less daily streams than AI/Dookie/Nimrod/21CB/Insomniac but still much more than the last few studio albums, though in the coming months/years, that figure will continue to fall. I think Saviors will continue to perform better than FOAM and the trilogy in terms of streaming however. Revolution Radio has a lot of total streams, being their 5th most streamed studio album, but is gaining much less streams than all their studio albums from 1994-2009. Father of All has more streams than Dos & Tré but less than Uno. I wouldn't be surprised if Dos starts gaining streams at a faster rate than FOAM at some point. Stray Heart is gaining daily streams faster than any other trilogy song, even more than Oh Love which is the hit of that era and has the most total streams. Considering Oh Love can be heard on both Uno and God's Favorite Band, this is surprising. Last Night on Earth is gaining a lot of streams, currently no. 12 in terms of daily streams, even though it was never released as a single.

  19. Sorry but the speculation should start when GD confirms a new album or being in a studio, IMO. No offense.

  20. Six years ago today (26 April 2018), The Longshot played the Redwood Bar in LA. More photos: 23 years ago (26 April 2001), Green Day performed Waiting and Platypus on the Howard Stern show. On the same day (26 April 2001), Green Day also played Waiting on the David Letterman Show. "It's great that we have a pain management doctor in the audience because every time on the show, the drummer – who is unstable – does something strange and hurts himself. The last time he was here, he leapt off the drum platform and hit the deck. We took him to the hospital. For three days, it knocked the wind out of him." – David Letterman 33 years ago (26 April 1991), Green Day drove 37 hours to play in Sioux Falls, SD. "[Adrienne] showed up in Sioux Falls, and then she just grabbed me. And she said, 'Billie Joe?' And I turned around, and I was just – I had to remember what she looked like, because it just didn't register at first. I remembered her voice from the phone. She looked at her friend and goes, 'he doesn't remember me.' I felt like the biggest tool at that second." – Billie Joe

  24. Shame about Billie! But the other two would work well on either end of a shelf/display as a pair. The one time I bought an album bundle was to get those candles and once I had them I just had to make a Green Day shrine . They're my favourite piece of GD merch I never spent a lot on merch just got all albums on CD and bought or (more often) got gifted some random things over the years

  25. I think a good idea for the Bobby Sox one would be to have, rather than Bobby Sox on the back, to have Girlfriend Boyfriend Best friend with a check box next to each one. I could see them being worn at Pride Parades.

  28. Those were some of the best times I remember keeping up with the tour thread here on GDC every night and watching Billie get back into his groove with each show. It was so sweet how nervous he was during the US leg. I always resonate the Trilogy era with those happy times. from my show during Oh Love

  32. The guy was presumptuous and incorrect saying "lol he's not getting emotional lol". Billie was cordial enough to say "it's fine" in his second comment. He doesn't need to apologise for calling out a stupid comment as stupid just because they guy apologised for making it. OMG I just watched Fancy Sauce from this and it was glorious! Really hope they'll play it on the tour

  33. Okay this kind of outraged me: “One moment, Armstrong feigns shock, eyes wide and mouth agape; the next he bares his teeth in a crazed grin; at melodramatic moments, he even sheds mock tears, as he did at the climax of “Jesus of Suburbia.” It’s a tactic that’s silly, but undeniably charming. Armstrong’s star power comes partly from his unpredictability — no one quite knows what face he’ll show next” Is there anyone that really thinks that emotion is fake?! That’s an insult to the way he is always leaving it all out on the stage. No way he’s faking that. I think he got choked up during three songs last night and it was all 100% raw emotion

  35. On this day 8 years ago (23 April 2016), Green Day and Joan Jett performed at the Tribeca Film Festival premiere of Ordinary World. More photos: 14 years ago (23 April 2010), the Foxboro Hot Tubs played at Don Hill's in NYC. I was also looking at some of those setlists the other day and laughed at them playing Fuck Time eight times at the Bowery Electric, but I'd forgotten they outdid that at Don Hill's with nine Fuck Times. More photos: 19 years ago (23 April 2005), Green Day played the Mellon Arena in Pittsburgh. More photos:

  37. Yeah this looks like what could possibly be their tour setlist this summer, dookie, some saviors, ai I could imagine they could switch some songs from show to show, and according to setlistfm it was a 2h10min show, so still 10minutes they could play longer for the european festivals Please keep fancy sauce as closing song And i know dookie and ai in full is epic, but i hope the next tour will have some more love for songs they rarely play live (trilogy songs pleeeeease)

  38. On this day (17 April) 26 years ago, Green Day played Bottom of the Hill in San Francisco. "Who's from the West Bay? I bet you people don't even know you're in the WEST Bay. Did you even know there WAS a Bay?" – Mike "How many people live in San fucking Francisco? You suck!" – Billie The Longshot played Thee Parkside in San Francisco on this day 6 years ago. A nice quote from that show: “I have so much gratitude and so much love getting to play music in front of people for so many years.” And an amusing one: “We’re gonna do this thing where we pretend to walk off and walk back on.”

  46. With every single album of the last decades, Green Day did something else than the fans expected. So it doesn't matter with which concepts we come up, they will be wrong. Let's just enjoy Saviors and be thankful that we got an album like this

  47. Yeah he just set things straight and asked people to stop talking shit, pretty reasonable. Avoided going into rant mode lol
    7 points
  48. Agree. Generally, I think it’s better to not engage at all with negative comments (and that goes for everyone, famous or not). But there are countless examples of how people spread shit on social media and others start to take it as fact. The talk of “Did he lose his voice? Will he not be able to sing on tour? Was he emotional? Why was he emotional?” is the kind of thing that can spin out of control quickly and it’s not wrong to shut that talk down.
