Rev Rad is amazing and Somewhere Now/Forever Now is the best two song combo ever

Very random but I’m so glad to see this forum is still somehow active. I’m surprise forums on the internet still exist at all 😂 I remember being here when I was in highschool, in like, 2014? I think, and using so much google translate. I can’t for the life of me remember what username I had or what email address I used, but I distinctively remember the fangirl thread lol, I was surprised that was still active as well 😂 A lot of life has happened in 10 years, I finished highschool, a masters, had 3 jobs, changed countries, came back, left again, but this summer was very hard for me, with a lot of changes, and like any other time when life was hard, I turned to Green Day for comfort. Needless to say the old Green Day obsession came back and hit full force, more than usual, because I don’t think it ever left, it just got a little quieter 😂 And I said, why the hell not, let’s make an account here and interact with the fandom for a bit, until it quiets again. Glad to see so many people still around, some usernames I even recognize haha.

I think that RevRad has one of the strongest openings of a Green Day album. Somewhere Now, Bang Bang and Revolution Radio are amazing!

I'm sorry, but if there is 5 people sitting at a table and one of them is a nazi then there's 5 nazis at that table. As @Hermione pointed out earlier, "Border Security" in practice means sending ICE gestapo squads out to rip innocent people from their families without warrants or due process, and "pro life" means forced birth. People seem to not realize how horrific this all is. Also, I find it very hard to believe people when they claim they thought Trump was only going to deport dangerous criminals because we have over a decade of racist anti-immigrant rhetoric from him at this point.

Yeah, that doesn't surprise me. I think the forums being quiet has more to do with that than with anything the band or even the admins and users of the forums are doing or not doing. Me too! I feel on Instagram (I cannot speak to TikTok becase I have never used it) all the interactions are way more superficial, you don't really get to form online friendships on there. Also, there is so much hate in those platforms, I hardly ever read comments on any post anymore. And besides, I feel every time I comment on a public account (Green Day account, news outlet, or my favorite WeRateDogs 😅), I started getting spam or follow requests from soft porn accounts. How is me commenting that a dog is cute or that I hope Green Day plays Fancy Sauce at their next show an indicator that I want to see some lady's "sexy" pictures? So that also discourages me (and I guess others) from participating in any discussion. The forums just feel like relatively safe space, where everyone is here because they love the band, so that means we also share some common values that are openly supported by the band. And here you interact with the same group of people every time so you can form actual friendships and bonds with them that can eventually extend beyond just the shared interest in Green Day.

Personally, I don't think we should be extending olive branches to Nazis but that's just me!

Np, I was very confused lol. Context on The Black Parade: I first heard the whole thing in 2015-ish. It’s one of those albums that before I heard it, “Welcome to the Black Parade” was a running joke about emo culture for me. After hearing the whole album, it’s one of the best songs ever. I don’t think the album is quite up to AI or The Wall standards, but it is an underrated all-time great. Yep, “Still Breathing” was originally written for 5 seconds of Summer. Billie Joe decided to rework it into a song for Rev Rad, and it fit perfectly. “Are you scared to death to live?”, is, imo, the best lyric in any Green Day song, full stop. I think Rev Rad is the type of lyrically and musically the type of album that really benefits from a slower closer. “Forever Now” is an amazing song, but it’s a crazy, hectic, all over the map number. Kind of like “American Eulogy” in a lot of ways. Ending the album with it would have felt kind of abrupt to me. Live, it works great when you know there’s an encore on the way. On the album, it needs that slower ballad after it.

I know for me I go through waves of being active on the forums. It's usually that I'm busy with other things or just taking a break from being online. I usually check in everyday but I may not check in with every new topic or my fave topics. The forums are definitely my favorite way to interact with other fans. I've tried other forums but they're not the same or I feel like I can't be myself there. So I'm glad GDC has stood the rest of time. Can't say the same for the blink and HIM forums I used to chat on lol

I just think chatting on the forum feels more natural, but I’m not of the TikTok generation.

It gets really quiet sometimes, of course it does, but it’s good to be able to see others are suffering through the drought too and we can commiserate with each other and if nothing else, go back to talking about Billie Joe’s hair 😂😂

I'll always stand up for Ordinary World. It's in my top 15 GD songs. Like @Tre's Busted Drumkitsaid, it's like an exhale. If they ended on Forever Now, you still have a bunch of adrenaline running through you. Ordinary World allows you to breathe while letting the album come to an end. It's a fitting end to the album.

I like Rev Rad a lot. Didn't think I would, because I felt like the Trilogy got worse by the song, and I honestly wasn't sure how BJA's very public struggles would affect the band's sound and chemistry. I'm happy I was wrong. I don't really dislike any songs on the album. I think Still Breathing and Revolution Radio should never have been split up in the track order, because they work together as well as 21 Guns and American Eulogy or WMUWSE and Homecoming do. Still Breathing has what I consider the best lyric Billie Joe has ever written, and I will defend that song to the death as vastly underappreciated by fans who can't get past the fact that BJA originally wrote a very different version of it for a pop band. Forever Now deserves a place among GD's best "album climax" songs with Homecoming and the GOAT (American Eulogy). Somewhere Now is also a criminally underrated song. I get that the band may not have wanted another "slow burn" opener like 21CB, or maybe they just didn't want to play the song over again at the end during Forever Now, but I think it would have been a perfect opener for the Rev Rad tour. I think of Rev Rad as the sort of thing that would happen if Billie Joe walked into a studio and said, "I want lyrics as raw as AI with music as polished as 21CB." Does it always work? No. There are songs that sound "sterile", or like they were trying to make something that sounds like BOBD or Letterbomb. And the elephant in the room, yes, even though I like Ordinary World, it's just stuffing an acoustic track at the end reminiscent of Good Riddance, and it serves the double purpose of using a BJA solo song from his movie to pad the album's length. It's not the best album ever, but I do think it balances out to be their best post-21CB work.

I imagine he (along with many left leaning Americans) would support US "left" parties moving further left/being closer to European left standards if that was on the table I like it. And it seems plausible since Billie seems to be a writing machine that never stops so he's gonna have to do something between albums

This must be devastating for Brazilian fans who can't afford to see them elsewhere. Really shitty of the organisers. Also, I know this is an unpopular opinion, but I'm really not impressed with the way Green Day's social media people handle cancellations outside of the US. An Instagram story? You can't even make a permanent post like you did for Hershey? I'm not saying Green Day themselves need to comment (although it would be nice and wouldn't take much effort), but the management are literally paid to make social media posts. It wouldn't be difficult to try a bit harder. Switch the comments off if you're worried about angry fans. Sadly it's obvious that they think it doesn't matter as much as a high-profile show like the Hershey one.

I cannot believe this had to be cancelled at this stage for a football game! Surely they are planned months in advance and if it had to be changed then it should not have been at the expense of a long planned concert which lots of people will have spent lots of money on. Shame! I am so sorry for everyone who was going.
