EEEEEEE!!!! y'all the meet n greet was SO fast. The guys were so nice but didn't make conversation that much bc time me thinks. Billie said "you have my dog on your shirt!" I laughed and said he should bring the longshot back, we took the picture and I was out the room. I think they brought us to the pr room so the energy in there was so chaotic. Me and my brother were cheesing when we got back to our seats. He got a fist bump from Mike! The set was so fun! same ol songs but I was in need of a concert so I enjoyed it so much.25 points

I loved their performance. To me, songs like Holiday and American Idiot say enough in their lyrics. It must have meant a lot for them to play this kind of gig in the bay area. They killed it and looked to be having fun. If people listen to Holiday and American Idiot and can’t see any political commentary, that’s their issue. Bad Bunny also approached things in a mature way. Didn’t make a message of hate, but instead of unity. Even said “God Bless America” and had the US flag first in the parade, going against people’s perceptions of him as an America-hater. I felt like they both took the high road and I appreciate that kind of maturity in an era of digs and insults that go nowhere and get nothing done.20 points

Its always like this, people make false hopes out of nothing and get hyped, just do be disappointed in the end, and then blame the origin (the band) Its not the oscars or grammys, its the nfl superbowl, getting badbunny and greenday to play at their show is surprising enough imo, and the boys took full advantage of it by performing with high rock energy (And keep in mind, this was not about greenday, it was about the mvp ceremony in the end)17 points

According to reddit this is up already for people in certain time zones. Heroes by David Bowie covered by Billie Joe featuring his son Jakob. So I assume it’s dropping everywhere Friday? https://www.reddit.com/r/greenday/s/kr2FMUIS6H17 points

Just performing in Spanish and celebrating Latino culture was huge in this climate. When he named every country in South and North America I felt that. He was great15 points

What does any of this have to do with Billie and Jakob being commissioned to record a David Bowie cover? Let’s remember the thread topic15 points

Can't believe I found one of these online over Christmas. It's one of the cool trilogy hoodies (couldn't afford one at the time)15 points

It's not even a question of potential repercussions in my opinion. What good would it have done if they had made a statement? All it would've done is generate press, upset MAGA people, attract a few new fans, and allow people who already like Green Day to pat themselves on the back. Not saying that's what the disappointed people wanted (they're overly optimistic about Green Day's influence, which isn't a bad thing because optimism takes strength in the current climate) but it's all it would've achieved. No-one would have changed their mind. It wouldn't have made anyone's lives better. We wouldn't even be having more discussions about anything that needs to be talked about - we'd just be talking about what Green Day said. That probably would've been about Trump or ICE, who are already getting the attention they deserve. There also would've been people accusing Green Day of being performative and I'd understand that too. I'd like to see Green Day using social media as well as their own shows to raise awareness of issues that aren't being talked about. That would be a lot more impactful than singing 'MAGA agenda' yet again.13 points

So… hey fellas my tickets come with a meet and greet with THEBAND. I plan on wearing that longshot shirt with Lenny on it 😛 hope I amuse Billie with that ahhhhHH13 points

I can understand if people are upset at the length of the performance, it went quickly and we always want more BUT bear in mind it was a great performance Green Day got a huge amount of publicity and nobody could be unaware of their stance and many of their lyrics are very clear they performed at a show watched by millions which is always highly controlled and causes mass hysteria in the US if anything happens off script they backed the call for supporting unity Billie wore his Spanish necklace very prominently (sorry, I forget what it’s called) they appeared mature and rational in a time of ranting petulance in the US, they definitely have the moral high ground. Honestly they did a great job.12 points

"To all the ICE agents out there, wherever you are, quit your sh*tty-ass job. Quit that shitty job you have. Because when this is over — and it will be over at some point in time — Kristi Noem, Stephen Miller, JD Vance, Donald Trump, they’re gonna drop you like a bad f*cking habit. Come on this side of the line.” - February 6th12 points

They played 16 songs, no deep cuts. Will post a full recap once I’ve slept! But it was absolutely a tune up show with a big paycheck for their Super Bowl appearance on Sunday. That said, they had good energy!12 points

My pleasure! It's going to be the weirdest vibe imaginable but I'm a true fan and will share how it shakes out once I'm back. Yes, it's definitely happening but as another poster mentioned, there's no need for publicity as it's (unfortunately) mostly a VIP-only type affair. I don't want to dox myself but I can say I'm attending as media and otherwise would have no shot at getting in.12 points

Little butthurt diaper boy couldn’t stand getting told to his face to fuck off 🤣 Another service the boys have done for this country. God’s favorite band does it again12 points

So Heroes was recorded to commemorate the upcoming 50th season of Survivor. Why am I not surprised. With the band due to open a major sporting event, not for the first time, the band seem to be the first choice to nominate an existing song or even write one for some sort of major event. The last one being the song Underdog for soundtrack for a new animal series for National Geographic. There have been 17 other songs used for various soundtracks going back to 1995, some existing, others songs written specifically for soundtrack. And this year's no different. Nice one GD. Just shows how really special you continue to be even in the mainstream environment.12 points

Here's a really old photo you don't see around. It's from an Australian magazine from when Green Day appeared at the HMV Studios in Sydney on 8 February 1996. https://www.instagram.com/p/DTYK-fCDYq7/?igsh=MW84Yzh5eTVzcGwxYg== My daughter has painstakingly been scanning all this for me this last week and deserves a medal!12 points

There is an odd angle to this of fans putting all this responsibility on Green Day to do a certain thing. Like others were saying, maybe this was a dream moment for them and they wanted to embrace it and make it a positive memory.11 points

Bad Bunny did a great job. It was a huge moment for Latino people and Puerto Rico! And I loved the bit at the end where he named different countries with a message of love.11 points

They literally called him out the other night at the pre-show concert they did.11 points

the boys have literally been speaking out against the government for the past 21 years now, at stadiums, on live TV, etc. the fact that they were even allowed to play a SLIVER of american idiot and holiday at the FUCKING SUPER BOWL is already nuts. the fact that GREEN DAY IS EVEN AT THE SUPER BOWL ALTOGETHER is nuts. who knows what type of shit NFL would've pulled off had they DID speak up? probably wasnt pretty. r/greenday are some of the most unrealistic idiots ive ever seen on earth...11 points

Confirming what I posted is what they played, 100%. It's possible the crowd didn't earn Forever Now as it was pretty tech bro-y for a Green Day show but as I said earlier, the band certainly had quality energy. BJA did rip on Spotify as a sponsor by yelling "yay Napster" and also called FanDuel "OnlyFans" so he was in high spirits haha.11 points

What a wild thing to say. Nothing proves that David Bowie ever slept with underaged girls. He specifically refused to kiss Jennifer Connelly in Labyrinth because of her age, and he had a long string of girlfriends and boyfriends and all of them were full grown adults. Predators don’t sleep with children once and then start dating adults, it’s a repetitive and recognizable pattern. And bringing up the Joey scandal is completely unnecessary, but so is comparing a 22yo kid, dating a 16yo younger kid to a full grown adult grooming a child.11 points

Not easy at all and no one is/was like Bowie, so this is a tough task. I really enjoy hearing Billie Joe give it a try and wholeheartedly appreciate getting this stuff from him ❤️ That being said... bring on more Beach Boys!!!11 points

Me, before discovering this was being released: "I swear, if one more person covers Heroes, I'm gonna rip my hair out." Also me, after learning Billie Joe and Jakob were covering it: "YES. I NEED THIS."11 points

@Dingle I have such envy for those who saw them anywhere during AI…but Milton Keynes… fabulous, lucky you. Favourite era, got to be 21CBD (anyone who visits the fangirl thread will know I just adore that era when Billie wore the stiped pants 🔥🔥🔥) and AI which I can’t choose one over the other. Going with Saviors too as it’s been a great tour , Billie is aging better than fine wine and it’s been great to see them all looking well and loving the tour.11 points

I feel we're overthinking this too much. I don't think they had to negotiate for the NFL to let them play AI and Holiday. I think NFL didn't care which songs they played, so long as they were hits that most people would recognize. With how much hype there was about it on the internet, I thought their set was gonna be longer. But given the time constraints, a medley of their hits was the only possible option. And unless I missed something, they only did Good Riddance + AI songs, disregarding other hits like Basket Case and WICA that many people would have also recognized, so they did choose to focus on some very political songs. I too am a bit disappointed by the lack of the MAGA line, but it was a medley, we didn't even get the original line of the song. Already going on stage and singing "don't wanna be an American idiot" in front of that audience is a statement. Just like Bad Bunny singing in Spanish is a statement, regardless of what the lyrics are saying (short run through what his songs were about in the spoiler below, if anyone is curious)10 points

This is an insanely ignorant take. Billie called out Trump by name in that show as he has at countless shows in recent time. Where have you been? 😂 Watch the clip, dude. https://youtube.com/shorts/NrGwAS6gqys?si=LQtwLGyaPgQegJLR10 points

There's a time and place for everything. People just demand things nowadays and feel entitled for other people's behaviour. Green Day have been extremely vocal about the issues for ever. They don't need to scream it during the Superbowl opening to prove it to anyone. They performed American Idiot ffs.10 points
-
Since someone posted the setlist, let me share what they actually played before I crash: 1. American Idiot ("not a part of a MAGA agenda") 2. Holiday ("the representative from Epstein Island has the floor") 3. Know Yr Enemy 4. Blvd. 5. One Eyed Bastard 6. Longview 7. Welcome to Paradise 8. Brain Stew 9. St. Jimmy 10. 21 Guns 11. Minority ("To everyone at ICE, quit your shitty fucking jobs") 12. Basket Case 13. When I Come Around 14. Waiting 15. Jesus of Suburbia ("From Minnesota to the Middle East") 16. Bobby Sox 17. [Encore] Good Riddance10 points

Exactly, there is so much hype. The expectations are so high that GD will never be able to meet them. And they don’t have to, in my opinion. It’s not for musicians to save the world. With their art they can only make it a bit better. Or more bearable.10 points

New vinyl for the vinyl collection and new shirt for the shirt collection:10 points

Pretty much lol Just play Holiday five times. Dedicate it to a different person each time, and give a different person the floor each time around. The homophobic slur in there can be easily replaced with other slurs each time.10 points

I really like Billie’s vocal delivery in this. Very classy and tender. Would be interested in this with Saviors vocal production instead of this “he’s far away” sound.10 points

Absolutely incredible. The chemistry between Billie and Jakob is unreal... their voices blend so perfectly. This cover is such a beautiful gift and a truly extraordinary tribute to Bowie’s legacy... 🤍 Hope he's going to play it at next Coverups show.10 points

NFL being my favourite sport with NHL, I can't wait to see this. Biggest sport in America, Green Day will get fucking mainstream and everywhere if they tell the piggy POTUS to stay quiet on stage. Would be so cool to call him and ICE.10 points
