Just now getting around to listening to all the new stuff (I'm a patient fan, I like to take my time). I thought it was interesting that more of the demos were written in first person. I always wondered if was referring to the band itself. It just seemed like such a pointed line to write at that point in their career. They were in such a vice at the time. The subgenre you helped pioneer is still popular but you need to evolve as artists and if you go back and make Dookie Pt. II it might be well received but it's an implicit admission that 'yep, these are all the tricks we have in the bag'. Especially after making such a musically expansive record as Nimrod. Warning didn't set the world on fire but they'd be damned if they'd play to type and do what's been done. That's why they've had staying power in the long term.11 points

I don’t know… I really love Ballyhoo, Belushi and Underdog. So for me the deluxe was worth it. As for the live show I so much hope for a Saviors live album plus DVD! Maybe for Christmas…?8 points

This was a fine boxset. Demos are interesting. Otis mixes are good. The live show....it was good but jeez does it need some editing. I do not want 11 minutes of Knowledge. I also don't want long pauses with faint crowd cheering where I assume the guys are doing something on stage. Watching it is fine but whatever is happening doesn't translate well for an audio recording. Some of the live songs I loved like Castaway and Blood Sex and Booze but everything else? Eh.... It really wore out its welcome. Also I compared warning 25 to the other sets and while warning 25 is solid I'm so happy for the price drop because the bonus goodies are lacking. The dookie one had so much cool random stuff that made the sticker price worth it. I'm always happy for a green day anniversary release but I agree they should take a break from it. They're starting to feel a bit undercooked (cough cough Saviors deluxe).8 points

I don’t play bass and don’t want to buy one. But watching Mike talk about it is nice…8 points

Do you know that feeling when you wake up and have the urgent need to listen to certain songs? It’s RevRad day today here!🥰 Besides I remembered that about this time two years ago I bought the tickets for the GD Berlin show of 2024. (Because I wanted to see the opening band, shame on me…😅) How could I know then what a fascinating journey would begin this way? Bit sentimental today, sorry… Have a nice Sunday, all of you!7 points

As a huge fan of a good Billie-Mike bromance moment, I can say this is true, but also that bar is not very high7 points

I think 21st Century Breakdown will be the best anniversary release…maybe we get Olivia? Or Dreamcatcher? They wrote over 40 songs and the live at fox theatre where they played the full album would be sick. High quality version of restless heart syndrome?!?! Can’t wait.7 points

The remaster sounds great, the demos are pretty standard but have some highlights. Church On Sunday demo is a big stand out for me despite not being very different from the final version. Wish the vocals on Jackass demo were louder because I really can't make out any of the different lyrics at all. I like the Otis mixes and love the idea of them overall, but I don't seem to be as hyped on these as some others have been. Macy's Day Parade is great and Waiting is good, but I can't help but feel that the feedback on the guitar detracts from Waiting in certain spots. Particularly after the long pause. Not having everything kick in altogether loses a bit of punch. Still need to dig into the live show more. Overall, a solid box set. Probably the least interesting overall (excluding Insomniac's anniversary release) and my least favorite, but again the remaster alone was worth it. Sounds phenomenal. Current ranking for anniversary box sets would probably be Nimrod, American Idiot, Dookie, Warning.7 points

I think awkward humour is just their thing and always has been lol If it's specifically about that recent interview I think the most awkward thing was the interviewer constantly complimenting them and saying how amazing they are, along with the film promotion stuff it just wasn't the most natural conversation. But in general they've always used awkward humour. They don't need to be fake and press trained6 points

It would have been an interesting addition if it was the whole album of an Otis mix instead of just the two tracks. Nice to get an album remaster nonetheless. It's great we got demos, but the b-sides (mostly) being a re-release from Shenanigans and International Superhits felt like a double dip.6 points

Glad my thread resurrected, hahah! Wow I haven't posted anything on here in a hot minute...I guess I'll give an update I have gotten three more guitars (two electric, one acoustic). One of the electrics were gifted to me, and the other was on sale at Guitar Center. The acoustic electric was a used guitar at Guitar Center, but I have to buy a new battery slot for it because it was gone when I got it . So yah, two Epiphones, one Cort. I got a new amp as well because the one I got from a pawn shop was trash. Its a fender rumble 25. Great amp . The Guitar Center near me was so fun when I went a year ago. Now the employees are trash, except for one guy who was the only one helping me. I wasn't planning on buying anything, but I started to play American Idiot on guitar, and this random guy just joined me on bass. We both started singing too, hahha. Magical. Glad there's still some cool people near me, haha .5 points

Saviors deluxe gave us five new songs at least. Had we gotten five never before heard tracks with this Warning boxset, we’d all be losing our shit over it. My favorite things to come out of these boxsets are songs like Black Eyeliner and Place inside my Head not to mention all the American Idiot goodies.5 points

In my opinion it’s allowed to be silly at any age. And why should they care. Not doing the expected / appropriate things is punk… I loved this so much:4 points

I actually looked at some music schools here in town. But then I really didn’t like the thought of having to go there every week at a fixed time. It’s so unflexible. And expensive! Then I went to YouTube, there seem to be millions of guitar lesson videos there. And in all this chaos I found two „guitar teachers“ I like, Marty and Stuart: Marty‘s lessons feel comfortable to me because he‘s so calm and reassuring. But the second one, Stuart, is simply hilarious. I could watch his videos just for the fun of it. Both have a bunch of videos on YouTube (also tutorials for GD songs, I hope I will come to them some time in the future 😅). And they have beginner courses you have to pay for (not too expensive I think) which I have bought. I try to practice every day for some time, and I really like it!🥰 Edit: Maybe I should have written all this in the guitar thread…😅 Sorry!4 points

it's probably just cuz im another gay dude.. sometimes we wish everyone else was gay 😔4 points

I don't blame you. IMO they shouldn't release another anniversary edition for some time. We've had so many in the past few years and it seems like the consensus on this one is that the added value just isn't there to justify it. Especially at the utterly absurd price points. It's starting to feel like an upsell to get a quick buck from die-hard fans and I wish they'd just lie low for a few years preparing for the next album cycle.4 points

Lights Out lives rent free in my head sometimes for some reason. It is not a favorite Green Day song of mine, but it sure if an earworm...4 points
-
I think that's the best thing because unless you happened to have seen the film and remember it really well you'd have no clue so like 99% of the audience there probably had no idea . They thrive on awkwardness lol I wish I could find the clip (I think it was only on Instagram) but one of my favourite recent awkward humour moments was in one of the red carpet interviews last year when the interviewer asked Billie if he had any advice for someone looking for love and he immediately started singing his song from when he was 5 years old "Look For Love" and then told people to google the song lmao3 points

I think they have likely had some media training, no record label would have let them get this far without it. Whether they pay a lot of attention to it, that’s different. I think they are just themselves and relish the weird interviews. Imagine how odd it would be if they suddenly became super slick spewing sound bites….yeuch!3 points
-
I've never had an issue with their interviews, but I do understand where the comment is coming from. I hope they never get any media training though, keeps it more genuine, even if a lot of the time they are just joking around to get out of giving a serious answer to a question. This was gold! I choose to believe Mike and/or Tre wrote that and Billie was reading it for the first time I especially love the "you know"3 points

At some point in the early 00s I got a bootlegged set, probably from the P2P file sharing platforms everyone used back then. The show was small if I recall - probably from the early 90s pre-Dookie. During a lull in the show when they're doing a bit of audience chat, the quiet murmuring is interrupted by a man in the crowd very loudly shouting "YOU CARPET BASTARD," to which Mike replies - and I'm paraphrasing here - "Me? I've got nothing to do with carpets. I play music" My friend at the time and I used to regularly call each other carpet bastards as a result and every now and then it'll pop into my head. Carpet bastard. That bootleg was lost and I've never heard it since. I wonder what carpet bastard guy is doing nowadays? I'm probably the only person on the planet who regularly thinks about that particular moment in time, and I wonder whether he's aware his insult that day lives rent free in my head?3 points

It's from an interview around the time of Broadway Idiot if I remember correctly. Someone is asking Billie about how he feels about the the album being made into a musical (if I remember correctly the whole scene) and he's struggling to find the words, and Mike comes to the rescue, gives him a hug and a peck on the cheek while answering the question for him. It lives rent free in my mind, but I cannot remember the source interview right now, so I'm having a hard time finding another link for it3 points

This bass looks fantastic but I don’t think I‘ll try it.😅 A few weeks ago I started with guitar and it’s challenging enough. But it’s fun and I love it!3 points

I love bass you should try it, it's such a fun instrument. I want it, but it's pretty expensive I am just now watching that video, and that bass is crisp3 points

After a long time I picked up the guitar again and I got into recording phase. I want to share some more of what I’ve recorded I remember listening to Green Day when I was 12 and being fascinated by the guitar sound/rhythm, especially Billie's style. Before I started playing guitar for real I used to do so called ,,air guitar'', immitating Billie. So by the time I grabbed a real guitar I arleady had a good sense of rhythm/ strumming in my head. (I certainly don't hold power chords like Billie, and that actually deserves a separate mention too; it's very characteristic; does anyone hold power chords like Billie ??)3 points

There will probably be a 21st CB 20th Anniversary Edition and it will be around the release of the new album or just after. I'm expecting even a stronger album than Saviors with many fresh ideas next. 😉3 points

Yes! Really loved these two demos (especially Misery), with the half-baked lyrics and Billie (I think) being like "it's the bridge" in the middle of Misery Loved it. I know everyone is obsessed with the Otis mix of Macy's Day Parade, and I love it too, but I m actually obsessed with the demo. I just love it. All the sounds towards the end give it a tropical vibe (in my brain at least 😅) that reminds me of my hometown and gives me all the feels.3 points

Agreed, and the whole k pop thing was deliberately awkward too. I think they just don’t buy in to all the nonsense at award shows etc.2 points

Once you know guitar, bass is sooo easy hahah. I see why it may seem a bit more challenging, thicker strings, etc etc haha. I started out on guitar and used Marty to learn my first Green Day song heheh. But before that I printed chord charts and it helped sooo much. Once you know chords you can play any song you look up in minutes, and not sit through a 30 minute long guitar lesson. I am glad you're liking it .2 points

The live tracks were a fun listen, even though they didn't sound like the boys were quite at the top of their game. I have a question though- there was some discussion a bunch of pages back about the version of Suffocate that was included. Were you guys referring to the Shenanigans mix vs. the one from the GR single? I can't find the posts now.2 points

This. It's the same for the Dookie anniversary. We get it, 10 minutes of chaos and noice was cool at Woodstock. But that's it. I want music, good recordings and not Longview and Basket Case for the 1769th time and half of the live album consisting of shenanigans😅 I literally cannot hear the difference between the remastered tracks and the originals. Where do I look? 😂2 points
-
Yeah, agree. It's one of my favourite songs by the band and the simple, driving rhythm section is what makes the song so great. IMO feels lacking without it.2 points
