  3. I think, especially for these festival shows, they have no problem playing just the hits. They want to put on the best show possible and they want the vast majority of the crowd to feel engaged. As much as I’d love them to play rarities night to night, it just doesn’t make sense for them to do so, hence when they play a small venue they can pull out the deep cuts more often and have it be something special. As much as I’m over seeing BOBD and others on the setlist I feel if I were there I wouldn’t cared what they played and I would only care about the fact that my favourite band is in front of me.

  4. I understand your feelings but you are not comparing like for like. Weezer were almost the opening act so the stakes for them were much lower. Green Day were headlining a massive tour for rock bands, which isn’t supposed to happen anymore, as the first tour out of the blocks after a pandemic. Nobody dared predict whether it would be a success or dismal failure, I bet they were all holding their collective breath as crowds could have stayed away, tickets sales could have plummeted. Green Day had to play a safe as houses set list for everybody.

  6. They play the hits and the hits only at these shows because they want to. They want everyone in the crowd to be singing along the whole time and to walk away with their minds being blown. They're damn good at it and they know it. There is nothing stopping them from playing deep cuts and newer material but themselves. For better or for worse. It's up to us as hardcore fans to bully them into changing things up lol.

  8. Really upset about Rudy's. The Oakland location was the last place I had dinner with my dad and we loved going to the Emeryville one, too. I had a split-second moment today when I thought to myself "He's going to be so bummed when I tell him" just like I did when the Oakland one closed. Thanks for the memories, Mike and company.

  9. As someone who listens Trilogy daily, I have to disagree. Guitar tone, drum sound and riff itself doesn't sound anything like what is on Trilogy. Due to bends it might sound something like Carpe Diem solo but it's not even close with other Trilogy songs. To no ones surprise, it wasn't real but repost(?) instead from a different account. To people who love to do these fake Green Day album previews, I'd advice on copy and pasting Fuck Time riff yet again or include a lot of claps. Those have better chance to fool some people rather than some insane bend solo that sounds way too good to be real. In terms of 1972 project, I couldn't care a less about release date. It comes out when it comes out and whatever the result is, it's worth the wait. I only have one major wish and that it's not a tryhard album that tries to be some forced rock opera with the most confusing story out there. Even though I love 21st Century Breakdown, it's very messy and confusing in terms of understanding the story (13 years later and I still have no idea what the fuck is that story even about) whereas American Idiot was very simple and easy to follow (Jimmy died today/Now I wonder how Whatsername has been). Dos! is easily my favorite album from Green Day thanks to banger songs and the easiest story out there. It also helps that Dos! wasn't tryhard at all.

  11. I think, to a certain degree, you have a point. Maybe they do get bored playing the same setlist night after night, due to the pressure of the record label. I can understand that. But also, I think that's why they spring surprise shows with AMAZING setlists (they even took requests!!!) in smaller venues like The Metro on us, so they can let loose and do what they want. Also, we know their love of all the side bands that they are in that are not necessarily tied to a major label. I think that's why they do those side bands......to just get out and HAVE FUN, with no label hounding them to sell records or sell out stadiums. Either way, I, too, hope they are happy......and I honestly think they still love what they do. ❤️

  16. My opinion. - I think 1972 will be released on or after Tre's birthday 9 Dec as he's the last one to reach 50 this year - all born in 1972

  17. So what if she is? That's getting more and more common nowadays because rent is skyrocketing and wages are stagnant. It's almost impossible to get by on your own anymore. Everyone is either forced to get a bunch of house/roommates or move back in with their parents just to survive. Don't make fun of that. I'm in the same boat and I know plenty of other people who are as well. Besides, you don't even know her living situation. Maybe she's visiting. Maybe mom's visiting her. Don't make assumptions either. Anyway I think my favorite moment from what I saw last night was when Tré ran down onto the stage to give Billie a big kiss on the cheek during JoS. That was so sweet!

  23. One thing is keeping the momentum and another factor is that they want to make sure the show is as smooth and on autopilot as possible to make sure they have the capacity to engage with the audience, run around and do all their other schtick. That’s the show most of the audience is there for, not a bunch of songs most people wouldn’t care about. And I think that’s the approach they have to all their shows, not just the festival/HM run.

  25. Oh, his hair is what I dislike the most right now. I just want to muss up the front of it. It's sticking to his head too much there. Looks more pop disaster tour than AI to me. Or like that George Clooney haircut people used to make fun of.

  26. Those are obviously programmed drums, with little or no round robin. The person who did that should work more with MIDI velocities (especially on hihat) and overall choice of sound libraries if they want it to sound realistic. Nice try though.

  27. I think we already got that, just not 100% literally.

  28. A few pages back, I came up with a good concept for 1972. What if it has characters based on real people and real events in Billie's life? Hell, maybe there would be a political song about Nixon and the Watergate scandal.

  29. Yeah, it's not like the last two arena tours had amazing setlists with any regularity. They tend to be able to fit a few more rarities in at those shows, here and there. But they haven't been a band that changes up their setlist from night to night since the run-up to the trilogy.

  30. Yeah, I really want to mess it up too. I guess it is more of a pre-AI look. I just thought that because it immediately reminded me of the 2004 Reading Festival show.

  32. Oooooops forgot about that haha We've been pretty spoilt for real teasers since then so there's not a whole lot of reason to believe any clip sans vocals/not from an official account is legit, if anything else ends up cropping up. Was only going to put so much work in to have fun with you guys this was just demo of something else I was working on with planned real drums later -- but you're totally right

  33. The only vocals we have so far are from the first teaser, “Wooooaaah wooooaaaah!!!” And the latest, “Hoo hoo-ooh YEAH!!!”

  35. Any actual news lately about the new album? I’m getting used to 1972 speculation dragging on like it’s never going to happen. 187 pages and almost a year? I’m speculating it’ll drop and surprise us all probably after these next few tour dates.

  36. Wtf did they expect from a festival set? If anything that's where it makes the most sense to play their standard safe setlist.

  38. Well, there weren't any surprises. My playlist on the run to the venue were my favorites from the Uno/Dos/Tre trilogy, as I was wishfully hoping for just one such selection. However, longtime local GD fans know they seem to inexplicably play it even safer during large hometown shows. There wasn't even a perfunctory, "What do you guys want to hear?" Still, I used to think any year I saw GD was a good year, and I think that's still true. Billie's voice is still incredible. Consider the following notes I took your annotated listening/watching guide for the archived livestream. There were a few lyric ad libs. 8:10pm Bohemian Rhapsody starts 8:19pm on stage 01. American Idiot: Billie comes out in a leather vest with "1972" on the back and a white flower pinned on his front right. 02. Holiday: "The representative of SCOTUS now has the floor!" 03. Know Your Enemy: with the usual audience member vocal near the end 04. Boulevard of Broken Dreams: After asking for everyone to turn on their phone flashlight, "It's about the only thing these phones are good for." 05. Longview: "My Tinder says to get a job." 😀 06. Welcome to Paradise 07. Hitchin' a Ride (preceded by Iron Man by Black Sabbath tease): After the usual dueling crowd cheer bit, "You're all a bunch of suckers, not the ones from Oakland." 08. Rock and Roll All Nite (KISS cover) 09. Brain Stew 10. St. Jimmy: BJA on vocal only, not on guitar, takes flower previously pinned on his vest and tosses it into the crowd. 11. When I Come Around: BJA shouting out surrounding areas at the end, "San Francisco... East Bay... Sacramento... ahhh, fucking, Santa Cruz, I guess, I don't know" 12. Waiting: I know it isn't numerically true, but it felt like the "rarest" song we got. 13. 21 Guns 14. Minority: Band introductions had some jokes for names like Ricky Schroder, Henry Winkler, and (for Mike Dirnt) David Duchovny. 15. Knowledge (Operation Ivy cover) (preceded by Tre drum solo): The "We" in "We get taught to decide" was a note BJA impressively held for 23 seconds. A 10-year-old kid named Montgomery did a great job on guest guitar. He was so short that BJA spent a bit of time trying to shorten the guitar strap for him. 16. Basket Case: This song had a fumbled start as BJA broke a string on his guitar after the first verse but played out the rest of the song. I wonder if the broken string led them to scratch "She". 17. King for a Day (preceded by "Lights" by Journey snippet, followed by a tease of "Careless Whisper" by George Michael): BJA briefly wears a plastic crown taken from the audience or planned as a stage prop. In the end, "Just wait 'til all them kids get a load of me". 18. Shout (The Isley Brothers cover) 19. Wake Me Up When September Ends 20. Jesus of Suburbia: In Part III: I Don't Care, the more recent "from Ukraine to the Middle East". I presume it was a joke, but Billie introduced "Tre Cool on the bass" leading into Part V: Tales of Another Broken Home. During the closing "I don't feel any shame" verse, Tre came up to give Billie a kiss. Billie then joked, "Tales from another broken... I thought that was my mother... " (in the same melody). 😂 21. Good Riddance (Time of Your Life): BJA began with a story of how in 1991 they tried to play in Dolores Park (across town in SF) on a day with a bunch of punk bands, but the cops shut it down before they played last. "They didn't shut this one down though," he smirks as he starts GR. The final "I hope you had the time of your life" ends in a low growl I haven't heard BJA do before. 9:57pm off stage Thanks for reading, Frank
