Random fact: Mike post nothing about the new song9 points

Don't forget, this is in the movie (which I had never heard of previously, but seems to fit what I see is the subject) so possibly has been written specifically for it and may well have no bearing at all on what Billie is writing about currently.8 points

Stop Drop and Roll was also heavily satirical and a serious commentary on the dangers of party life. None of those songs glorify partying and that lifestyle.7 points

Yeah, that's my only real complaint about the song. Luckily for me, I have always loved the band for the music, not the lyrics. If the lyrics are great in the songs, it's just the cherry on top for me. That being said, it's not the case for most people and I wish the band would go back to writing about topics that actually matter like they did in their 30s. Eventually, the band is going to need to leave a legacy, and it'll be a bit sad if the latter half of it is just middle aged men singing songs about partying like teenagers.7 points

Stomping instead of clapping. Thank goodness.6 points

I dig it! I would love a proper Green Day album that digs into their 60s influences. Mash up These Paper Bullets with Foxboro Hot Tubs and it could be pretty great.6 points

I hate how much I want to listen to this song đ6 points

This song deserves a proper music video and a live version.6 points

Still can't get it out of my head. Well done, Green Day! â€ïžđ5 points

I think it's been awhile since there has been a true "fangirl confession" on here, so I'll be the sacrificial lamb, so to speak. I was trying to write something down about how I feel tonight, as happens occasionally but I have never bothered to log it, and found out that 2012 me had already nailed it on the head. I must say, it's a bit embarrassing how little has changed in my life in nearly 10 years. I'll spoiler it since it's a tad long, but any commiseration/advice is welcome. BTW this is from my personal journal, but I love you all and feel comfortable enough to share it, so here it goes. Oh, also I should mention this was before I discovered GDC and developed relationships with people on here. The "Green Day site" I refer to is the long dead Idiot Club. ...And I was crying while writing this, but I'm also a little bit tipsy (it's my weekend) so take that as you will. đ4 points

Couldn't have said it better myself. Lyrically this song could have been so much more if it were a tad longer and was written about something that mattered. Hell, I'd go as far as saying it could have been one of the best singles they ever put out, but it is what it is. I remember in the 21CB era, before the trilogy was even a thought, Billie spoke about where the band wanted to go next and mentioned an album that was more acoustic but had all the green day power behind it. I hated the idea at the time being the stupid kid that I was, but looking back now I can't help but imagine how cool that actually could have been, and I kind of wish I was in the alternate universe where that actually got released. Rock operas can still be non-political when talking about things that matter. The Black Parade for example wasnt really political at all and had some really deep, meaningful, honest and personal songs that hold up just as well today as they did the day the album dropped.4 points

AHHHH! I was so pumped when I heard the news and I'm sooooo happy the song is a bop! Strong foxies vibes for sure! I think it's a pretty straightforward good time song and that's all it needs to be. I'm definitely picking up on the trilogy/FOAM vibes so this is definitely a winner. Can't tell if I like more than Pollyanna or not but Bravo Green Day đ4 points

I love the song!! It's been stuck in my head all day3 points

Sorry I should have been more clear. I get used to using abbreviations with fans so much that I completely forget that other people may not even be in the same headspace as me when I am writing đ Where's that YouTube guy that was so incredibly pissed off about how FOAM ruined his life or some shit. He will probably be happy to tell you how much he hates this song đ3 points

Green Day was my first favourite band. They got me into Rock, made me pick up the guitar and dive into music theory. I was obsessed, watched Jaded in Chicago 1994 everyday after school. The Trilogy were the first records whose releases I experienced live as a fan. Over the time, I discovered new bands, got into different genres etc. Their newer projects always got my attention, but I never really felt the same spark. Sometime last year I finally realised / admitted to myself, that I can't say I really like any project as a whole after Breakdown. There were very good songs, but every project was (harshly said) a disappointment to me. But this song right here, it's so good. Longshot felt like a warm up (and thus disappointing), but Holy Toledo feels complete. It has this confidence, this 'we know we're good bitch' vibe older releases had to me. They never dropped this attitude, it's a key factor why their live performances still rock. But they finally managed to put it back into their music. I don't remember being so happy about a new song in a long time.3 points

I think you capture well what a lot of us feel and I agree we donât know the real Billie Joe but I think when you have been in the public eye as long as he has, more of the real person slips out than they ever intend. Yes, he can be guarded at times, I think when being asked about song writing he often doesnât give us the in depth response we want but the song is the point and he possibly feels (I would totally feel this) that he has already bared his soul in the song, what more does he need to say? I think we clearly know he is a good man, kind, loyal, romantic, dependable - quite a lot of old fashioned sounding words but strengths all the same. I think heâs beautiful, I could go from his hair to his feet telling you all his beautiful features and have spent a ridiculous amount of time looking at him and I know I spend way too much time thinking about him! For me, he will always be unreachable so I make him pretty well perfect in my head which I think must be a little tough for the real people in my life so I need to remember that at times but, hey, heâs kept me warm in many a night hubby was awayđ2 points

Valid opinion. No one is hating on you. I'm still processing and need to have a few more listens before I form a definitive view on it. First impression is I think it's neat and I personally like the Foxies vibes.2 points

I think you're reading too much into it. It's a Billie mid-life crisis song lyrically.2 points

I think it's ok for these standalone singles. These are intended to just be fun tracks, not too serious lyrically or anything like that & nothing too ambitious musically. I'd wait to see what they have in store for the next album before getting too concerned. The important thing is the quality of these standalone tracks are getting better (Holy Toledo > Pollyanna > HCTS) so I'm not concerned right now2 points

This! Really like the song and how much they packed into it in such a short time. As someone who grew up in Toledo, Ohio...I feel validated by this song. (Even though, "Holy Toledo!" is probably a reference to Oakland A's broadcaster Bill King)2 points

To me, itâs kind of a mix. I can hear a bit of RevRad, the Trilogy, and 21CB1 point

Itâs likely an all-day thing, and theyâll play last, which will make it really difficult to get to the front row if you donât get there in the beginning, camp out on the barrier and have a bladder of steel!1 point

I've never been to an actual music festival before like this. I mean I count HellaMega as a "music festival" but this seems different. I bought a General Admission ticket to the festival. What time do you guys think Green Day is playing? Does my GA ticket mean I can be in the pit? I wanna plan on getting first row in the pit for GD, I'm wondering what time I should arrive? GD are really the only band I wanna see at the festival, but I'll probably stay for the band that plays before them. Just wanna be sure I get a good front spot in the pitđ„ș1 point

To me the music and tempo reminds me of stray heart. However the lyrics remind me of FOMF. And that's okay. My only gripe with that album was it was just too short. Adding these three tracks or four more tracks would have definitely had me liking it more so.1 point

Played the song for Brandon. His first comment: What the fuck is it with these razorblades?1 point
