    Saviors - Album Discussion

They kinda brought the early speculation on themselves when they started teasing 1972 in December 2021 with the clip of an early take of Look Ma, No Brains. And all those teasers implied that release was imminent. I wonder if the plan was always going to be January 2024

History & Technical Info on Blue (Including Replicas & Backups)

Chiming in on this a year later as I've just ordered the Blue body for my replica. I've had many discussions with other players and some luthiers/techs about this over the years. Doing some research on this myself, I also found a Fernandes catalog prior to this one, 1981: https://www.dropbox.com/s/i6w61lfyv8si3ut/1981 Fernandes Catalog %26 Price list Vol.2 v1.pdf?e=1&dl=0 It appears that at a certain point it was officially referred to just as "Blue". I don't think Fernandes was particular about the colors, less so than flying under the radar until Fender caught on to what they were doing. That being said, the main thing to look at is how either color ages overtime. Daphne ages to more of a green, while Sonic goes grey with age. Billie's Blue has definitely aged of the green persuasion looking at photos in more recent times. Another factor to consider as well is unfortunately for the historians, Daphne and Sonic blue have never been consistently produced over the years. Fender and all the big companies just make the paint batches, then say 'that's sonic' and 'thats Daphne' at various points in time. Based on how the Fernandes catalogs are laid out, they took the same approach. Truly a strange phenomenon, lol. I also feel it adds a bit of fun to the lore for the replica makers as we all perceive colors differently as people. I went with Daphne Blue for my build, someone else may pick Sonic because it's what they see. I'm sure a few of you might've read this already, but GreenDayFM talked to Billie and Mike's teacher George Cole in 2021. Naturally, Blue got brought up in the conversation and is overall a really cool conversation: https://greenday.fm/news/george-cole-reflects-on-teaching-green-day-his-old-blue-guitar/

Wait wtf?! How was 2017 SEVEN years ago? I literally had to pull out the calculator to see if you were right, lol. Unbelievable. 😄 (Also, don't think I am dumb because I can't subtract 2024-2017 in my head, I was just joking lol)

Two things: if you haven’t seen all the videos from that GM performance, you need to see this and also, Billie wrote some wild stuff as The Rev, I love it! 😂❤️

    Green Day Q&A Thread

This will always be very wild to me. The fact that Billie Joe went to sing these ridiculous lyrics to Avicii's song in 2014 is just so random. I don't know why Avicii never finished this track and how did Billie Joe exactly get involved, but maybe some day we'll find out.

But when the Tubbies hit the scene, its gonna be called "A Lotta Rock". That's what I'm talkin 'bout.. We wanna send some love out to my brohams Mommies Friend and those freaky sugar city sex monkeys by the name of Mystic Knights of the Cobra.. And to all of those ready to see the Tubbies... Get all dressed up, come get down, wave your freak flag with the Foxboro Hot Tubs! Sting!!!!" — The Rev on MySpace More photos: 19 years ago (2005), Green Day played in Edmonton, Canada on the American Idiot Tour. 22 years ago (2002), they played Raleigh, NC on the Pop Disaster Tour. 26 years ago (1998), they played Grand Rapids, MI on the Nimrod Tour. 30 years ago (1994), they played in Dortmund, Germany on the Dookie Tour.

New American Idiot documentary coming soon!

But why wouldn't the song be from pre-American Idiot? It' was already on the track list to the American Idiot B-sides disc John Roecker posted. So it was obviously supposed to be mastered just like songs such as Lights Out and Shoplifter -- which obviously are very real.

The latest Green Day item you bought

I very rarely buy band stuff these days, but couldn't resist these photos from the Brixton and Milton Keynes shows on the American Idiot Tour. I'm a photography nerd (and Green Day photo nerd) despite my claims that doing photography for a living has made me hate it. Glad to support other British photographers too. Oh, and of course I printed some of my own photos for myself when I did the giveaway.
  18. I recently realized that Billie Joe has restricted my Instagram profile! I can comment on any of his posts, but only I can see my comment (it is hidden from everyone else), and and I can't tag him anywhere anymore 😕 . I swear I have never commented inappropriately and I have never disturbed him in private, except for responding to some stories, always in a friendly and respectful manner! Has anyone else noticed being in the same situation? I only realized it yesterday (a friend couldn't see my comment, so I did some tests). After researching, I found out that this happens when a user restricts a profile.

    Punk Bunny Coffee---Coming Soon!

I hate to tell you this but OG Gen X punks are in the late 50’s now and will be turning 60 next year. We still aspire to be edgy and this brand is an aspirational concept for people who want to feel like they’re living the rock and roll lifestyle whatever that means. “Drink the coffee the band drinks on the road” is aspirational. Younger people can’t afford this coffee if anything it’s targeting an older demographic Millennial and Gen X Compare that to Oakland Coffee which wasn’t aspirational. Do people aspire to live in Oakland? Is Oakland known for its coffee? No and no. It’s like selling Cleveland coffee or Detroit coffee. Local appeal only.

    Punk Bunny Coffee---Coming Soon!

Agreed. Oakland Coffee was generic enough for anyone to try it. My sister bought it without even knowing it was connected to Green Day. What random 60 year old guy is going to try something called Punk Bunny coffee?

It's just that I'm tired of Timmy. We have a Tim's every 5 miles in Québec. Their coffee taste like water, their foods are atrocious. Can't stand them anymore.

    Punk Bunny Coffee---Coming Soon!

Yeah and it's lame because GD fans know it's called the drunk bunny not the punk bunny. And it's known for being covered in filth and dancing while intoxicated so not sure why they wanna associate it with a fresh cup of coffee . Must've got some marketing advice to rebrand I guess but it's pretty gimmicky and Oakland Coffee sounded much classier/more legitimate. But I don't even drink coffee so I'll be ignoring it.

    Punk Bunny Coffee---Coming Soon!

I’m wondering if the company was struggling financially being so local. Suppliers of compostable packaging had to be expensive, plus the cost of using a third party roaster and they had extremely limited distribution and brand awareness. Unless you were a Green Day fan and knew it was their company or had some connection to Oakland there was no draw. They weren’t growing. Coffee is a competitive space and people are brand loyal. At first they even modestly kept the Green Day connection to Oakland Coffee very low key on the packaging and marketing but I think eventually they realized they had to lean in to that and use it if they wanted to sell it. But their customer base was still pretty finite. Now with this company they’ve gone all in on what’s needed to build a brand. Partnership with Keurig for packaging, sales and distribution, venture capital and investors, merging with a roasting company, a national brand identity, Green Day front and center on the packaging, eye catching and colorful, something I might actually see on store shelves outside of California. I hope it does well for them it’s not an easy business but at least this time they’re taking it much more seriously and trying to actually grow a company.
