They played AI. They played Holiday. They even played BOBD, which also can be read as a sign of how bad your mentality can become when your country is broken. They did what they always do. Using their voice on our behalf and telling what's the truth. They didn't need to prove anything. They have always done that. For 30 years. Fucking love this band. Great performance.

I can understand if people are upset at the length of the performance, it went quickly and we always want more BUT bear in mind it was a great performance Green Day got a huge amount of publicity and nobody could be unaware of their stance and many of their lyrics are very clear they performed at a show watched by millions which is always highly controlled and causes mass hysteria in the US if anything happens off script they backed the call for supporting unity Billie wore his Spanish necklace very prominently (sorry, I forget what it’s called) they appeared mature and rational in a time of ranting petulance in the US, they definitely have the moral high ground. Honestly they did a great job.

Will the viewing figures be available for the Opening Ceremony portion of the show or will they not isolate it like that?

I saw him on his phone (lol) during the half-time show on whatever package Channel 5 (UK) were airing - the official NBC one, I presume.. they aired a couple other celebs at the same time - Jessica Alba, can't remember who else, sorry!
-
"Information age of hysteria, It's calling out to idiot America" - that line sung into the silence of that big stadium hit on a completely different level. I think they have made their message pretty much clear. It is in their lyrics, it always has been.

It was sooo good from a musical standpoint, cannot argue with that🤩

I just got up (after five hours sleep 😭) and rewatched their performance. And aside from many people being disappointed, I think from a musical standpoint they were perfect. Great show!😍

Green Day!

Yeah, I think it's clear now that they wanted both of them because of the reaction their names get.

I don't think any of us can imagine the contracts they had to sign to be able to perform today. We have no idea what sort of penalties or fines they would have been slapped with had they said anything. I've read Bad Bunny was strictly prohibited from anything political in the halftime show. Of course Green Day would have similar restrictions, and I'm also sure they wished they could say something. I think the NFL booking them was political without outright saying it, and Holiday and AI are both political protest songs, so... I think we got what we could have gotten.
-
I went back through the stream I was watching to see if I could find it without any luck. Where did you watch?
-
Bad Bunny was strictly prohibited from any political statements during his performance. I expect he and Green Day both had contracts with severe penalties/fines they had to sign in order to perform. Sadly. He was prohibited from doing so. I expect Green Day was as well.

Yes! Overall great gig for both artists. But why don’t they ever show my boy Jason when he’s ripping those solos and riffs!?

It would appear with the 32nd anniversary of Dookie just behind us, Billie Joe and Marshall are about to drop a big surprise! Go to the second slide and zoom in on the top left corner. https://www.instagram.com/p/DUhBrmdik2u/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link&igsh=NTc4MTIwNjQ2YQ==- 1 reply

I loved their performance. To me, songs like Holiday and American Idiot say enough in their lyrics. It must have meant a lot for them to play this kind of gig in the bay area. They killed it and looked to be having fun. If people listen to Holiday and American Idiot and can’t see any political commentary, that’s their issue. Bad Bunny also approached things in a mature way. Didn’t make a message of hate, but instead of unity. Even said “God Bless America” and had the US flag first in the parade, going against people’s perceptions of him as an America-hater. I felt like they both took the high road and I appreciate that kind of maturity in an era of digs and insults that go nowhere and get nothing done.

I didn't even notice that. It makes no sense for them to have a new logo right now though?

How does Green Day change the way you listen to music?
hyStєяiA replied to Andrew Nguyen's topic in Green Day Chat
Before I knew Green Day I didn't really listen to musica and I didn't like anything. When I got into them everything changed. I listed to American Idiot on repeat for a year, then got into their other stuuf. Eventually I got into more emo and punk stuff so they basically changed my entire music life and I def woud not be who I am now without them -
Bad Bunny did a great job. It was a huge moment for Latino people and Puerto Rico! And I loved the bit at the end where he named different countries with a message of love.
