I think if they had played the halftime show, it would given them more time to do more with it politically. Plus, the beginning is more about the pageantry of it. It was honoring past and current players. It was a little odd they didn’t at least do the maga agenda part for american idiot. But still at this point, no one’s being convinced politically one way or the other by a performance. It could’ve been seen as milking the situation and asking for even more personal attention.

It was either "ice is a racist" or "trump is a racist" from what im seeing

Think of it from a practicality standpoint. You wouldn't expect an employee to start cursing out their boss when the risk of getting fired is all but certain, so why would you expect Green Day to curse out the administration if the chance they'd get their time cut off was all but certain? I'm not saying I didn't want to see the band call out the Trump Administration, but I get why they didn't. -

Am I crazy or was Kendrick Lamar’s performance last year very political? Lol -

Someone texted me they thought they heard "One nation where Trump controls the media" but that was just wishful thinking on their end. It's amazing how much publicity the censored "mindfuck America" line is getting. -

A lot of people are twitter are saying they heard “trump is a racist” anyone else hear that? -
I think this article has our answer in it "All Super Bowl performers are required to sign a contract in which they agree to abide by the league’s standards or face a sizable fine." I'd guess that's why they didn't get to say anything too political in it

NFL is huge and powerful as fuck. I think there was a negotiation: Green Day got to play AI and Holiday and NFL got them not to say or show something overly political besides the songs themselves -

Do you think they would be for singing the songs as is? I mean, sure at the end of the Green Day got to be on a big stage (though I don’t think this endeared them to anyone and it seems pretty the opposite with now the normies that I know who were excited for them were like “that was weird, why were the songs cut like that?” but if I was Green Day would’ve pushed back on that if the fines were truly that bad for saying redneck agenda. And if Bad Bunny ends up doing something political then that will be make Green Day look even weaker imo - Yesterday

My bet is that the fines were astronomical -
It’s the Super Bowl…they said mindfuck America…and played American Idiot with a bunch of NFL Super Bowl MVP’s on stage jumping up and done to it that’s punk in of itself!! They said fuck…they did a melody…what do people want them to do?!?! It’s watched by millions…they didn’t divide or say anything maybe they were looking for unity either way they sounded great they played holiday and AI to open the Super Bowl which is wild! Wish the played TADIKM and or When I Come Around or Basket Case instead of Blvd but I get it it’s their biggest song but opening up the Super Bowl isn’t the time to take attention away from the event itself watch by everyone kids adults families and people of all sides. Also even if they did say something it would have been bleeped. Plus maybe they will play the halftime show soon now eventually…maybe just maybe they come out with bad bunny for a bit never know?! But they fact the opened the Super Bowl played AI and holiday and said mImdfuck America is wild unto itself. People who are disappointed need to calm down it’s entertainment and a huge thing to do. They stilL chose to end with AI which again is fascinating. Can’t please everyone

Who would book Green Day and be like “no American Idiot” lol. That’s just stupid. Somehow they managed to take the teeth out Holiday and American Idiot chopping up the verses. -

the song choice (minus Good Riddance) is 100% pissing people off though

What will be next for them? As far as i know there is literally nothing official planned for the future ? No appearances ?

No, I think most of us are kind of stunned that he didn't say anything. I'm not angered by it, just shocked. A bit nonplussed at what kept him from saying something. -
My friends were on their breaks when I came in and I hyped them up mentioning the possibility of "MAGA agenda" so I felt like I made things worse because they were disappointed 😂 I was a little bummed they didn't do anything to piss anyone off, but let's not forgot that they were special enough to have millions of eyeballs on them for the biggest media event of the year. I'm just happy to see that (and I hope it means the NFL will keep them in mind for the big show in future years)!
