I agree with you . Since they said they are slowing down a bit for a while I'm not expecting anything big at the moment.

Green Day will open the Super Bowl 2026
Rumpelstiltskin2000 replied to Mollyluna's topic in Green Day Chat
I have to confess I've not kept up with the thread but I just wanted to say how excited I was to hear Billie scream "Welcome to the Bay! NFL 60!" I'm not from there but how cool is that for him and the guys coming from playing shitty venues feeling like there was possibly no hope to opening the Super Bowl on home soil. Absolutely amazing. I was so proud that was my band (figuratively of course ) -
I bet Green Day still has ambitions of playing the half time show at some point even if it is unlikely. If that is the case they have to respect the wishes of the organisers at an event like this. You play by their rules or you don't get the opportunity again.

When I Come Around should be at a billion already that song was the biggest off of dookie chart wise and crossover wise. I assume 21 Guns and Brainstew will be next after When I Come Around.
-
Makes me think about how Billie used to play football and originally wanted to do that. Imagine a world where he was in the Superbowl and some dude from the NFL was the frontman of Green Day. Haha I like Green Day so much that I almost want to watch football now. Almost.

Good Riddance will hit 1 Billion streams on Valentines Day or so. When I Come Around will be the next one to hit 1 Billion, but we won't see that happen for many moons. Here we are. In a world where Basketcase, American Idiot, Boulevard of Broken Dreams, Wake Me Up When September Ends and Good Riddance are the song that define Green Day, at least to the world at large. How does that make you feel?

People complaining are asinine! Fines would be in the millionsā¦people forget the Janet Jackson thing that started all of that. She was not helped by that at all. Also the Super Bowl doesnāt have to be about politics and statements people and families of all ages and backgrounds watch itās one of the few things that bring people togetherā¦.if they went off and just protested off script their mics would be shut down, and it would be cut. Also itās not the time and place to make it about you. Itās fair to say playing the songs they played was good enoughā¦of course he was bleeped he said fuck I wonder if that might get him a fine. You guys sound like Gilman street in the 90ās these guys are not JUST a political bandā¦cant they also have fun and enjoy the moment?!?! They donāt owe us anything. They picked meaningful songs, sounded great, got a bunch of press and good reviewsā¦.like what do you want them to do?!?! Get I. Trouble and face serious fines just to make you happy?!?! Let them be they donāt owe us anything and itās the Super Bowl. Relax. They kicked ass!

I feel like this shouldn't be your expectations on what punk rock is. As i mentioned before punk stemmed from suppression of all kinds. And just because green day are a bunch of sheltered rich guys their message should've been sent out to you in many ways. Being censored playing a song obviously about censorship, the setlist, although feeling like "sellouts". Even the contract itself speaks for itself if you look at it a different way. The fact that they were even out there was punk rock. You've heard Holiday and American Idiot so much you're basically conditioned to think they say nothing when the most political parts are removed for some other reason. No. The songs that way are still political enough, they're still saying something, and that needs to be acknowledged. It doesn't even sound like a big deal that Billie said "Mind-fuck America", but that was probably the limit to what they could say. Being punk is to speak, not to be able.

These have been on my mind a lot š„°

But see, thatās the point Iām trying to make. He does that all the time. And sometimes he does more. Maybe it just seems more impactful to you because you are not familiar with his music and performance antics, but for someone not familiar with Green Day, what Green Day did was just as cool. I was telling my colleagues today that Green Day significantly tone down their message to appease the NFL, I told them about how they didnāt do the āMAGA agendaā lyric change, that they didnāt do the lyric at all, and how that was dissapointing, and they were like āyeah yeah whatever THEY WERE SO COOL FOR SINGING SAYING MINDFUCK AMERICA THE NFL HAD TO CENSOR THEM!!!ā I mean ā¦

One of my friends is a Bad Bunny fan and encouraged me to listen to the Debi Tirar Mas Fotos album ahead of the Super Bowl ensuring me that it wouldn't be only reggeaton (I've danced to the stuff as much as any other Venezuelan, but I don't get the concept of listening to it as I'd listen to other styles of music), and I can tell you, the opening song (NuevaYol, one of the Super Bowl ones) is great, there are other "good ones" sprinkled in there that also incorporate salsa and other Caribbean rhythms, but then from Turista and until the end of the album the tone changes a lot, the lyrics move away from standard reggaeton lyrics, towards these lyrics about Puerto Rico and Boriqua culture (which I'd say also extends to all the countries around the Caribbean sea as we all have similar sounds, culture, flavors, etc.), and that diaspora yearning for the land and community left behind, and the music heavily incorporates a lot of salsa and Caribbean sounds. It's really good. I recommend you to give that full album a try if you liked some of the songs from the half time show (most of the songs from NuevaYol onward were from that album, as far as I could recall). Also, regarding the performance itself: the kid sleeping in the chairs during the wedding party. I've never felt my childhood experiences so seen and validated The whole mise en scene was really great, it felt like the Caribbean. And I did tear up a bit at the end with the "god bless America" with all the countries and then going into the chorus of Debi Tirar Mas Fotos š„¹ Going back to Green Day: I actually really enjoyed this performed live š Thanks for sharing it! I had never seen it,

just rewatched the performance for the first time since yesterday, and the nfl upload on youtube sounds even better than what was aired on (german) tv yesterday! i also recognized that EVERYONE at the stage had sunglasses on (not just billie mike tre, but everyone) i get that they might need them because of the sun especially at yesterdays performance in the bay area, but for me it always feels less personal if band members wear sunglasses during their gigs, and you can barely see their eyes

The way I see it the fact that Bad Bunny performed the show during this time when people, specifically Latino people, are being snatched by ICE, is what makes his performance so significant. He wanted to represent Puerto Rico and he did. And I am speaking as someone who is part Puerto Rican. The point of his show was we cannot be ignored, we won't be silenced, we are human. Plus his big message of love over hate is the most important. He did a great job. I don't listen to his music but there were some certified bops in there I need to add to my rotation. I've been reading all the thoughts about Green Day's performance and while I do wish they threw in some direct jabs to maga or ICE, I'm not surprised it didn't happen. This is a huge event and if they went off script, they'd get fined. It happened with MIA who flipped off the camera during Madonna's set. It caused an outage and a massive fine. And it was a blink and you miss it moment. I'm sure organizers are well aware of where green Day stands and probably had some stipulations for them. Either way I'm always thrilled to see the boys. It was a great performance. Hell, I'm happy they did American Idiot because that songs still shakes conservative folks to their core. And I'm not sure why people are shocked that they got censored....it's the FCC....that's what they do. Who knows maybe Green Day wants to do the half time show some day so they didn't want to jeopardize their chance. I don't really care. I'm just happy I got to see my favorite band at a huge event and they kicked butt. Any performance that gets the masses talking about them again is amazing. Side note: my friend said he overheard a 12 year old and his dad question who green day was. But when they started playing the kid said oh I know this song! I like it! Green Day still resonating with new fans ā£ļø

This has probably already been said but the performance was also most likely pre-recorded. Maybe not Billie's vocals but the medley of songs was probably worked out with the NFL and the music live was just a backing track. At an event this huge, the artists really don't have a lot of freedom.
-
I would be so excited if they did that! However, it's also worth noting that all their social media still have the Saviors logo.
-
I would bet on either nothing more than a touch up before the Super Bowl, or a Saviors tour album/DVD release at most.
-
Maybe⦠Or we really get a single, in between eras
-
I was thinking that as well. Weird timing for a new logo. Could be they just wanted something new for the super bowl event?
-
Weāve been waiting for that release all the time⦠But wouldnāt it make more sense to use the Saviors logo for the Saviors tour release?
