One of my friends is a Bad Bunny fan and encouraged me to listen to the Debi Tirar Mas Fotos album ahead of the Super Bowl ensuring me that it wouldn't be only reggeaton (I've danced to the stuff as much as any other Venezuelan, but I don't get the concept of listening to it as I'd listen to other styles of music), and I can tell you, the opening song (NuevaYol, one of the Super Bowl ones) is great, there are other "good ones" sprinkled in there that also incorporate salsa and other Caribbean rhythms, but then from Turista and until the end of the album the tone changes a lot, the lyrics move away from standard reggaeton lyrics, towards these lyrics about Puerto Rico and Boriqua culture (which I'd say also extends to all the countries around the Caribbean sea as we all have similar sounds, culture, flavors, etc.), and that diaspora yearning for the land and community left behind, and the music heavily incorporates a lot of salsa and Caribbean sounds. It's really good. I recommend you to give that full album a try if you liked some of the songs from the half time show (most of the songs from NuevaYol onward were from that album, as far as I could recall). Also, regarding the performance itself: the kid sleeping in the chairs during the wedding party. I've never felt my childhood experiences so seen and validated The whole mise en scene was really great, it felt like the Caribbean. And I did tear up a bit at the end with the "god bless America" with all the countries and then going into the chorus of Debi Tirar Mas Fotos š„¹ Going back to Green Day: I actually really enjoyed this performed live š Thanks for sharing it! I had never seen it,

just rewatched the performance for the first time since yesterday, and the nfl upload on youtube sounds even better than what was aired on (german) tv yesterday! i also recognized that EVERYONE at the stage had sunglasses on (not just billie mike tre, but everyone) i get that they might need them because of the sun especially at yesterdays performance in the bay area, but for me it always feels less personal if band members wear sunglasses during their gigs, and you can barely see their eyes

The way I see it the fact that Bad Bunny performed the show during this time when people, specifically Latino people, are being snatched by ICE, is what makes his performance so significant. He wanted to represent Puerto Rico and he did. And I am speaking as someone who is part Puerto Rican. The point of his show was we cannot be ignored, we won't be silenced, we are human. Plus his big message of love over hate is the most important. He did a great job. I don't listen to his music but there were some certified bops in there I need to add to my rotation. I've been reading all the thoughts about Green Day's performance and while I do wish they threw in some direct jabs to maga or ICE, I'm not surprised it didn't happen. This is a huge event and if they went off script, they'd get fined. It happened with MIA who flipped off the camera during Madonna's set. It caused an outage and a massive fine. And it was a blink and you miss it moment. I'm sure organizers are well aware of where green Day stands and probably had some stipulations for them. Either way I'm always thrilled to see the boys. It was a great performance. Hell, I'm happy they did American Idiot because that songs still shakes conservative folks to their core. And I'm not sure why people are shocked that they got censored....it's the FCC....that's what they do. Who knows maybe Green Day wants to do the half time show some day so they didn't want to jeopardize their chance. I don't really care. I'm just happy I got to see my favorite band at a huge event and they kicked butt. Any performance that gets the masses talking about them again is amazing. Side note: my friend said he overheard a 12 year old and his dad question who green day was. But when they started playing the kid said oh I know this song! I like it! Green Day still resonating with new fans ā£ļø

This has probably already been said but the performance was also most likely pre-recorded. Maybe not Billie's vocals but the medley of songs was probably worked out with the NFL and the music live was just a backing track. At an event this huge, the artists really don't have a lot of freedom.
-
I would be so excited if they did that! However, it's also worth noting that all their social media still have the Saviors logo.
-
I would bet on either nothing more than a touch up before the Super Bowl, or a Saviors tour album/DVD release at most.
-
Maybe⦠Or we really get a single, in between eras
-
I was thinking that as well. Weird timing for a new logo. Could be they just wanted something new for the super bowl event?
-
Weāve been waiting for that release all the time⦠But wouldnāt it make more sense to use the Saviors logo for the Saviors tour release?
-
I really want a live album/movie/doc! Hope they will use their current momentum to announce it. š¤š»
-
Yes, please!!!š
-
New single coming soon?

I just really liked the way he proudly celebrated Latin culture and diversity and acknowledged all the Latin American countries as "American". Worked a lot better than singing protest songs where the currently relevant parts of them are censored I think wearing the pendant is significant, I like that he did that

Green Day will open the Super Bowl 2026

Would've been interesting if Trump had actually been there in attendance, if that would've changed things in anyway. -
I agree with @solongfromthestars, I think even if they had gone up there and just given a political rant for 6 minutes, nothing would have changed, except that we would be patting ourselves in the back for how anti-Trump/anti-ICE our favorite band is. Much less would anything happen because he sings "I'm not a part of the MAGA agenda". I don't see the incomplete songs as self-censorship @Hermione, I think they just tried to make a medley out of some of their most famous songs, that musically made sense, that would allow people to recognize the songs, and that highlighted the power of each song. (And I don't think choosing Holiday over Basket Case for instance, was an unintentional choice). It's not easy to pack a lot in under 5 minutes, to do it right, and to make it sound great. And I think we know how much more political the songs could have been if they had been played in their entirety, because we know those songs by heart and know what was left out. But if you forget about that for a second you realize that what was sung already packs a huge political message. Just like the mere fact that Green Day, with its well documented criticism of Trump and Republicans that came before him, singing on that stage is a political statement. I also don't see how Bad Bunny's set was more powerful? I think his set was great, but he had more time, budget, and staging. But his show was also a medley, none of the songs were sung in their entirety, the lyrics were the original lyrics and the rhythms were the ones from the original songs, a lot of the stage decorations were mimicking his album cover or music videos. He couldn't have sung anything in English because he doesn't have any songs in English. So there was nothing there that we hadn't heard or seen before. So what's the special political statement there? The only thing he said that I thought was quite powerful and that is not straight out of one of his songs (and most American folks seem to have missed it because they missed the keyword in Spanish) was when he said "god bless America" and started mentioning a bunch of countries, he actually said "god bless American, whether it is ("sea" in Spanish) Chile, Argentina...." and went off to list every single country in the whole continent. That was nice to see, since the US has basically appropriated "America" just for themselves. I think perhaps you feel Bad Bunny's set was way more political because you are not as familiar with his music, so having a salsa band playing or these type of things might seem like something extraordinary he hadn't done before? If that is the case, then for people not familiar with Green Day, hearing "don't wanna be an American Idiot" in the super bowl stage might have seemed just as punk. On the other hand, I also don't think that they played it safe not to draw attention from Bad Bunny. I just think they wanted to pack as much power in 5 minutes as they could, end of story. Bad Bunny is the biggest artist in the world right now, and has been a few times before in the last 6 years or so. I don't think there's a lot Green Day could have done that would have deflected the attention from Bad Bunny. As to "why bother if they're not gonna say anything": Because they are musicians. I guess playing at the Super Bowl, and so close to home, must have been super exciting opportunity for them, beyond how much money they would get or what political message they could send. Would someone here not take their dream job just because they cannot wear a "fuck ICE" shirt to work? So yes, maybe it was just to tick a career box, but what's wrong with that? If they were not career driven half of us would probably never heard of them. Probably only @Dingle and some bay area folks would know them

Green Day will open the Super Bowl 2026

You're not paranoid. This country is so fucked up. I wouldnāt even be surprised if theyād signed a contract saying theyāre not allowed to say this or that, otherwise thereās a sniper ready. -
I still wish Billie had at least slapped a MN sticker on his guitar. Way to say something without saying it. He's worn the religious pendant a long time, so that's nothing special. As for what making a statement does, yeah, it doesn't change anyone's mind, but it makes people feel supported.
-
This! I didnāt want to write that before because I feared it might sound paranoid. But deep inside I was worried that something terrible could happen. Well, Iām inclined to worry too much.š But still.. And to be honest, if they really had pissed off all those MAGAs I would worry now that some madman might go after Billie or the band or their families.

Off topic, but I really hope Brian sues the shit out of Trump for using Who Wants to Live Forever. Imagine THE Brian May having a conversation with Trump. It would look like Magnus Carlsen trying to play chess with a pigeon.
-
I was actually pretty worried about our boys from Green Day too. Like Brian May recently said, the USA have become a very dangerous place for live shows these days š

At least it's good to see Green Day going up in the chart. American Idiot is back at #186 wow. A song from 2004. The Superbowl really help them. I hope something is brewing for them. Bad Bunny deleted everything on his instagram right after his performance. That's what he do when a new album is coming soon. Let's hope Green Day have something for us soon š -

Yeah, but Bad Bunny was also the halftime performer and had sets and more time. I do think there would've been more "statements" if Green Day had a proper time slot and was the halftime performance. -

I think sometimes weāre so deep in the weeds of fandom ā and AI has been out and widely acclaimed for so long ā that we forget these songs were fairly controversial when they debuted. My parents wouldnāt buy me the album at first (I was 13). I went to a conservative Catholic school and I remember some people saying they were āanti-American British punk.ā So it is kind of funny to hear that these songs arenāt a political performance now. -
Nah. His mic was muted twice for a split second during the performance, but he didnāt have time to say anything in that split second. They did censor the āMindfuck Americaā I loved his performance even though Iām not a big fan of his music, but how was the statement more real?
