Saviors (édition de luxe) - Out May 23rd !!
Dingle replied to GreenDayJunkie86's topic in Green Day Chat
I respect and agree with you but I'm a tad unsure with the word 'obligation'. Imho I've always felt that Billie Joe's songwriting has always been inspired. What's in his head, what HE wants to convey, never what WE want to hear. What the band decide to release, whether the lyrics make sense or not, is their choice. They're not out to please us. FOAM is a prime example, unpopular maybe, but that's what the band wanted to release. Billie Joe said he wanted to experiment with other styles of music. -

These songs were not to bad for being b-sides, neither to good for a new album, so a Deluxe edition for them is reasonable These songs were not to bad for being b-sides, neither to good for a new album, so a Deluxe edition for them is reasonable -

Music video for One Eyed Bastard

This was just like the Bang Bang video where they robbed a bank instead of living out the real potential for making a badass music video with a dark undertone. Really don't get this OEB video at all. Love the song, though. -

Hmmm only like Ballyhoo really. The rest are a but uninspired. “Fuck off”is a bit cringey and try hard. “Stay Young” reminds me too much of ‘Whatshername’ As B-sides they are fine, i can see why they didn’t make the album. But Ballyhoo is great. -

This was really anticlimatic, I must admit. However, if it's true that these songs were made during the tour last year I really understand why the "lack of effort" may bre present in these songs. I was really hoping that the acoustic versions was "new", and not just the original recording minus the rest of the instruments. Ballyhoo is easily my favorite. -

Tbh I've barely returned to any of their music/lyric videos since RevRad. The lyric videos from RevRad were cool and I still think a lot of their music videos from the 1994-2016 period are awesome but I just don't watch them anymore. Their new videos just don't do much for me personally. -

A friend of mine can't go anymore so is selling a Calling All Saviors VIP ticket for each night. I can vouch for him. If you're interested let me know and I'll put you in touch. -

I don't feel like it lives up to the song itself, which I think it much more energetic than the video felt. But it's fine.

After having heard it about twenty times, I deeply fell in love with Underdog. „Life is too short to be normal!“😃 And those guitars…!🥰 -

I think it can be both. I think critique is absolutely fair, and no one should just blindly go along with anything without any criticism or investigation. But I have also seen a lot of people in this fandom who seem to just enjoy being angry and finding fault, to the point of personally attacking the band members and other fans. It's one thing to critique someone's work; it's quite another to just be a miserable person who hates everything. -

I’m so used to watching their live performances of OEB that hearing the original, much slower version of it is strange at this point. The music video is fine, but I agree with those saying the narrative feels a bit bare/incomplete. They had a lot of excellent music videos for this album and this one just wasn’t quite on that level. -

Confused by the point of the video? Not sure what the message is…still wished they did a video for coma City as at the end of corvette summer a welcome to coma City sign was seen. Or 1981 as that was shown as graffiti in TADIKM or Susie chapstick or father to a son as every time that was played it was always professionally recorded still hoping for a live dvd 📀 or something of them playing Saviors in full. Which they chose stronger songs for their last two video corvette summer and OEB are not the best ones -

I think you’re conflating critiques with negativity. As many issues as I personally have with the band’s material since RevRad, there’s still a lot to like when you look through that lens. In other words, someone can admit a song is bad on its own merit but still enjoy it for what it is (me with almost the entirety of Dos 😅) -

Yeah, I think you are right. I think they probably wrote a bunch of songs for 1972, and few made it to Saviors but most got scrapped and now we are getting them this way. -

I actually had that exact thought. What if these and some of the songs from Saviors were supposed to be the original album, as I can't really imagine most of these songs on the main album. Same with Fever and aren't One Eyed Bastard and Corvette Summer slightly older? Those 3 would fit with these songs better. I have always liked One Eyed Bastard ever since the leak, I like it more than about half of the songs. Gotta watch the video now. -

I already posted this video in the Saviors deluxe edition thread, but I wanted to put it here too becuase we need to talk about what a babe Billie is in this video. Like seriously, how does he keep getting more babelicious by the day? -

I wonder if maybe some of these songs were from the scrapped 1972 project? Like these got tossed aside when they decided to go in the direction that ultimately became Saviors? Also, I don't think anyone has posted this new video we just got for One Eyed Bastard? I still love this song and now I love this video. -

Also these songs don't sound like Savious much. It's almost like a half new album a little bit. I wouldn't be surprised if some of them are a bit older like perhaps Underdog from around The Longshot era. -

Wouldn't necessarily say this about r/greenday. Green Day fans like to complain about everything, and I have found that to be true in that sub as well. I love Green Day and I love this fan base, but we have a tendency to be negative about everything: the band, their music, each other, etc. Compare r/greenday against a place like r/falloutboy, and there is a noticeable difference in vibes. Having said all of that, I wish we got a little more out of this deluxe edition, but I still like most of the extra songs. I can see why they didn't make the original album though, becuase the original version of Saviors is a masterpiece as is. -

Stay Young sounds interesting, because despite the little American Idiot vibe, it doesn't sound that much like Green Day. It's like if GD had released C&V and released an alternative rock record in 05 with bunch of sad rock ballads.. -

I feel the same way about this. In all honesty, one could maybe sympathize with these folks in 2016, but after everything we have been through since, it's pretty hard to have sympathy for anyone who is still supporting Trump now. I just love it whenever Billie takes on current events and really busts out the attitude. I think he did a great job with that on Saviors and it is great to see even more of it in these bonus tracks. -
Not sure the new video really adds anything but I like to see them too. Agree with @pacejunkie punk that the guy was a paedophile or abuser. Loved Billie’s shirt, another one with lots of text like his one last weekend.

Oh I definitely don’t blindly praise everything, and I’m not against discussion, I guess I’m just not massively negative and don’t feel the need to discuss if i dislike something in the same way a lot of people do. I’d rather spend my energy on stuff i like and I can’t be the only one who thinks on here that more often than not people are just moaning cause they can haha
