The Coverups - Live tonight 12/11/25 in the West Bay Area
jengd replied to A Worry Rock's topic in Green Day Chat
I saw some posts saying it was a private party and none of us saw anything about it beforehand so I wouldn’t beat yourself up about it! Billie usually posts about these shows so just keep an eye out. -
We have 100s of CDs which we loaded onto a pc and then iPods (yes, I know but they were brilliant in so many ways) but iTunes/Apple music has become such a nightmare that last year we switched to streaming. I really hate how Spotify etc treat artists but what is the alternative? We still have some iPods and hubby has been looking into going back to an old version of iTunes but it’s a pain. I am torn between the convenience of streaming versus physical media. Physical media will always be better to me but the bulk can become huge. As @Dingle said, nothing beats the whole experience of buying that album, looking at the sleeve, reading the notes but goodness it’s easier to move a smart phone around!

Keep working on it though, seems like you could achieve it 😉

I do both, but it is more convenient to listen to streamed music. I have a lot of CDs. Yes, I listen to them a lot, and if there is a nationwide blackout and no electricity, I still have a CD player and batteries. . For vinyls, yes I have a record player, but it is just more of a collecters thing. I only buy records if its an anniversary album or a cool print, otherwise i could just buy the CD for less or stream it. I believe it supports the band more or the record label more to buy CD's, and who wouldn't want to support their favorite bands

thank you and you're welcome! this might become my job. professional fangirl feeder...

i actually listen to them... i like to listen to them on cd/vinyl before i stream them unless i genuinely cant find it anywhere. i don't know what it is but it gives me a better feeling. i also really like playing my records, since usually i listen to music on my headphones, plus i like speeding things uo and down... its cool, maybe i should be a dj... anyways, i do stream my music a lot though. i unfortunately dont have a lot of records and most of my cds i love, however im missing a ton like insomniac, the trilogy, warning, etc, both on vinyl and cd...

Billie dressed up with the Cup Noodles costume while singing St. Jimmy (Brasilia, 2010) Also, in this show, there was an argentinian girl dressed all in green (would you call it a onesie, maybe?), face, arms and hair all painted in green as well. And it was hot as fuck... that Green paint must've itched like hell -

I download the CDs onto the computer and listen to them that way. My record player has needed replacing for a long time so I can't play the vinyls I collect currently

Today's technology allows me to download all GD stuff in MP3 onto my moby (cell) all safely stored in a cloud, in preference to streaming. And that's really cool. But, imho, the output quality on mobile phones just ain't the same as vinyl. The sound quality of vinyl is something else, there's no comparison, again imho. So, out and about it's headphones on with my moby. But at home, it's vinyl time, speakers on full blast, jump up and down and blow my fuckin' head off. Awesome. Also, maybe it's me, but there's a sorta affinity when buying a vinyl record like a photo, a snapshot in time. Back in December '91, after seeing GD live for the first time, I couldn't wait to get hold of my copy of Kerplunk from my local underground (literally) record store. The feeling of queuing up to collect my copy from the guy behind the counter. My whole body is shaking with excitement. But first, the inspection. The guy carefully takes the record out of it's sleeve making sure not to touch the record surface. Shows me each side of record. But wait, there's a mark there, is that a scratch. Fuck that, another copy please, it must be perfect. Leave the store with my copy in shiny plastic bag. My personal vinyl copy that would be a part of me and change my life for ever. Body, soul and spirit. Both the music and the lyrics. More valuable than a bar of gold. It's scratched to fuck now, cover totally trashed.(Got a new copy though). And still brings back, not only the thrill of an amazing new sound at the time, but what was going on in my life at the time. And this feeling repeated itself every time I bought each new GD record, in vinyl of course.

Today is the 34th anniversary of Kerplunk. I love this record. And I love „Words I might have ate“, and I‘ve just found the following video: https://www.instagram.com/reel/DSQcxLIiI-x/?igsh=MThsbmc0MzdibDBlcQ== Billie sounds amazing, and Tre singing is so cool (so it’s Tre Cool😜). Love it!

I collect vinyls, and in the evening I sometimes put them on and that feels cosy somehow and a bit like a celebration of the music. Apart from that I use Spotify. And in the car we‘ve got CDs.
