Mar Posted June 23, 2013 Posted June 23, 2013 The Killers played a huge gig at Wembley Stadium tonight and had a new song that mentioned the guys: "Green Day I said some shit, but that was the old me." The song was about all of the other bands that sold out/had huge shows at Wembley. NOT an insult to the band, but an apology for B.Flo's past remarks. 1:47: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3CoWr0jvxnM

Was he still kind of taking a jab at GD with the bird-flipping image, or was that just to reference "the old me"?
MaraGreenDay Posted June 23, 2013 Posted June 23, 2013 Wait, do The Killers dislike Green Day? Well, Brandon Flowers said this: http://www.nme.com/news/the-killers/24702
Mar Posted June 23, 2013 Author Posted June 23, 2013 That video as a whole gave me chills. Was he still kind of taking a jab at GD with the bird-flipping image, or was that just to reference "the old me"? I'm 99 percent sure it's "the old me;" it's a 2005 photo (always one of my favorites ) and he's admitted that his shit-talking days were pretty much him just trying to project an image of himself and the band that he felt he had to project to get people talking. Between fatherhood, the death of his mother and diminishing popularity in America after Hot Fuss, he calmed down. And Mike said that when he went to a restaurant Brandon was at a couple years ago maybe, Brandon paid for his meal as a kind of truce (Billie was a little more indifferent about him). As a stan of GD and the Killers, it was a very dark time, 2005-06.
MaraGreenDay Posted June 23, 2013 Posted June 23, 2013 wow Brandon actually makes a good point But this pleases me, cause I hate The Killers already, and now I can hate them for even more reasons I know, i don't like them either
The Forgotten Posted June 23, 2013 Posted June 23, 2013 I know, i don't like them either "are we human, or are we dancers?" soooooo deep.
MaraGreenDay Posted June 23, 2013 Posted June 23, 2013 "are we human, or are we dancers?" soooooo deep. Hahaha i know, omg i thought i was the only one
Red Lights Flash Posted June 23, 2013 Posted June 23, 2013 It's funny how the song where he mentions Green Day, is full of something that sounds like "Hey-oh"!
Fuzz Posted June 23, 2013 Posted June 23, 2013 Wait, do The Killers dislike Green Day? Well it's pretty clear by that simple line that he's saying, no, not anymore.
J&TheNight Posted June 23, 2013 Posted June 23, 2013 "are we human, or are we dancers?" soooooo deep. Dancer* Its a song that discusses if we are ourselves for ourselves. Dancers follow a choreographed routine, and the song is about going through your entire life wondering if it's what you want, or if you're just a puppet on a string, not unlike a dancer. Next time you knock a line, learn what it is. Yeah, pretty deep if you asked me. Brandon is an incredible lyricist that never ceases to surprise me with his words. I'm saying this as a huge Green Day and Killers fan, but he might be a better lyricist than BJA. Or rather, he's genius in an entirely different way. They blow me away. On the topic at hand, I'm really glad he cleared this up. It's always bothered me that my 2 favorite groups were at odds with each other, albeit it only bothered me slightly.
musso_kn Posted June 23, 2013 Posted June 23, 2013 "are we human, or are we dancers?" soooooo deep. Or my personal favourite: "somebody told me, that you had a boyfriend, that looked like a girlfriend..." Pfft...
Pieces of Truth Posted June 23, 2013 Posted June 23, 2013 Well, Brandon Flowers said this: http://www.nme.com/news/the-killers/24702 “I just thought it was really cheap," he explained. "To go to a place like England or Germany and sing that song – those kids aren’t taking it the same way that he meant it. And he [billie Joe Armstrong] knew it.” Well now I'm offended so I'd say we're even
Blond-O-Sonic Shimmer Trap Posted June 23, 2013 Posted June 23, 2013 Ah well, time heals all wounds and all that. I'm completely on Brandon's side for the original argument anyway, I've seen Green Day three times and every time I felt awkward about singing American Idiot when they played it.
Karol Oliveira Posted June 23, 2013 Posted June 23, 2013 Nice! Does anyone have the lyrics to this song?
Florence Posted June 23, 2013 Posted June 23, 2013 Sounds like a sad attempt to get some GD fans to buy their CDs again. You know, fans that were still mad about his anti-GD rant. I don't care. I don't like the Killers anyway.
Red Lights Flash Posted June 23, 2013 Posted June 23, 2013 I'm completely on Brandon's side for the original argument anyway, I've seen Green Day three times and every time I felt awkward about singing American Idiot when they played it. It's not awkward when you think of the song's context in its time. You don't have to be from the US to be able to relate to the song - besides, the international popularity of the US wasn't exactly at its peak during the Bush era either. Timing is everything. It was the right song at the right time.
EmmaCharlatan&Saints Posted June 23, 2013 Posted June 23, 2013 "are we human, or are we dancers?" soooooo deep. yeah and Fuck Time has really deep lyrics too
The Forgotten Posted June 23, 2013 Posted June 23, 2013 yeah and Fuck Time has really deep lyrics too You're comparing apples and oranges my friend. Fuck Time is intentionally stupid.
Joey Posted June 23, 2013 Posted June 23, 2013 You're comparing apples and oranges my friend. Fuck Time is intentionally stupid. Is that better? Or is it much much worse?
Sarcasm Posted June 23, 2013 Posted June 23, 2013 As far as I remember, it was Flowers who stood for the shit talking.
That Dude Posted June 23, 2013 Posted June 23, 2013 I like some of their music, but their new album is horrible.
Tubbie Head Posted June 23, 2013 Posted June 23, 2013 This made me laugh a bit! (why is the tongue smiley always changing btw?)
The Forgotten Posted June 23, 2013 Posted June 23, 2013 Is that better? Or is it much much worse? It's neither really... Green Day have had an intentionally stupid song in almost all their albums, which is fine as long as it's clear that it's a joke. They're not trying to sound contemporary or w/e The Killers think they are.
