greendaytone Posted December 2, 2011 Posted December 2, 2011 Hi all, I'll have the pleasure of interviewing Mr. Larry Livermore for GDA around the Xmas holidays. We'll be mostly talking about his upcoming compilation album "The Thing That Ate Larry Livermore" and soon to be published book "Spy Rock Memories" - but i'm sure we'll have time for a few questions about Green Day as well, particularly things we might not have heard before. If you've got something you'd like to ask Larry, leave your question here, and we'll see what we can do!
Hermione Posted December 2, 2011 Posted December 2, 2011 Brilliant! I'll have to think of something good to ask.
Daughter.of.Rage.and.Love Posted December 2, 2011 Posted December 2, 2011 Awesome! I'll think of something good to ask Excited to hear about the Spy Rock Memories book, I've been following it since the second or third part.
Bastard of 1967 Posted December 2, 2011 Posted December 2, 2011 If you've got something you'd like to ask Larry, leave your question here, and we'll see what we can do! This builds on a lot of what Larry has written about in his Spy Rock Memories blog so far and his occasional tweets -- let me toss out this very open-ended question and see where it takes us: "Knowing what you know now, what do you think you might have done differently with your personal life or your career, and why?" That's a question I ask myself about my own choices every now and then and I would love to hear Larry's answer. You're so lucky to be able to do this interview, Tony -- from what I've gathered from making his acquaintance through Twitter, Larry seems to be a brilliant, talented, wise, and fascinating person who just happens to also have played a very key role in Green Day's early career. Have a blast interviewing him!

fiercecircus Posted December 2, 2011 Posted December 2, 2011 I'm not sure how much he can say legally, or without hurting too many feelings, but ask him about the downfall of Lookout Records. Ask him his opinion/thoughts of how they collapsed after Green Day pulled their catalog. It's a touchy subject, i'm sure, and maybe he's not at liberty to talk about much. But it's interesting and sad and all. And a lot of people lashed out at GD over it, like OMG ALL THEY WANT IS MONEY!!! but also, they were funding a lot of shit records and a label that wasn't paying their bands and friends who legitmately NEEDED the money... I can't blame them for being pissed about it and finally pulling the plug. (also ask him if he'll ever come to one of my shows in NY. I'll comp him *teehee*. Actually i'm mostly kidding. I've talked to him via twitter before so when it's time, i'm just going to message (read: pester) him directly...)
koolkev Posted December 2, 2011 Posted December 2, 2011 w-w-w-w-wait??? AWESOOOME! So hyped to see this? And Spy Rock Memories is getting published as a book, not just an online blog? (Those weren't Q's for him )
BJA TC MD Posted December 3, 2011 Posted December 3, 2011 What was your favourite thing about working with Green Day in the pre-Dookie years?
Sweet Children89 Posted December 3, 2011 Posted December 3, 2011 My question : Is it right that tre cool was playing in your band called the lockouts ?
captain peroxide Posted December 3, 2011 Posted December 3, 2011 My question : Is it right that tre cool was playing in your band called the lockouts ? That's pretty well established, yes. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Lookouts
GDM Posted December 4, 2011 Posted December 4, 2011 Ask him why he never brought his dogs down with him to the city once he really began to leave Spy Rock. It's a strange question, but I wondered that when I read it in on his blog.
jtdscape Posted December 5, 2011 Posted December 5, 2011 wait, is larry still in touch with the band? Yeah, he is still friends with them.
DoodleBob Posted December 5, 2011 Posted December 5, 2011 Maybe: What was something about Green Day that caught your eye? Something that made them stand out from other bands? (Has that already been asked? I'm not sure. )
Abbey. Posted December 5, 2011 Posted December 5, 2011 What was the genesis of the new comp? From Larry's tweets he suggested the idea sprung from BJA. Was BJA excited by all the new music his son was bringing home from their time on the road and said hey Larry, do a mixtape? Larry once blogged about the reasons why smaller independent label bands do not open up for Green Day on tour. It made total sense from a business/showbiz perspective. But how about getting some of these TTTALL bands to open for Green Day for some of their smaller shows they seem to be doing. In particular, Dear Landlord!
jaj Posted December 5, 2011 Posted December 5, 2011 I have got a question - Who was the soundboard engineer at 924 Gilman St.? The same person for every show? Were all shows possibly soundboard recorded? Do you possess any Green Day soundboard recordings or filmed footage? Thanks
Bastard of 1967 Posted December 5, 2011 Posted December 5, 2011 If you've got something you'd like to ask Larry, leave your question here, and we'll see what we can do! Tony - One more for you that I don't think has been asked anywhere yet -- Can you comment on your thoughts or reactions after Green Day was banned from playing at 924 Gilman? Were you still close with the band at that time, and how did this affect your relationship with them, with the club, or with Tim Yohannan at the time? Are there any life lessons learned from the experience you wish to share?
greendaytone Posted December 5, 2011 Author Posted December 5, 2011 Cool. Some good questions here. I wonder if Larry is preparing. Getting all these down!
pasalaska Posted December 5, 2011 Posted December 5, 2011 I'm curious to know with all his never-ending travels, what his favourite place(s) in the world is(are) and why, and along with that are there any places that he'd never go back to. oh and also how he remembers everyone and everything. It's sorta creepy in a good way.
captain peroxide Posted December 5, 2011 Posted December 5, 2011 oh and also how he remembers everyone and everything. It's sorta creepy in a good way. Yeah, this. I spoke to him a while back and he was remembering stuff from the brief time he was with us in New York that I'd completely forgotten. Uncanny shit, man.
kerplunkfan80 Posted December 5, 2011 Posted December 5, 2011 What an honor to be able to interview Larry. He's really a good man. I like the question on what made the band stand out more than any other band during that time. I'm sure the band was charismatic and ambitious but I've always wanted to know the details. Maybe also what Larry would have done if he was in Green Days's shoes when signing the contract with a major label.
Guest Honey Emerald Posted December 6, 2011 Posted December 6, 2011 Do you have a video copy of Billie Joe Armstrong performing the poem about his palm in the 1990s?
jillyy Posted December 6, 2011 Posted December 6, 2011 the questions don't have to be specifically related to GD and their history do they?...since i'm a huge rancid and operation ivy fan i'd like to hear his opinion of op ivy and what it was like recording and working with them, if he has any random stories or something from back in the day. we've all heard stories about his meeting/recording with GD but I never really heard many specifics about op ivy and with the Lookouts Record label and stuff. oh and also what he thinks of them breaking up so quickly.
