Jaymee!! Posted June 11, 2011 Posted June 11, 2011 A year ago, a fair amount of GDCers went to at least 1 or 2 of the epic outdoor shows that Green Day played in Europe (the most notable being Wembley Stadium). This is probably going to be a difficult month for those of us who attended any of the shows, but instead of reminiscing on how much we miss it, I thought it would be nice for everyone to share their stories about the experiences they had at any of the shows they went to, or something that happened just while being at one of the numerous meet-ups that happened or while traveling etc. etc. Anything that you want to share, share it. For example, today I went to London for the first time with Becki, and also saw Wembley Stadium for the first time from the train and from the Eye. I believe today they also played a show in Munich, so please share! I'm excited to hear everyone's stories.
pasalaska Posted June 11, 2011 Posted June 11, 2011 ooh good idea Jaymee! this month is gonna be filled with 'this time last year' moments. For instance, this time last year I was finishing off my exams, and I had 2 days to go until I boarded a flight to Manchester, UK, for the start of the most epic, best year of my life.
Daughter.of.Rage.and.Love Posted June 11, 2011 Posted June 11, 2011 I'm gonna throw in May 29th and June 2010 Appreciation. No time to write things up right now but I just wanted to make sure May 29 is included as well Love the idea!

Pictures, videos, stories, sound bites, the whole enchilada!
Kayfabe Posted June 11, 2011 Posted June 11, 2011 Hunh, matter of fact I was just by wembley stadium. And my mum was all 'yeah we went here once before to drop you off at Green Day last year, remember' and I went 'no mum I have absolutely no recollection of this event'
pasalaska Posted June 11, 2011 Posted June 11, 2011 It's also got some parts of the 2010 US tour in it, but I feel this should be posted here because it shows what June started for us edited by Sarah (Sarah?)
Four. Posted June 11, 2011 Posted June 11, 2011 This time last year I started really freaking out about how the Montreal show was in just 2 months. There was a bunch of exams and I couldn't help but daydream about how the concert was going to be. It's also got some parts of the 2010 US tour in it, but I feel this should be posted here because it shows what June started for us edited by Sarah (Sarah?) That's so awesome! I want to be able to tour like you guys, haha!
se7en Posted June 11, 2011 Posted June 11, 2011 Oh my god it was just the best day EVER. I hung out with a few GDCers, Drove 6 hours there in the car, then straight home at 11pm at night, was awake a full 24 hours but my god it was so worth it. I was right at the front of the Wembely, I cannot describe how amazing that was, I saw my favourite band, sang my heart, I really MISS that day so much. However, its not all bad, I met a girl at the gig, who's now become my girlfriend, we're gonna go back to EVERY SHOW when they come back. I just wish the'd hurry up!!
WestboundSign! Posted June 11, 2011 Posted June 11, 2011 Awesome idea and yeah, they played a show in Munich today a year ago. And unfortunately it has been the only show I went to.. but still.. It really was the best day in my life. At the moment, I'm listening to the setlist all the way through, remembering the great time I had. On the one hand .. it's a bit sad. 'Cause I miss them. (haha, who would've thought?!) I miss the feeling you only get on a Green Day concert and I miss everything about that day. But on the other hand it's a great feeling remembering that day. This morning I've been a bit sad, it turned into a sad laugh and now? I'm hyperactive, happy and just glad I had the chance to see them live..
Harriet Posted June 11, 2011 Posted June 11, 2011 I was just finishing my GCSEs this time last year. I remember when I got my exam list and realised all mine finished before the show instead of after, and me and my friend freaked out cause we were so happy. Going to Wembley was the most epic post exam celebration ever.
Comedy & Tragedy Posted June 11, 2011 Posted June 11, 2011 I'm not even going to be in Ireland for the Marlay anniversary It's just gonna make me even more depressed. But I do love the idea of reminiscing about it Earlier this week was one year since I went to Rage Against the Machine. The whole time I was thinking "The next concert I go to is the big one." It's crazy
Micky Posted June 11, 2011 Posted June 11, 2011 This time last year I was burning my face while in line for the show in Munich. Jeez, it was so hot that day. Also, tomorrow last year I'll have a red nose that will hurt like hell I think it was 5/6pm when we got inside with the early entries?! In a few hours I'll pass out
Marki. Posted June 11, 2011 Posted June 11, 2011 I can't believe it's been a year since I went to Munich... the memories
Smoothed Out Posted June 11, 2011 Posted June 11, 2011 This is a great idea :D 2010 was the best year ever and of course 16th June was the best day of my life ever, I had a chemistry exam in the morning which I was freaking about (ended up getting a B anyways) and at 9:00am the start of the exam tickets were being released for a 30STM concert in December, of course then I was thinking about GD at the LCCC at night too. Just an amazing day. I always remember being in the car and the journey seemed to take forever, what with it being rush hour and being stuck in traffic jams, my grandma asked me what I had for tea...to which I very shortly and impatiently replied to with `a lump of shephards pie and two rennies.` At the time it wasn't that funny but ever since then my family have always found a way to remind me of it It seems like yesterday... Edit-totally just remembered the LCCC thread...omg the conversation about porta potties and the hugathon
-Billiejoezee- Posted June 11, 2011 Posted June 11, 2011 Ohh, I wish I had something to share =( Me too. Didn't see them in June.
Tre_Gina Posted June 11, 2011 Posted June 11, 2011 ah June 2010 I went to the Manchester and Wembley shows. My memories are off the 4am start on the day of the Manchester show, the long drive and how hot it was that day! I loved that show but not the drive home, I got home at 5am the next morning so had been up for 24hours and was leaving for london that afternoon! Wembley was on such a huge scale - great venue and so many GDCers in those t-shirts Hannah made for us. It was so much colder that day though. I remember the surprise when they played Waiting and Dominated Love Slave. I also remember crying through the whole of the acoustic encore- it was just perfect. It actually seems longer than a year ago to me.
Jaymee!! Posted June 11, 2011 Author Posted June 11, 2011 I'm gonna wait until actual dates to post my memories...I can't believe it's been a year (and longer for some) already. It all still feels like it was just a short time ago, even though so much has happened since.

Undómiel Posted June 11, 2011 Posted June 11, 2011 Pull up a patch of concrete, get a fitted bedsheet from lidls, a german girl you've met five minutes previously, order pizza in the queue, get pizze delivered to H/J gate in the queue, snuggle down to sleep for the 13 or so hours to go... Good times.
