Heather. Posted November 16, 2013 Posted November 16, 2013 I guess a band that calls out 2 of the worlds biggest popstars, loses their frontman to rehab for months, then comes back out and goes on a massive tour, and lost very little popularity, but basically ALL of their mainstream relevance, and still manages to pull off winning the best rock act at the EMA's which is basically a mainstream popularity award, mustn't be enjoyed by a large majority of people? They've sold more copies than any other rock group formed since 1987. More than Pearl Jam, more than Nirvana, more than Nickelback, more than Linkin Park, more than anyone. Except B'z. Maybe it's not 80 percent. I can't use a specific number. But if I asked everyone I know if they enjoy at least one Green Day song, I'd go so far to say that all of them would say yes. Which one is irrelevant. Because then I don't think you'd find an agreement. The point in my original comment is basically that pretty much anyone will know at least one Green Day song, so if offered an opportunity to see them in concert, they would say yes, but almost all of Green Day's hardcore fans are younger people without a lot of money. Because not too many middle aged people can relate to angsty pop rock. Yeah, but I think "enjoying at least one Green Day song" is really different from liking them. I "enjoy" one song by One Direction. I "enjoy" one song by Demi Lovato. If someone asked me "do you like Demi Lovato and think she's good?" I would say no. Then there's the demographics of people you ask. Green Day are obviously one of the biggest rock bands in the world and certainly American rock bands, but you ask half the American South and most minorities (who are a majority at this point) and they don't give a shit about Green Day. 80% of white people in America have knowingly or not heard a Green Day song. Maybe 60% of those people liked the song. Maybe 50% of THOSE people would go so far as to say they like the band. Sorry, the reason I'm on about race and culture is because I live in New York and I work in a school district that serves almost exclusively thousands of Latino, Arab, and African American families, and almost none of the teenagers know or like Green Day. And people who have heard Good Riddance and therefore think "Oh, I like that ONE song, but the rest of their stuff..." hardly count. Because like I said, I have a Chris Brown song on my iPod and I don't like his music. I'm not saying they're not a massively popular band, they have 30 million likes on Facebook which is enormous compared to other pop acts of different genres. At the same time, I've tested the "do you like Green Day" card in SO many different places, and it's very hit or miss. They're much more polarizing than you think.
halfempty Posted November 16, 2013 Posted November 16, 2013 ^ I don't think I ever met a person who didn't like Good Riddance. So is it just a coincidence Billie Joe and Blondie were just together at Bob Gruen's birthday party? Or are those pictures old and I just only saw them a week ago?

Davis Weiss Posted November 18, 2013 Posted November 18, 2013 It'll be hard to monitor the concert thread (if there is one) while I'm watching American Idiot!

UNICORN VOMIT Posted November 19, 2013 Posted November 19, 2013 Wow - I didn't know the event was that big.
Hero_Of_The_Hour Posted November 19, 2013 Posted November 19, 2013 Woah looks massive!! A lot of kids will benefit from this for sure which is great Big difference in this being some corporate event for a bunch of suits. Kudos to Green Day and Blondie which is also a dream lineup!
Brian Gag Posted November 19, 2013 Posted November 19, 2013 Green Day playing in Dreamcast? Oh. Wait a second. Apparently I misread the headline.
tdlyon Posted November 19, 2013 Posted November 19, 2013 Don't expect much from the setlist for this show. Probably strictly greatest hits, and maybe even with all the cursing removed if it's an event for children. Do we even know how long they're playing?

I don't think the audience is necessarily going to be kids, it's just a benefit for the children's hospital. In fact, I see it being a bunch of stuffshirt people from the world of medicine, philanthropists and marketing people but someone correct me if I'm wrong. I do expect it to be very greatest hits-heavy anyway, from both bands.

There were many kids.
AlissaGoesRAWR Posted November 19, 2013 Posted November 19, 2013 My brain still can't process that a Green Day show is happening tomorrow. What time does it start EST? Hopefully I'm home from work in time for some live updates.

Mozzabillie Posted November 19, 2013 Posted November 19, 2013 I was thinking about hanging outside the stadium and listening and possibly watching the big screen if they use it like for other concerts at the Giants stadium but it is going to be raining. It hasn't rained in MONTHS here and it picks tomorrow to start.
jacknovella Posted November 19, 2013 Posted November 19, 2013 Anyone think we'll get any good quality videos from this? Pro-shot even?
Judges daughter 93 Posted November 19, 2013 Posted November 19, 2013 Soundcheck for the Dreamforce Gala I think
