Hello all Idiots,

I am coming to you today to ask for some help.

Especially you band geeks,I know there are some on this forum.

So 2 of my closest friends, who are in band, are convincing the band directors to do a "Jesus of Suburbia" high school marching band show.

Being I am not in band myself,I cannot provide much help with how it's set up,I kind of provided the idea that it would be a perfect marching band show.

A marching band show typically consists of (Do not murder if I am wrong,I am doing based off of my vague memory of band)

  1. Different parts/movements with each movement being a different sound
  2. Features all instruments
  3. Has different paced sections.
  4. Tells a story

and there is nothing as perfect and unique as doing "Jesus of Suburbia". (or at least in my opinion)

If the band directors agree, This will be the first time ANYBODY probably does this. (to my knowledge).

I think It's a great idea,

What do you guys think?

Any advice? What can I say to persuade the band directors? How can the show be set up? Which instruments play what?

If you have multiple drummers, you can make one hell of a solo.

I like this project, it seems fun :P

Usually, a marching band show is split up into three movements/parts. The first and third movement are the more dramatic ones, and the third movement is usually the heaviest/darkest/more intense part of the show. The second movement is the slowest part of the show and is usually the ballad-esque part.

If I were doing the show, Jesus of Suburbia, City of the Damned, and I Don't Care would be the first movement, Dearly Beloved and the first part of Tales of Another Broken Home would be the second movement, and the end of Tales of Another Broken Home would be the third movement, if you want to keep the song in order, that is.

I think that if JoS could be transposed on to marching instruments (i.e., trumpet, trombone, etc.) it would sound really cool! I'm currently on third bass on my school's drum line, and I can just imagine the bass splits and rim shots that could be incorporated to a marching band version of JoS.

I really hope y'all can make this happen. It would be so great. South Doyle, another high school in this area, did different songs from The Who's Tommy album for their marching show last season (they played Pinball Wizard and everything) and it'd be awesome if someone could making a Green Day/JoS-related show.

I've been in concert bands for at least the past 5 years and I've played plenty of rock songs and medleys. I think Jesus of Suburbia would translate really well to a marching band (although it could be difficult marching to the 3/4 sections of I Don't Care since marches are normally in 2/4). Good luck convincing your band director :)
