gmcloughlin Posted May 31, 2023 Share Posted May 31, 2023 I listened to it yesterday, and tbh I liked it 😅 the lyrics are nothing special but it's catchy, far better than Pollyanna or Here Comes the Shock, probably on a par with Holy Toledo or just below it (that song has a great chorus to sing along to 😊) My God the opening really does sound the exact same as Pink's So What 🙈 I can see that being a headline if they ever officially release this song! Flashback Posted May 31, 2023 Share Posted May 31, 2023 I heard it now in full for the first time. What I love about the track is that they have so many rhythmical changes in the song. I mean only the chorus itself consists of three different parts and also the bridge has surprises in it. But yeah, you can clearly hear the similarities to Passenger and Holiday (in my opinion stronger than to So What). Anyways, hopefully it gets an official release someday! edit: oh and if THIS is the production level of an unreleased demo track, then I'm really looking forward to the upcoming album. The production quality of OEB is absolutely amazing (especially in comparison to FOAM). Mostly because this is like ther "classic" sound, but with some artifacts to make it catchy to the point is dumb. Now in the other side of things, the file is a hi-res audio. What it means is that the leaker didn't even care to encode it in a lesser format to make easier to share. The riff is a rip off (and I love Pink) and the song is so meh. I'd be disappointed if this was the direction of the new LP. It's just...fine. However, it is just an OK idea for GD. It has also a vibe from Say Goodbye from RevRad. It's cool the fact we had the "chance" to listen to something that was not intended to be released, though. Popular Post Malleus Posted June 2, 2023 Popular Post Share Posted June 2, 2023 My initial reaction to finding about this is as follows: 1) I decided to make a playlist of the trilogy songs because I wanted to revisit them and rearrange them in a way I thought was fun and cool but also maintained a logical and interesting flow. Did that. Reaffirmed my love for those songs even if I don't think they're the strongest on their own. 2) Randomly Googling Green Day and wondering what was up with their teasing and coming across a GD subreddit. 3) Hearing about this song and eventually finding it, and trying to make internal peace with the fact that the song does, sometimes overwhelmingly, share a strong similarity with that Pink song, and also it being recorded during the Network LP2 sessions but also being better than any song on FOAM. In short: I am not sure. I love Green Day, this song is dope, and I'm pretty sure Pink wouldn't mind but if this is a B-side from the Network LP (and I get it being a stylistic outlier) but they didn't feel like they include it on FOAM, I wonder why they thought that. This is so much tighter and better than so much of FOAM and I just hope that if this is the kind of thing they've felt the need to disregard in the last ~four or so years, hopefully their next album or project or whatever is unified and tighter than FOAM lmao. 6 Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
