Blink seems to had the will to be on top of the charts with the infinite pop influences along California. I don't see that on RevRad. They just wanted to put out new music. Musically, structurally and lyrically, RevRad feels way more complex, diverse and better worked than California though.
unextraordinarygirl Posted October 10, 2016 Posted October 10, 2016 Rev Rad is better than California cuz Blink sucks!
That Dude Posted October 10, 2016 Posted October 10, 2016 I love Blink-182, they are my 7th favorite band. But there's no comparison. Green Day are my #1 but the ocean of difference is more vast than simply the five bands in between. Whether it's song by song, album by album or career by career.....it's hands down Green Day every time, across the boards. The only exception MIGHT be some of Blink's better work versus Kerplunk but even then it's a tough call. I adore California. But Revolution Radio simply slaughters it. RevRad grabs California by it's throat and throws it into a supernova. REVRAD WINS!!!!! (Mortal Kombat voice)
Cob Posted October 10, 2016 Posted October 10, 2016 RevRad is a thoroughly crafted, self-produced, sincere rediscovery of the band's sound and personality. The songs tell stories about the band (or at least Billie) and tell us where they are mentally. It's a combination of the old and the new, and it has something to say about both the band's personal life while also touching on their place in the world we live in. California is vapid, horribly underwritten and way overproduced. It panders to the band's most basic fans while lacking any semblance of depth or honesty (a feature that most of their previous records had). Its enjoyable from the surface, but once you dive in there isn't much to find outside of repetitive hooks and haphazard lyrics. I say this as a fan of both bands (and a huge Trio/Skiba fan).

I'm surprised you feel this way when songs like "Same Boat" and "Bad Directions" are infectious and showcase the band at their best.
thisguy3496 Posted October 10, 2016 Posted October 10, 2016 California is the worst Blink record in my opinion and Rev Rad is great

I've never really liked blink until California. I feel it my be my favorite album of theirs, but I'm also not really a fan. Although, I saw them live like 3 weeks ago and they were a great live show.
Joe. Posted October 10, 2016 Posted October 10, 2016 They're two totally different albums, but it's Revolution Radio for me. California is overproduced and feels uninspired most of the time, but I still like pretty much every song. I haven't really found any overwhelming issue with Revolution Radio

I just like the fact that RevRad feels a little more raw.
Jogs Posted October 10, 2016 Posted October 10, 2016 i listened to California whole album...i was like "eehhh..." on every song i listened, and those lyric videos..pls put more effort on it, while on RevRad, it's Green day's maturation on lyrics and music and Billie admitted it's just a normal GD record, it has no ambition...it's just them playing together, compare to california's lyrics that only tackles about nostalgia
Doggins Posted October 10, 2016 Posted October 10, 2016 I tried real hard to get in to California but its not happening. Grantidly i always preferred new Blink rather than classic Blink and i cant stand John Feldmanns production and he has shat all over it. So that means its very very easy for me to vote revrad
