  1. I finally got around to posting the Billie drawing I finished last week. I did it from one of my very own pictures I took at the Hella Mega show I went to. This one to be exact: I'm happy with how it turned out.

  2. Sam Bayer came out of retirement just to make the Oh Love video, so I'm pretty sure it exists to satisfy his desire. It's meant to come across as a famous rock band being backstage with hot girls, as people have always expected famous rock bands to be, which isn't anything new or groundbreaking. That doesn't mean it's problematic, offensive or upsetting in any way. It's just a cliche that could have been done well but, at least in my opinion, wasn't. I wouldn't even say it's aged badly. It was always crap! That said, I do think the band look great in it. I generally dislike everything about Sam Bayer's work (JOS and WMUWSE were too many minutes of my life that I'll never get back), but I do like the set and lighting in the Oh Love video. If only it had been five minutes and three seconds of the band alone in the warehouse. The song is great and it deserves better.

  3. After I posted these photos saying they were from the show at the Red 7 @solongfromthestars reminded me that they're actually from the Mezzanine on 1 November 2011 and showed me some other cool photos from that show that I'm sharing here Setlist: https://www.setlist.fm/setlist/green-day/2011/mezzanine-san-francisco-ca-7bd1a2ec.html

  4. Bang Bang is such a bop and the lyrics are on par with 21st Century Breakdown (my favourite album of all time!) in my opinion. I wasn't that bothered about the tune when it came out but it's really held up and I love it more every time I hear it live. Billie has the stage presence to pull it off.

  5. It's Sam Bayer. I don't think Oh Love was meant to be subversive. Whether it was a focus on the women in power or the men in power, I would still find it super out of place for a Green Day video and not a good fit for the song. We are pattern finders by nature and I think that's what's going on here. You'll read into it what you want to see and that's about it. At the end of the day, it's a dumb, poorly executed video with Green Day trying to be all "cool rock star" and a bunch of Playboy actresses showing off their bodies (nothing wrong with that, it's just not making a statement and doesn't add anything). HCTS was just stupid and boring. I think I'd rather watch Oh Love because at least the band is playing in it. I'm done here. Look at this cute boy.

  6. “She” is an awesome beautiful song this much is true. Very true. However, totally not a BTS video as titled and what a lot of people were waiting for especially during these trying times and lack of social media or interviews. They would be less disappointment if it wasn’t year two of isolation, not being about to travel and all the other stuff. Plus, don’t call it BTS. It could have had a funny interview backstage or something or anything but it didn’t. That does not take away from She being an absolutely outstanding beautiful meaningful song. It’s one of my favs. It means a lot to me and a lot of us I’m sure. The performance and the way this video looks is fantastic. I’m going to watch it again right now. But it’s not BTS.

  7. It's solid banger after solid banger! ...Maybe I shouldn't be driving to it I forgot my phone and didn't have anything else to do while The Rumpel™ was in her appointment so I was air drumming to Dos and it made me miss my drum kit and want a new one for the first time in years. I might have to invest in an electronic one when I next get paid. The things this band makes me do

  8. Me and @solongfromthestars were driving along to "Dos" today and omg I'd forgotten what a banger that whole album is!

  9. Billie with Kut u Up after the Mezzanine Show where they supported Green Day. They also feature in the DVD of "Riding on Vans with Boys" as they toured with GD and Blink 182 at that time. Billie famously branded Chris Cotes, the lead singer in the band (1 November 2011) There's a video of the branding here https://images.app.goo.gl/QtrKTacXA3DDMkEf8

  11. You can post your question in this help thread, which is the appropriate place… no need to post it repeatedly though, as it seems you have your answer. As others have said, both GDA and the Instagram have been down for a while. The Instagram issue has been happening to many fan accounts and is beyond our control. Sorry I can’t offer more of an explanation or ETA on getting GDA fixed.

  12. I would love to see Oh Love live and to leave the video buried in history rather than the song and the whole Trilogy. I don’t mind the video but it’s not worth the fuss. It’s not the songs fault. I am so sad none of the Trilogy is represented on any Green Day set lists. I’d say “recent set lists” but it’s been years at this point. It’s gotta mean something. Two albums and a bunch of side projects and even years later and there’s nothing like a discussion about the Trilogy to get fans hyped up and interested in talking about songs, themes, theories and even more. Plus, these songs gotta mean something to someone in the band hence the Otis Remixes.

  13. Y E S THAT was the song that got me hyped for the trilogy. And it's still a banger!

  14. Is so does 😢 I’m really glad at least Oh Love got an Otis Remix and a different sort of release. I wish it got more. Like to be played on tour and released as a live video for Oakland Coffee Coffeehouse or something. This song needs a rescue mission. It’s too good for what it got (reception wise based on the most common reactions to the video and a few other things).

  15. It's been like that for a while now and we miss it too. We're waiting for Andres to fix it but obviously, everyone has a life outside of GDA and GDC and things come up. The Instagram keeps disappearing for the same (ridiculous) reason as other fan accounts.

  16. From @bubukittyfk on Instagram They bought Mickey a fish and fishbowl but he knocked it over wanting to play with the fish. It broke and Tre went to get another one. The fish is called "Goldie"

  17. We will never know what was in Sam Bayer's head nor will we know the conversations the band had with him in the creation of the video. For all we know, Billie, for example could have told him what he would have been like if he were not a family man...same for Mike and Tre. Or it could have been Sam Bayer's interpretation of what rock stars' experiences are. 🤷‍♀️

  20. I understand that you guys are very disappointed of not having real BTS footage on this latest episode. I'd be too, but honestly I don't care about it.. ..BECAUSE THEY USED SHE AS VIDEOS AUDIO LETS GOOOOOOOOOOOOO. I've been wondering for some time that how almost 50yo Billie sings it and looks like he managed to pull off a decent perfomance! It's rough in some places and there are few places where pitch correction is very noticeable (end of 1st verse and 2nd chorus ''THAT'S BEEN PLANNED OUT FOR YOU''), but he fucking screamed that ''TO SMASH THE SILENCE WITH THE BRICK OF SELF CONTROL'' that is my absolutely favorite part of the song! He has not been doing that consistently since 99 Revolutions Tour and I always hated it how he sang it during Revolution Radio Tour, so this was a very pleasant surprise to me, even if it was only one time thing (haven't checked other Hella Mega shows so I have no idea is it consistent thing or not). Long gone are the days of Billie singing She perfectly, but this 2021 version isn't so bad! If only he'd stop singing high on parts that definitely don't need 'em, this would be so much better. Happy fanboy from Finland is happy ❤️

  21. I really want to read and understand this debate. Me when I start reading a post with 500+ words:

  22. Oh Love Official Video is 100% nudity 100% drugs 100% cringe 100% unnecessary and stupid

  23. I love this! You've captured his expression perfectly. All I've drawn for the last year or more is Pokémon stuff. I should do another Green Day drawing now I've got a tablet.

  24. Can you not make a thread every time you have a minor question that doesn’t invite discussion? Someone already directed you to the Q&A thread for these kinds of things where someone literally asked this same question already
    1 point
  25. The thing is, I’m not sure how subversive it actually is? I like the way you read it, but I don’t believe that was the intent. Which doesn’t neccessarily matter because we’re free to interpret it anyway we like, except that I don’t want to praise Sam Bayer for something he most likely didn’t do consciously

  26. Look what a walking contradiction I am, because here I go engaging in an internet debate! I think the way you view the video is very creative and interesting. What makes most of us understand it the other way around is the way it’s filmed with the focus on women’s bodies, their scant clothing etc... aka the so-called male gaze. It seems to me that this way of filming takes the focus away from the fact that it’s the women who are actually watching (quite literally, considering that we’re having this conversation in a thread dedicated to talking about men’s bodies - I think that’s an interesting aspect of fan culture but that’s for another time), but you could very well argue that it’s an interesting juxtaposition (even though I think that’s way too smart from Sam Beyer and he probably did it accidentally while all he wanted to portay were rockstars and The Boobs ). You reminded me of this video Lindsay Ellis made about the way Megan Fox’s character is portrayed in the Transformers movies vs. the way it’s written in the script. Here it is if you’re interested.

  27. They fucked it up right at the start by making Oh Love the lead single

  28. We kind of knew they fucked it up right at the start of the trilogy with the old school 3D glasses for the lyrics video

  29. It's cliche "sex, drugs & rock 'n roll". There is nothing progressive about the video. And of course the girls are "consenting." It's the role they are being paid to play. I invite you to watch the bts of the video:

  30. I also hate WMUWSE video. I have never liked it. Sure, the story is important but it's just boring. And I hate the acting at the beginning. I have no qualms about JOS. Then again I had a huge crush on the guy playing St Jimmy so.... I'd much rather this JOS than WMUWSE or HCTS and especially Oh love. As for which is worse, Oh Love or HCTS...that's sooo hard. Oh Love actually has Green Day but makes me cringe. HCTS is just boring. Honestly I think I could tolerate HCTS more. Oh Love is way too cringe and just weird. HCTS is at least more within their wheelhouse.

  31. What saved WMUWSE from being the worst are those awesome performance shots though. I wish they’d release a cut of just that studio part where they perform because damn they all look good and I love that Jason’s in it. That shot of Billie looking up is just 👀 🔥

  32. I just hate it because I don't see how emos posing around, being abusive to their parents for no reason, vandalising stores and cutting their wrists to be cool reflects anything about Billie's youth/the Bay Area punk scene that seemed to actually have worthwhile values which the song refers to. Like, youth rebellion can be shown without being super cringe. I think it was the first Green Day video I waited for and I was very disappointed by it lol. Director's fault though not the actors.

  33. I'll go with Oh Love. At least with HCTS they helped a small streamer to have some visibility and build her community even bigger. I don't think Playboy girls need that.

  34. If they set the video in 1920s he’d pull it off as an artist dying of consumption really well.
    1 point
  35. Hmm, that's too bad. Nevertheless, there are tarantulas that come out during early fall for mating season in the Bay Area. In the original story, he was talking to it and said "Someone should write a song about you" and then encouraged it to go into the neighbor's yard.

  37. You can ask questions like this in this thread No need to make a new one

  38. Ah, makes me want to draw Billie again! Doing to a silhouette like that would be super simple and easy. Maybe I should do one too. But I also love doing the details, though that's more time intensive. Don't know if I ever posted it in this thread so I'll go ahead since it's resurfaced. I did this one a few months ago. https://www.instagram.com/p/CQE5iQqtLAl/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link
