The demos being so complete makes me curious what happened with Scott Litt as producer 2:41 of the Misery demo - "It's the bridge!"
-
Why is Suffocate on this even though it was a Nimrod session recording? Is it because of inclusion on Shenanigans?

I think out of all the anniversary box sets (not counting Insomniac), this one might be my least favorite, but I still enjoyed it. The demos are cool and have a rougher sound to them, but I'm kinda sad we didn't get more from this era, songs like "Waiting" and the title track not having demos are also kinda weird (maybe they never got demos recorded, who knows). The Otis mixes are cool, I hope they do something like this for future anniversary box sets too (like the "Uno Dos Tre" trilogy), the Otis mix of "Waiting" might be my new favorite version of the song. The 2025 remasters are also pretty neat, the songs sound a little cleaner, it's cool to hear this album get more polish and love. The live concert is cool to have, their Japan 2001 shows are awesome, but I noticed Billie's voice sounds a bit rough in this recording. Considering the concert the next day was the Shibuya-AX show, where Billie's voice was completely shot, I wonder if he was partially sick at this show too. Pretty interesting they chose this concert to include on the box set. I'm sad "Church on Sunday" and "When I Come Around" from this show got omitted for whatever reason, I guess their recordings of the songs got messed up or something. Hopefully the bootleg show of this show turns up so we can have the full thing available again. I hope the next box set will be 21st Century Breakdown or the Trilogy!

Damn I love this band
-
Oh man i wish they release shenanigans anniversary edition next year. Either we get a hi-res audio of every shenanigans track or we get shenanigans with a 2nd disc like what smashing pumpkins did to pisces iscariot In short: they just reduce the volume decibels and call it a day
-
Only just started listening but right off the bat, I love how raw and punchy the guitar is on the Misery demo.

You guys remember that terrible, horrible, no good MAX CREEPS thing that made us think it was a Green Day project but turned out to be some fart noises by a Guns N Roses guy and some rando. I remember.
-
Billie did say that if he were to ever rerecord (I’d assume just the guitars given the Otis mixes we have) one of their albums, it would be Warning (not that he has to, just mentioning that it would be the most likely one if we go by Billie’s feelings) because it doesn’t sound live enough to him. And I absolutely agree. Was hoping I could throw in a version without the abrupt ending on my favorites playlist on Apple Music (tbh if one of the two comes on when I shuffle my favorites, I always make sure I listen to the two of them)

The songs that aren't already brick walled are more excusable... but the others just don't make sense lol how do they not have better audio sources in their vaults 😭
-
I think Nimrod was the only box set where they didn't lower volume on any of the tracks. Warning box set has all the demos, b-sides, and live album at half volume. The Warning remaster CD is the same volume as the original.
-
Suffocate must have been in nimrod 25, not here...
-
Whoever is putting together the track lists and digging through the vault has been REALLY lazy for all of these release lol there's so many small issues This version of Macy's Day Parade def sounds all original, but could be re-recorded I suppose... I wouldn't be surprised if Waiting has re-recorded elements, like guitar feedback and some new little licks in the verses mainly. Something that no one has really mentioned is that Jackass has a lot of new or modified lyrics... they are just really quiet in the mix This is EXACTLY some of the issues I was gonna mention LOL Dookie has this too... but I cant remember if AI and Nimrod do too There's literally no reason to do this other than to make the listener have to turn up and down the volume... they aren't more dynamic or anything, just lowered 🙃
-
My $17 Amazon box set arrived today! I noticed that all the B-sides are mixed much quieter than the Shenanigans version. All the demos are like this too. Top is Outsider from the box set and bottom is from Shenanigans CD.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think at least some OTIS tracks are partially re-recorded by Billie, not remixed. So the whole album would be a lot of work. "Suffocate" is not even the original, uncut, version? That's kind of embarrassing. They should have a digital copy of their whole catalogue, including singles. They could've reached out to any fan site and ask for a WAV rip of something haha Kidding aside, that's just lazy and proves our point that it's weird they slapped it on here just to fill the space. What a waste.

GREEN DAY IS MY LIFEEE started following drejoearmstrong

Macy's Day Parade (Otis) is *much* more than what the Saviors acoustic tracks are tbh. This is like a full on remix and I love it Actually makes me so sad that they didn't remix the full album in the same style The fact that they didn't use the single version of Suffocate is so funny to me. It still ends abruptly because the rest of it is supposed to transition into Desensitized... now I'm even more confused as to why they put this one on here, because originally I thought it was included to keep the full end of the song intact for streaming.

Mine has shipped from GD store, price seems to be as originally quoted.

This is such a deep discount even before the release date I wonder who decided to do this and why. Is it because the preorders did well or not well enough? Feels like a gift to fans in light of the current economy with layoffs and exploding healthcare costs. Much appreciated whatever the reason. I was a buyer at $49 (or whatever the original price was) and this almost seems unfair, like clearance prices, but not complaining when the cost of everything else in life is so high. I’ll take the win 💚

Walmart has shipped my box so that's the actual price

Nimrod demo disc on the 25th anniversary sounded so good I think of it as Nimrod II. American idiot demos more like alternate universe american idiot album
-
NGL if the rumors of it sounding like 90s Green Day are true, then shouldn't all of the demos be different? (At least in terms of sound)
-
I've just listened to the demos. Deadbeat Holiday, Castaway are the standouts. Misery has different lyrics and more raw sounding as is Jackass. Blood, Sex and Booze, Church on Sunday and Fashion Victim are similar to the final versions with few different details. Macy's Day Parade Otis Mix which is without drums and bass sounds better than the album version. I wish this was the album version. Waiting Otis Mix is cool and makes me think why Minority didn't get an Otis Mix. It would be lovely.
-
Looks like these are professional studio demos like AI and i think Nimrod as well
-
Checked my account and looks like I got the $17 price! They charged $19 total for tax. What a steal!
-
Just listened to the demos: Most of them are final versions, just like the demos from American Idiot. Exception is Misery, which has different lyrics on verses, almost like placeholders for a final song. The demos sound more 90's Green Day, louder guitars and slightly fast tempos. Waiting otis mix is awesome and I wonder if all those guitars were recorded back then and discarded on the final mix Macy's Day Parade Otis Mix is like the acoustic songs from Saviors deluxe, they only removed bass and drums from the track Maria is the single version

I joked to my niece what I wanted for Xmas was a private Green Day show and she got excited and said she wanted to go with me! She said two songs she really likes are American Idiot and Brainstew. It's alllll coming together...she'll be a fan in no time 🤣
