OK Human Review

OK Human was the light of this godawful January. It brought joy, laughter, and inspiration for its listeners. It starts off strong and only gets better as it progresses.

All My Favorite Songs is a modern rock hit with lyrics that touch you in the chest. It's a perfect choice for a lead single. It's an ultimate loser anthem that everyone can relate to.

Aloo Gobi is a beautiful song that invokes a rollercoaster of emotions. The chorus is a perfect example of the way everyone feels during this pandemic. We're all stuck in a harrowing situation, but instead of bitching, Weezer made a straight up banger about it. Then there's the part where we're reminded that we're not alone.

Grapes of Wrath is one for the bookworms. It alludes to many different classic books. This song is an all around bop.

Numbers is probably the deepest song on this album. It's a beautiful ballad that exposes the toxicity of societal standards, and how everyone feels like they have to mesure up to the numbers. The chorus hits hardest with simple, yet gut-wrenching lyrics.

Playing My Piano is my kind of song. What musician hasn't felt this way? This song describes the all consuming feeling of playing music. Lock yourself in a room and let the music take you. There's something powerful in music that enraptures you and comforts you. I believe Weezer did an amazing job of capturing that in this song and the album as a whole.

Mirror Image is a short song. I'm not too fond of it, to be honest. It's weird and filled with noise.

Screens is pretty straightforward. Everyone is on their damn devices, especially during this pandemic.

Bird With A Broken Wing is another beautiful ballad. The orchestra's presence here is really felt on this track. The chorus includes a wonderful chord progression, and a beautiful yet cello-centric orchestral accompaniment. When I close my eyes and listen to it, I feel like I'm on top of the world, staring down at busy city streets. This song belongs in an indie movie.

Dead Roses is a tear-jerker. Another orchestra heavy song. This one seems to be about losing someone you cared for. That's something many people have experienced tenfold during the pandemic, including myself. Dead Roses strikes the harp in your heart and resonates within you. It's an emotional song that only be summarized but the word "perfect".

Everything Happens For A Reason is a calm instrumental that takes you right into the next song. Blink and you miss it.

The piano part in Here Comes the Rain reminds me of a Billy Joel song. This song has a youthful, optimistic air to it. It seems like Weezer it trying to tell us to hold on because we're almost through the hard part of this pandemic. However you choose to interpret this, there's no question that it's an inspirational song.

La Brea Tar Pits is basically every pop song ever made in the year 1999, but that doesn't mean it's not good. It fits in the mellow vibe of the album, and ends it off on a dissonant yet beautiful chord.

In summary, Weezer has done it again. They've brought us a masterpiece that was much needed. Once again, they've displayed their ability to appeal to their audience and relate to us. I might even be as bold to say that OK Human is one of their best.
