Starting today we're removing links to ask.fm from status updates

The mod team has unanimously decided to stop allowing ask.fm links in status updates. We'll be deleting them from now on. We'll also be removing any other anonymous type q&a sites like anonymous questions via tumblr.

The are two major reasons for this change:

1) We're tired of all the promotional links for ask in status updates. There are just way too many that it's nearly removed any value from the status feature. It's become a place simply to promote ask.fm links and everything else is quickly drowned out. It's just tiring seeing the same exact links all the time.

2) We're tired of all the associated negativity that has come from allowing anonymous comments away from GDC. There's a group of people who mostly enjoy talking shit about others, stirring up crap, then dragging it all back to GDC by promoting their content. Then they play innocent like they've done nothing wrong. People will always talk shit about other people, but doing so anonymously and publicly isn't helping anyone at all.

Starting today we'll begin deleting status' to ask.fm or anonymous questionnaire sites. If you do it repeatedly you will be given a warning to stop.

"Let's make fake rules and then abide by our own alternative rules anyway" then?

There are no fake or alternative rules. Everything has a grey area, and that's why we discuss everything as we need to. When someone continues to get suspended for being an asshole and showing no interest to be here besides to fuck around with their friends and cause shit with other people, then we're going to get tired of it eventually. When something comes up, the team talks about it. If we feel something has gone too far, we address it.

I can think of two people immediately who fit this description. Why aren't they being banned? (Not that I want that. Just playing devil's advocate here.)

Report it, the team will talk about it. That's what we do. We don't go around trying to think of people we should ban unless something comes to our attention that we think needs to be addressed.

Have you learned nothing, my young Padawan?

Anyways, cool beans on the logic behind banning cunts while not banning people who threaten and attack others. I'm just gonna stick around and have some fun for a while. Might point out a hypocrisy or two along the way. You know, in hopes they get fixed. Look forward to seeing you around! :)

Yeah Ben, you always had all the right answers. Glad you could once again grace us with your knowledge.

I got a "question" on ask.fm saying some rude things about Jizz and that she should kill herself. I don't know why they'd send that to me, but whatever. I just blocked the anon and deleted it.

All my reports get brushed aside :(

Sorry, this is the first time I saw the actual petition, each time I clicked on the link last night, there would be a 404 error and a pic of a frog, which is where my assumption came from. And I always think people know the things I know.

Yeah, no, they're real. Awesome reaction from a forum that just kicked Jizz out for being "a downright bitch".

See above.

By the way, you're definitely not familiar with the fact that a lot of people on here get name-called for not doing anything in particular. A friend whose written expression is somewhat below average got called annoying the other day for absolutely no reason...

...and BOTH sides of this argument liked that comment about her, not understanding that it's a somewhat logical consequence of her developmental disorder. I just saw her make a very random post and get attacked, once again, for no reason, whatsoever.

I can also remember the time I joined here, where everybody was nice and then a group of people suddenly stopped talking in a normal manner to everybody but their group of friends and hating on the rest of us for no apparent reason.

So, it's not that everybody was "disturbing". Both sides of this argument are more or less wrong, but everything comes down to a re-creation of http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Asterix_and_the_Roman_Agent .

It's not going to help the people complaining about Iain that instead of just reporting him, several of them actively try to wind him up, make offensive jokes about him and send him hateful asks. If you honestly think he should be banned maybe you should stop making a public (or anonymous) drama about it and just report any further behaviour you think is unacceptable.

GDC has become such a hostile place these past several months. I don't really understand why or how it has come to this? There's more arguing and harm than joy and happiness. People want to fight...why? I don't know the solution. Is it because there's nothing else to do? When Green Day is away, GDC goes crazy I guess

A lot of comes from a group of friends who like to wind people up, then go off and laugh about it together on Skype or Facebook or wherever they talk.

I don't think it had anything to do with GD not doing anything. Because there's actually a lot going on in the GD world right now!

I just wish some users would realise how stupid it is to keep making fun of people and just trying to make them angry. It's ridiculous.

It has nothing to do with Green Day not doing anything; it has everything to do with a certain group of people who wants nothing more than to piss people off for no reason.

I don't think any disorder is something to hide behind. I can't speak for everyone but the impression I get is that they want to be treated normally, and if certain things aren't brought to their attention then how are they suppose to know they goofed and work at bettering themselves? I understand that there is a difference in functionality, but there are differences in all people as well, and I can admit that a lot of what is brought forth could be done with more tact, but at least it's being brought forth. Criticism plain and simple can be viewed in a constructive manner even if the delivery wasn't exactly positive . I've been called out for many things, and I have no problem calling myself out for something I notice I have done wrong or just had a mishap with. I find many people have a problem with admitting fault, and all it really contributes to is making them more of an obstacle to deal with

Pointing it out for constructive criticism is one thing. Saying "You're annoying" and "You don't know that we're speaking in the English language" is uncalled for.

I think it's great! :) although I didn't really care 'cause I don't use that, but they were getting a little bit repetitive and boring on the updates, so, thanks!

eh ask.fm went in the crapper ever since they wanted everyone to pay to be able to stream music on your smartphones.
