Starting today we're removing links to ask.fm from status updates

The mod team has unanimously decided to stop allowing ask.fm links in status updates. We'll be deleting them from now on. We'll also be removing any other anonymous type q&a sites like anonymous questions via tumblr.

The are two major reasons for this change:

1) We're tired of all the promotional links for ask in status updates. There are just way too many that it's nearly removed any value from the status feature. It's become a place simply to promote ask.fm links and everything else is quickly drowned out. It's just tiring seeing the same exact links all the time.

2) We're tired of all the associated negativity that has come from allowing anonymous comments away from GDC. There's a group of people who mostly enjoy talking shit about others, stirring up crap, then dragging it all back to GDC by promoting their content. Then they play innocent like they've done nothing wrong. People will always talk shit about other people, but doing so anonymously and publicly isn't helping anyone at all.

Starting today we'll begin deleting status' to ask.fm or anonymous questionnaire sites. If you do it repeatedly you will be given a warning to stop.

No, it's just made you a pansy. There's a difference. :P

Ok, so my big change of now accepting of LGBT people has made me a pansy, thanks for clarifying. I'll go back to calling people faggots now.

The fact that some people have whined about us not upholding the rule previously and complained that we're now going to do so in the same sentence amazes me.

Apparently, Alissa, two wrongs do make a right.

OK, just checking. I want to make sure I'm following the rules around here. :)

P.S. SO happy to see you around here again!

Those are likely screenies of websites edited inline, as opposed to real petition signatures. Just too weird to be real.

Um, wtf? What did Jinx get banned for? (soz, have not been keeping up with forum drama...)

If those are serious comments then I despair. And even if they're not...jeez, can't you find something better to do with your life?

Yeah, no, they're real. Awesome reaction from a forum that just kicked Jizz out for being "a downright bitch".

Funny how retaliation can work, isn't it?

That could likely just one person who REALLY hates her making multiple comments. Not all of us who don't care that she's gone or are glad she's gone are that awful.

There's no "could" about it, lol.

I'm not sure if that means you agree with me or if it means you think the complete opposite

It means there's no questioning, in my mind, that it's the same person posting multiple times.

You guys are trying to conflate two issues to try and justify one or the other. The mod team banned Jizz because we were tired of the way she treated other members, both here and on other social media. It wasn't one single thing that led the decision, it was a combination of things. We finally just had enough of trying to hold her hand, then smacking it and telling her "stop being a bitch".

Just because we banned her doesn't mean that all is forgiven or that people are suddenly going to stop thinking badly of her. Especially when she's gone out of her way to say some really fucking mean things to individuals. Of course people shouldn't be going out and trying to shit all over her now, but that's what happens so long as her friends continue to do this faux-memorial of losing her as a member. People will continue to be say mean shit because they don't like her or like that you guys are making any kind of deal out of her being gone.

Are people hypocrites, yup. But that doesn't mean anything in the context of us removing ask.fm accounts. We're not just banning some people or a group of people from using them, we're banning everyone. Because many of you, not one side or the other, like to be assholes, then like to drag that shit back to GDC.

It's a problem when people think it's ok to take things people say here, things they express out of comfort within the community while looking for advice or just looking to be honest here, only to have someone take that shit to another site to make fun of them. We consider that an abuse of your membership in our community, and that's the type of stuff that helped led us to make the decision we have.

What happened to five warns in row first before being banned again? :P

We've always said the team could ban anyone if we felt it necessary. The 5 warns to get a permaban was always an alternative way to end up kicked out.

And yet, when people give you equally if not more valid reasons to skip the whole five-step program, you choose to ignore it and let them slide time and time again. The logic behind banning a "downright bitch" while others here are allowed to indulge in violent, borderline disturbing comments escapes me.

hi ben, nice to see you around. not so nice to see you making dumb assumptions when you don't see half a story, but then again, not really surprising at this point.

"Let's make fake rules and then abide by our own alternative rules anyway" then?
