Extra Life 2016 + Art Giveaway!

Aloha GDC brethren!   Tis time for me to start my my fundraising efforts for the 2016 Extra Life campaign!  To summarize, Extra Life is a charity event, in which you play video games for 24 hours to raise funds for the Children's Hospital of your choice.  I play for the Children's Hospital of Denver, Colorado, as I know some kids who go there, including two kids I used to babysit who go there for diabetes check ups. I love doing volunteer work, and I love games, so this event is really

Fuck Donald Trump, A Love Letter

Fuck Donald Trump, A Love Letter     Fuck Donald Trump.  I’ll be the millionth man to say it. I’ll say it once,  I’ll say it twice,  so you won’t need to replay it.  Fuck Donald Trump, your hair looks like a bleached skunk, and your face looks like the leather couch I sunk in to a minute ago but I hope you know your face isn’t the reason you ain’t winnin’ this race.  No, there’s far more there to ensure you lose your case. Something Minor

Something Minor     Sometimes I wonder  how someone can have the audacity  to stand on the edge of the universe and declare that they matter.    It’s a matter of taste, I suppose. We’re all just matter, I know.   On some level it comforts me  that we’re nowhere close to the center of this place.   I stare at the stars, but my gaze is greeted  by nothing more than  a constant glimmering apathy.

Essay: I Miss You

Something a little different. The last year or so, I've written to myself a lot. I've not done so much creative writing since around March, but I have had a dialogue with myself. It's a wa of highlighting the good things and processing the bad. I won't be sharing any of that stuff. It's for my eyes only. But it has informed my approach to things and encouraged me to articulate sensations, notions and generally pay attention to thoughts. This is one of those thoughts.    I Miss You

Winter's Last Call

Winter’s Last Call     You always said, “One must have the mind  for winter” to love the frigid air  and the biting wind of a season held  stagnant by the snow   I’ve been cold  for a long time now, like  these trees  that surround me, trees bound,  as I am, by ice.    I’ve been walking  for a long time  now, too.  I left my home some time ago, and I did it  in search of you.

How I Found Green Day

First of all - OH MY GOOSHNESS IT'S HERE.   I figure it's better for me to vent all my excitement and nostalgia here, because I know I load up my comments with all kinds of it and someone out there has to read it, so instead, I'm organizing my thoughts before I flip the fuck out.  It was October somthin' 2010 when I heard my first Green Day song. I remember that night clearly, considering how long ago it was. At the time, I shared a room with my older sister, younger brother, and her bo

Random Thingy

This is a snippet of one of the many random ass things I'm working on. I felt like sharing this, so here it is. Enjoy, I guess.   She had not seen the sun, the real sun, for years. Her eyes hurt from the sudden burst of light, but she embraced the pain. She basked in the sunlight, coughing from the ash and dust and effort of it all. A shot fired. Lexi turned to the source of the sound, whipping out her gun. She had three bullets left, that was more than enough to deal with whoever

10 Reasons Why Green Day is Awesome as Fuck

Hey all! I wrote my newest article for HerCampus and it is all about Green Day! I would really appreciate it very much if you guys could check it out. If there are any errors in information, please let me know. @Todd luckily corrected a lot for me already. I got some of my info from sources that are not 100% reliable so if I could be corrected, it would be great. I also had a graduate student edit this, so I hope there are no grammatical issues.    http://www.hercampus.com/school/uwind

Newport Music Hall concert review

(This is already posted on GDA with awesome photos by @MooreClick, but I wanted to post it here for those of you who are solely GDCers and for my own easy access. Enjoy! )   After a two-year break from touring, Green Day was clearly itching to get back on the road. And in case anyone doubted it, Billie Joe Armstrong made it known early Monday night at the band’s first promotional show for Revolution Radio, its new album that releases Oct. 7.  “You know what sucks? Views from An Abandoned Room

Views from an Abandoned Room       Shadows circle on the wall over splattered paint, with writings scrawled  in color that bleeds,   I watch drop after drop fall.   I sit alone in this place, this cave, cage.   I suppose now, it’s home.   The air’s paralyzed  as stillness is all it knows. Preparing for Purchasing Tickets: Tips & Tricks

This advice applies to those who are using LiveNation to purchase tickets on their laptop/desktop computer (non mobile device). Here are some things to do to prepare your computer for the fast-paced, adrenaline inducing, quick clicking madness of grabbing some tickets. 1) About 30 to 20 minutes before the tickets go on sale, completely power down all devices and computers that use your wifi internet connection that you will not use to attempt to get tickets. Help out GDC

It's been a while since we've asked for financial help from you guys. While August was a great month for ad revenue, we won't see any of that money till at least October and November. In the meantime, we have our server bills coming up (we haven't had to pay anything for a few months now because our old host got bought by another company and they forced us to switched servers, so they gave us a couple months of free hosting during the summer).  If you can help please click the Donate button
