Brandon Flowers labels the Killers as the best band of the last 15 years

http://musicfeeds.com.au/news/brandon-flowers-reckons-the-killers-are-the-best-band-of-the-last-15-years/ Has this guy not heard of Green Day or American Idiot? That album shits all over anything his band has produced and his band are a decent band. I must admit I was disappointed when I heard this, as I quite like the Killers. Flowers struck me as a reasonably humble bloke before this, now he just comes across as big headed with this comment. What do you guys think?

It's super cocky to say, but I think every band more or less thinks this.

I think the killers were the band to take GD's slot on Ellen when rehab happened. I didn't mind Hot Fuss - it was probably said in jest idk & I don't think every band thinks this way.

Most artists are going to say they are the best it's kind of like sports like when Mayweather said he was better than Ali

It's just his opinion doesn't mean he's right

Also he could mean they're the best band that has started for the last 15 years which would exclude Green Day

He said any band that's come out in the last 15 years and I would have to agree with him to some extent. Hot Fuss is one of the most iconic albums on the indie rock scene in the last 10 years and Sam's Town deserved more recognition.

Brandon likes to blow smoke up his own ass, but I can't think of too many bands that came around in 2004 that are still as relevant as The Killers.

I'm real happy for you, and I'ma let you finish, but Destiny's Child was the greatest band of all time. OF ALL TIME.

They had one good album, one alright album, and a load of shit albums. Overrated. Green Day have had one amazing album, one good album, and three shit albums in the same time frame, still not great.

History will probably tell us that Muse were the best band of the start of the 2000s.

I don't particularly like Brandon Flowers, but I don't know if it was really cocky of him to say that he thinks his band is the best band of the last fifteen years.

If I do recall correctly, I thought I remembered an old Green Day interview from the Dookie Era where Tre says that he thinks Green Day was the best

band from that time (or something along the lines of that statement). I'm not totally sure. Just too lazy to fact check.

What was this dude on?... :ermm: That's a very bold statement to make, every band has it's up's and downs, good songs and bad songs, and sometimes just a plain terrible view on things, this happens to be one of those moments. :P I like a few of their songs, they're a good band. But with all the competition in the last fifteen years, I highly doubt they're the best.

I'm interested in not-mod Mar's take on this, since I'm fairly certain she's a Killers fan... :P

Oh, Brandy.

I think he's just posturing like he has been doing for their entire career. Because even though he says thus, he then says he's been disappointed in TK's recent album (which is where him and I disagree - - I loved Battle Born and I'd much rather get another BB than his new solo album, which I'm not too big a fan of). He's like Billie in that you really can't believe a word he says.

As for the GD/Brandon "feud," Brandon kind of apologized for his comments at TK's Wembley gig and iirc he bought Mike dinner one night when they were at the same restaurant. I highly doubt he said this particular comment as an insult to anyone in particular (Kanye has been his target lately) but, again, it's more of a desperate way to boost his self-esteem because he's insecure. Yes, I'm a stan so I'm biased, but I think he was thinking about his band with these comments, not necessarily trying to discount others. I know it's not easy to believe that

Why is this in the Green Day chat.. It really has nothing to do with them other than them being a band in the same era.. But whatever..

Music is subjective. What makes Brandon Flowers think The Killers are the best band is clearly different from what I would think the qualities of a good band would be. The qualifiers I deem to be important in the music I like may be totally different than what you deem important even though we like the same kind of music.

I would assume that his reasons that he believes the killers are the best band is basically he is in the killers. Not in a cocky I make the best music I am a rock God type of way (I don't really know him as a person so maybe I'm wrong) but because we can assume he has total freedom to make something personal to him, music that speaks to him because it's coming from him. That and he has a fan base that tells him they are the best band etc.

what makes the greatest band to you?

The highest selling? The most hits? The highest paid? - these are quantifiable- you could search this and it clearly won't be The Killers but it won't be Green Day either.

What I believe most people use as qualifiers are things that can't be really measured. Like how the songs make them feel. How the music related to their lives. The emotions that arise when listening to that certain band.

If you are in a band that you are totally committed to then you probably do connect most to your own music because it basically is your life written out in so many words and melodies..

It sounds to me like he used the same PR guy as Noel Gallagher and John Lydon.

Why would the personal opinion of another band´s member about his own band be worth a thread in GD´s chat?

If you looked up shitty music in a dictionary you would just find a photo of the Killers. Terrible music and self righteous twats

You know what else you guys...Zayn totally left One Direction because of his girlfriend like oh my gooooood!

Yoko Ono syndrome strikes again. It's only a matter of time before it happens to Green Day because Lady Cobra went to Gilman duh.

Oh wait...does anyone care about random bands on Green Day forum? Hmm.

You need to recognise sarcasm ;)

I'm obviously aware of the other parts of GDC and "calmly" googled for an amusing story to highlight how dumb posting a random story about Brandon Flowers opinion about his own band in Green Day Chat is. In fact I laughed as I posted it :D

What a ridiculous statement. IMO Slash and the Conspirators are a better band (I tried not to use Green Day) although they definitely aren't the best band in the last 15 years.

A much more sensible suggestion is the Foo Fighters (yes I know they leak into the 90's a bit)

EDIT: I'm illiterate - I hope no one saw my awful spelling

Foo Fighters nor Green Day are bands that fall under Bradon's statement as FF and GD didn't start 15 years ago
