WAUKESHA, Wis. (AP) — Prosecutors say two 12-year-old southeastern Wisconsin girls stabbed their 12-year-old friend nearly to death in the woods to please a mythological creature they learned about online.

Both girls were charged as adults with first-degree attempted homicide Monday in Waukesha County Circuit Court; they each face up to 60 years in prison if convicted. A court commissioner set bail at $500,000 cash per child. According to a criminal complaint, the girls had been planning to kill their friend for months and finally made the attempt in a park on Saturday morning, after a slumber party.

One of the girls told a detective they were trying to become "proxies" of Slender Man, a mythological demon-like character they learned about on creepypasta.wikia.com, a website about horror stories and legends. They planned to run away to the demon's forest mansion after the slaying, the complaint said.

My first reaction is they're not very good at stabbing if after 19 tries she's still alive. 1/10 for execution. Literally.

It's actually surprisingly difficult to kill someone simply by stabbing them. The human body is quite resilient. If you don't hit any major arteries it's possible to survive over 100 wounds.

God made children that way so they're indestructible and never die

Unless he gives them cancer or famine, then they're buggered.

They read about Slender Man on the internet but couldn't look up online to see where the main arteries of the human body were located? Kids these days...

I just hope these kids get the psychological treatment they need, and that their victim makes a full recovery.

Probably not, but this seems like a fairly extreme case.

true, but it would be more helpful anyway to get them some psychological treatment and all rather than putting them in jail for the rest of their lives. But never mind.

Why? They almost killed a person. Would you let a psycho walk around like nothing happened?

I think if someone is fully aware of their actions, they should be tried for their crime as an adult.

Getting them help isn't the same as "letting them walk around like nothing happened". And it's not like they'd get help while being allowed to continue their old lives freely, no matter how they're tried, juvenile or not, they're gonna get some kind of prison sentence. I definitely think getting them psychological help will have a better result for everyone than just incarcerating them til they're 70.

I did not mean that. The fact that it is not gonna help anyone if they are locked in jail till they are over 70, does not mean they should not be imprisoned AT ALL. A combination of some kid of hospitalization or something (not an ordinary jail, anyway) and psychological treatment.
But of course they shall spend sometime in prison or some other closed department like that.

yeah jokes aside i think it's really important that these girls are removed from society and rehabilitated in a safe and sensitive way. they're young enough that they're still emotionally malleable, as it were, and some good and intensive therapy will hopefully go a long way to helping them recover their sensibilities and what have you. obviously this is crazy fucked up, but there are obviously some mitigating factors of which we aren't aware, and with time hopefully the perpetrators will get back to 'normal' and be able to live relatively peaceful lives.

If they do get rehabilitated and return to society, it should be on the condition that if they commit another serious crime, they will be imprisoned for life.

depends on the crime, if it's assult, rape, attepted murder/murder, they WILL be charged as an adult regardless of age... There's exceptions to that. under 10 years old. they will be held in a psychiatric hospital i believe.

yeah i think that's a given tbh. one of the boys who murdered james bulger used to live in the town i grew up in (under a different name, i think, but everyone knew who he was), so i don't see why this situation should be any different.

oh and also - this isn't aimed at you nick i just forgot to mention earlier - can we not with using words like 'psycho' please and thanks.

How is this news and thread-worthy? I mean, who cares what two 12 year old girls did? I dont think anybody here thinks that what they did was right.

Seriously though, that is fucked up. I dont know if rehab will work in this case. What they did is pretty extreme.
