martinkendallwongLast time #bandcalledcalifornia came through SoCal, I saw them three days in a row, culminating in our third #savemusicinchinatown show and they became my new favorite band. Tonight at @theechola Adam, Dustin, and Jason were even better than I remembered. Adam described their sound as "more Big Star than Big Drill Car" but I hear flashes of Tom Petty and The Clash, too. Can't wait to see them again at our seventh DIY all-ages matinee to raise money for the music program at Castelar Elementary... Seeya at the Grand Star on Sunday!

This album is amaze-balls!!! The A-side has a fun, bright, and sunny vibe; the guitars are crisp and punchy; Jason's voice is really cool; the B-side is slower and cool; and the production overall is A-plus!! Bought it on BandCamp 15 minutes after its midnight release 'cause I like it that much! :D

CALIFORNIA TOUR early summer 2016.
5-5-16 1:24 am After a blistering set at LA's Troubadour, Jason discovers during load out that his car has been towed from the affluent neighborhood adjacent to the club. We'll call it Beverly Hills. Somehow the band manages to squeeze all of the equipment and members into Adam's 2003 Volkswagen Jetta. They drive to Hollywood Tow on Highland and proceed to pay the man pictured two hundred and one american dollars to retrieve the car. He was not open to negotiation, regardless of the fact that Jason plays guitar in Green Day, that Adam was in Jawbreaker, and that Dustin minored in religion at a small liberal arts college in Arkansas. And so it begins...

Band called CALIFORNIA

1 hr ·

Just back from the California Micro Mini Tour 2016, which is to say we ate our way through SF, LA and San Diego while sharing the stage with a bunch of great bands. Beach Slang graciously invited us along, put on one hellofa show and even had me up to play JB's shortest song, which I managed to fuck up anyway; Potty Mouth killed every night and made it look easy; Dyke Drama turned up the heat and lit a fire under all of our asses. Upset kicked-off their tour by celebrating Lauren's birthday at Pehrspae; Kitten Forever reminded everyone in the room why we do this in the first place; Mike Watt and The Secondmen inspired everyone to start their own band; Spokenest proved it only takes two; Zander Schloss made his guitar gently weep; Saccharine Trust made poetry and jazz punk rock: George Chen did five minutes of standup before introducing us -- a first!; Steve Ratter spun records between sets like a fucking boss. Thanks to Natalie and Charlie from the Beach Slang camp for all their help; Pauline at Pehrspace for letting us crash the party; Martin, Wendy and Eloise Wong at Save Music In Chinatown for three times the charm.

Long time, no see! That should’ve been our band name.

We are playing a “one-off” rare performance next Tuesday, October 2nd at the beloved, soon-to-be-shuttered Hemlock Tavern in SF. We will bid farewell to one of our favorite places in The City in its last week of operation.

Yes. Yet another one bites the dust. As Robert Zimmerman said, “the times, they are a’ changin’”

Come help us give her a proper send off: A nod to all they provided throughout the years. A small stage for creativity, greatness, failure and ultimately a place for new ideas to develop.

And a cheap beer...

Hope to see you on Tuesday,
JW

P.S. Our good friend Jordan Springman will be joining us again on bass!
