I kinda want the whole Longshot thing to be over now (unless they plan on coming to the UK of course, but I'm not getting my hopes up:cry:). I mean, I love the album, I still listen to it regularly and some of those songs are amongst my favourite of Billie's work, and I've enjoyed seeing footage of the shows and seeing how much fun Billie was having with it, but I'm ready to see what comes next now, whether it be Green Day (the most likely option imo), the AI movie, or maybe even something else that we don't even know about. Of course, that doesn't mean I wouldn't want him to maybe come back to the Longshot in the future, but I just feel like it's getting stale atm and it's time to move on.

I'd say time flies when you're 46 and for him it probably seems like he's barely started... So, cmon, let him have some fun! ;)  You're young (relatively speaking so am I), we can both wait. I think a happy Billie is probably the best possible scenario anyway. He'll get tired from touring with The Longshot naturally at some point. And honestly, when it comes to new Green Day material, I'm willing to wait until 2019. I just hope that management don't f**k up that 3-way anniversary though. They've got to at least do something, like reissue everything on vinyl like they did in 2009 or release box sets with demo tapes, documentaries, live footage, whatever. That's the only expectation that I have at the moment to be honest. But for the time being, Billie and the guys can have a rest, jam or go into the studio, whatever. I'm fine with all of that. I'd like them to take their time, it'll surely be worth it.

Billie seemed so envigorated on the club tour and it gives them a chance to pull out old songs....though I feel like they could that anyway considering their fanbase and their status. But I'm down for more club shows! They're way more fun than the stadium shows.

As long as they play club shows in Europe too, neither do I :P

It was awesome for me to see The Longshot in a small club, and Billie from so close, and I very badly want them to come to Europe so I can see them again. But I understand you @G-L-O-R-I-A, I too want to see what's next. I could wait until 2020 for the next GD album though, and if I get to see Billie with The Longshot again in Europe meanwhile, and if we have news about the AI movie, it would be perfect. Even if it's not the case I know that I can wait the time needed for the next GD album. Also, about the small clubs, I don't have the feeling that Billie is much happier than in big shows. He looks radiant now, but he already did during 2017  where GD only played arenas. I wouldn't say I would like him to play small clubs forever, I feel that mixing that up with arenas as he's always done is the far best. GD coming back on a big world tour with the next album, starting with small clubs as they did for RevRad, continuing with arenas, is what excites me the most. I went to the US to see The Longshot in a small club, I won't be doing such a trip again until GD come back, to see them perform in a small club as well. And then hopefully a few arenas during their Europe tour. :D

Dunno if unpopular, but Insomniac is way too short. I get its a more punk leaning album so songs are maybe 2-2 and a half minutes and such, but the 32 minutes pass by way too fast and it kinda feels like a "Wow this album is gr- oh its already over...." situation. I feel if they added maybe 1-2 more songs or something it wouldnt have that issue.

Well it was released only a year after Dookie. I think after releasing such a massive album, the pressure was on for them to quickly release something else and thus a short album was the result. I'm glad they didn't make it longer tbh cause it'd likely be filler. Maybe 1 or 2 more songs extra would be fine but I think it's good how it is. I've heard shorter albums. Some albums don't even reach the 30 minute mark

Hot take: Green Day have done it all anyway and it would be pretty cool if Billie now focused on Longshot or other projects rather than rehash the same thing over and over with GD.

I mean, I wouldn't mind another FBHT or Network album, but I don't think GD have done it all. They haven't done a polka album :P

I don't think Green Day have done it all already any more than Billie has. It's all his songs, a side project is cool for a change and so things can be done in a low key way when wanted but I don't see what the benefit of not doing future stuff as Green Day would be. If Billie has great new ideas no reason they can't be done with his main band, Green Day doesn't have to be a rehash (and hasn't been as far as I can see - is Rev Rad a rehash?).

Rev Rad isn't exactly a rehash but - as much as I like it - I can't say it's anything new. It seems like he's limited in where he goes with Green Day (the combination of nothing ever being enough and every difference in sound being problematic) and that's why it would be so cool if Longshot continued or he'd do other side projects.

Idk, I mean they're not exactly reinventing the wheel with each album but Rev Rad doesn't sound like pt. 2 of any of their other albums in my opinion. And I'd say the same for the other albums. Each has been familiar enough to fit the catalogue but different enough that they're distinguishable. That said, I love everything about The Longshot so I'm good with him working on either project. Really I just want the guys to continue to be massively successful for their sake and for Billie to continue to write songs for whatever project, but ideally still see him/them/longshot in small clubs regularly :)

Yep, The Longshot to my ears is basically just a slightly altered Trilogy sound, nothing new at all. Green Day haven't even done it all, if they wanted to go a different direction I'm sure they could put out a good hardcore album and I'd much rather that than something that has the same sound as they've had before.

And the trilogy was just an altered Foxboro sound.

If you get down to it every GD album is an altered GD sound though. They have a certain sound that runs through their music. I think the Longshot is pretty different. There's similarities on the main album but I don't think any of the covers or other EP songs sound much like GD. It has its own sound to it just like their other albums and side projects do.

Also I think it sounds more like Rev Rad than the trilogy. That classic rock thing going on. And the trilogy mostly isn't very Foxboro-y, only some of Dos is minimally like it.

I love the Longshot, the music, the band, the energy, the guitar porn, everything, Love is For losers and the demos are all Billie written and as great as a GD album to me.

But when I go see the Longshot, I really go to see Billie; while when I go see Green Day, I go to see Green Day. It's not the same. And as much as I love the sweethearts that seem to be Kev and Dave (in the beginning I didn't love them like that), I keep thinking of our GD trio most of the time these days.

To put it in another thought: if the Longshot never plays again after this tour, I will be sad but no doubt I'll survive as long as Billie's all right. If Green Day never plays again from now on, I'll fall in instant depression, at least be totally heartbroken. Even if Billie continues to do other stuff outside of GD.

Kinda going off that ^^ I’m guessing this is an unpopular opinion but, I enjoy watching Billie on stage with The Longshot guys EQUAL to how much I enjoy watching him with Mike, Tre, and Jason W.  (Leaving off Jeff and JasonF for simplicity).

I enjoy Billie’s interaction with Kevin more than with Mike, but Mike’s more important in terms of his significance with the band.  Jason W. And Jeff are a wash to me in terms of they both are very talented and very boring (sorry guys 😬). Tre’s way more fun to watch/listen to than David but I like David a lot as well. That should give GD the edge but Longshot felt a lot more spontaneous and far less rehearsed so that kinda makes it even for me. (GD is still of course way more important though.)

That’s what makes these side projects special, their spontaneity, their unpredictability, their hit and run quality. I hope he always continues to do side projects for that reason but thinking about it, I agree witb @Kuromignonne when she says if Longshot ended I would get over it but if Green Day ended I would be devastated so that’s the difference between a band you’re in for life and a side project.

But as far as the music is concerned, Billie is at the top of his game right now and so inspired. If he’s putting out songs of this quality for a mere side project, I can’t wait to see what he has in store for Green Day.

Yeah I mean, while I think longshot is basically on par with GD, it would be impossible to match the significance when GD has been around for so long and has so much more music, etc. Also, I assumed from the get go that the longshot would be pretty limited vs GD I assume will keep going as long as they possibly can, and that difference in expectations matters as well. I don’t know if I’ll “get over it” with longshot ending (assuming they never come back) but I can certainly cope better than if GD did, no question. More than anything though, I’m just sad to lose the spontaneity and the close proximity. That was special.

And yes, he’s so on top of his game right now, I agree. Which is insanely exciting for 30 years into their/his career!

In the book I’m reading there’s a quote from Larry Livermore after the Hall of Fame ceremonies and he said that Green Day is one of the few bands inducted that made their best music in this century. That’s true, most bands when they get in are in because their best music was in the 60’s, 70’s, 80’s or 90’s but are either no longer together or their best days are behind them. Not Green Day.
