The Green Day Fangirls' Confessions Thread

Billie is a musician. He writes from the heart, that's not something an artist who only wants awards does. A real musician doesn't make music to make money, they create because they love to. Even if Green Day wasn't making any money off of their work, Billie would still be writing and playing. Most of us probably wouldn't know his name, but it wouldn't stop him.

Yeah, he would be a bit like Dookiefied!

I just hate that people assume Musicians are only in it to get rich, you shouldn't be playing if that's your only goal.

Well, you must pay your bills somehow. And if you can do it by doing what you love most - why not?

If you're paying bills by doing what you love most, it's not really doing it just for the money. I can't stand musicians who treat their fans like shit, and act like the only thing that matters is how much cash they can pocket. Especially when their music isn't really that good.

Well I've never purchased anything from a baker as I love to bake and I love doing my own baking.

But you might have bought the ingrediences from someone who sells you all these things... maybe he´s doing it just for fun or for the money, who knows. Could as well be a punk seller in his heart. ;) Yesterday I watched a documentary about a butcher who really was a rocker at heart (and he looked like one). He is devoted to meat (really!), and it´s all he ever wanted to do: being a butcher with all his heart. I found it totally amazing, and he was an artist in his way, always thinking about meat creations, even in his holidays. I love it, when people do things with all their heart. No matter, what. Wished, I could say it about me. I work mainly for the money, though my job is a rather nice one. I don´t have this fire in me, but still have to pay my bills...

No....my baker is pretty crusty!

What about the rolls...? :)

Eternity Ragnarok, I'm an obsession recoveree who ended up being just a regular huge fan (and on top of this, I got promoted in some way); so if you would post in the thread Kay (Lady Nightlife) mentioned, perhaps I could share some of my experiences?!
Shit, I still need to reply to other stuff in that thread. So slow these days. >_<

Right there with you. It's crazy how much life can just slow everything down :/

On that topic, I was talking with someone about my level of fan-feels for Green Day right now, and I was wondering if anyone else is on the same page as me.

First off, I feel like I'm wayyy less of a fan these days than I ever was before. I think it's the combination of the fact that Green Day is M.I.A., the Trilogy was a flop, and my continued involvement on GDC. There's really nothing for me to do here at this point other than endlessly talk about how nothing's happening, and endlessly critique all of Green Day's music from start to finish.

Second, I feel like my enjoyment of shows themselves has gone down the tubes a bit. I realized that I attend as many shows as I can because I'm trying to re-capture the high of my first show, which is obviously never going to happen. I've had so many GD-related experiences which would make any fan jealous, but none of them quite stack up to that first time I saw them. However, I still compulsively feel like I need to attend a lot of Green Day shows, to the point where even now, with no news on the horizon I'm saving up money so that the next time tours are announced I can go a lot of times. Sure, I enjoy meeting fans, I enjoy queuing, I enjoy hearing the music and being immersed in the experience, but I always feel a bit let-down because it never is a repeat of that first show.

I'm rambling now, but is anyone identifying with these feelings?

I can definitely relate to these feelings. Sometimes I just make myself take a little break for a few days from GDC, as well as listening to GD music. Without fail, I'll catch the end of a song on the radio or somewhere, and then I smile to myself and jump right back in.....

I agree that, as with a lot of things in life, you can never recapture the extreme emotions of your first GD concert. -remember the almost orgasmic happiness of realizing that they actually exist , and that they are right there in front of you... The next time I see them, my plan is to find a happy place either at the back of the floor or -the horror- actually one or two rows up in the seats. Then I should be able to jump and sing my little heart out without fear of imminent death by suffocation or battering! Also, instead of an overwhelming wall of sound, I may be able to actually hear and enjoy the songs themselves. Or so is my plan anyway.

I think that even though I follow the unpopular opinions thread too, that constantly discussing/analyzing/arguing about the band and their music can be quite exhausting and numbing. I don't actually comment in that thread very much, partially because I don't want to spend my energy defending my opinions, and partially because I am generally a positive person. Hmmm..... Maybe I should stop lurking there altogether....

Anyways, speaking of rambling..... hang in there, and remember that the whole point is to let the music speak to you and elevate your spirit!

GDC ruined Green Day for me. It's really sad actually.

Fans always drop off after the touring ends for each album. That's how its been since we first started this place. Then when they announce a new album some come back and some new ones join. It's also really exciting with that build-up and the subsequent media stuff. We missed all the fun promotional stuff during the trilogy because of Billie's rehab, so that sucked a lot of fun out it.

I feel like we should have done more during the tour to encourage fans to meet-up at each show. That was a big part of GDC and GDA during American Idiot and 21st Century Breakdown. I didn't plan or follow-through with any plans like that the last tour. It's definitely on my mind for the next tour.

That stuff is hella scary.

Some of the best part of the tour is meeting other fans, for sure. Part of the reason I'm sticking around GDC is to maintain relationships and build new ones so that the next time the band tours the tour experience will be more meaningful for me.

The only reason I'm on GDC is to make friends around the states so whenever I decide to follow the band on tour I have places to stay. :P
