Well it's the oscars fairly soon (24th Feb). Who do you reckon will be the winners and the losers? Who deserves to win?

I want to see Les Mis win Best Picture (obv.) but I'm reckoning it could be Lincoln or Argo. The thing is though, pretty much every nom for Best Picture is an amazing film, it's not like this year there is a clear frontrunner...

Thoughts?

And in order to satisfy the idiot underneath me, please explain your choice.

I want Lincoln to win, it is such a great movie! I don't even know what to say about it! It was just perfect!

Best laugh I've had in a while, cheers :P

Well, Lincoln was an overrated pile of shite, so I don't want that winning anything. The Hobbit will probably get Visual Effects, Skyfall should pick up a few too.

At the end of the day, the Oscars are kinda pointless. Watch whatever movies you want, and if you think they're good, they're good.

Yeah but it is nice to see some official recognition as it were. And for all those involved in the film industry it's a big deal.

Fair enough it's a big deal for them, but it shouldn't really be for anyone else. You don't see the newspapers going nuts everytime there's an award ceremony for builders, for example :P

I think Daniel Day Lewis will win for Best actor, he was fantastic. In general, I'm hoping for Django Unchained to win a lot, it was one of my favorites of 2012

I'd really love to see Jennifer Lawrence win best actress for Silver Linings Playbook. SLP was one of my favourite movies, if not my favourite in 2012 and she was great in it. She won best actress for it at the Golden Globes so I think she has a fair shot. I'd also like to see that win best picture but I think either Zero Dark Thirty or Les Mis will take that title.

I would like Les Misérables, Skyfall and the Hobbit to win some award.

I didn't see Django and Lincoln, but I know a few people who has seen them and said that both are great films.

Did anyone see that short that was nominated? Paperman? It was so sweet! I hope it gets something.
Lincoln was excellent and I have to say I'd prefer it over Le Mis. I didn't see Argo, but I heard it was really good and that Flight was as well. I don't even know if that one was nominated for anything, though.

There's alot of nominated films I haven't seen yet, but I really want to. Especially Silver Linings Playbook and Argo.

I think Daniel Day Lewis will win as best actor since he won the Golden Globe, and roles like that usually win.

I'm just excited to watch the show, I'm a sucker for awards shows and seeing the dresses on the red carpet. Hope Seth MacFarlane does a good job, he seems like a weird fit.

Top 3 movies:

Les Miserables.

Django.

Life of Pi.

Les Mis is wonderful, even though there will never be a movie that will express the beauty of the book, they did an amazing job with this one.

Django, flawless action movie.

Life of Pi, I didn't have high expectations for this one, but it blew me away.

I downloaded Lincoln a long time ago but I haven't watched it yet. I'm sure it's good though, I love Sally Field.

I looooooooved Silver Linings Playbook, I thought it was really cute and funny and I've already watched it twice but I don't think it's really "Oscar Material". But maybe that's just me.

I can't see the Hobbit winning much yet. It might pick up some after the final release.

Really?  I think, or maybe hoping, he'll be good.  He's naturally funny and not usually mean and did take some advice from Billy Crystal.  Hubby and mom keep asking me, though, what's he been in?  So I'm guessing he's not THAT well known.

Seth is quite charming and funny, despite some awful material on Family Guy (though I suppose it doesn't count, since he doesn't actually write any episodes anymore, so it's not his fault, heh) so I think he'll make a good host, frankly. However, it'll do extreme things to his ego.
