I am shocked and angry to hear the latest news from Russia. A new law punishing people for being homosexual. They are banned from public life. It´s forbidden to show the rainbow symbol flag in public. It´s forbidden to talk about homosexuality in public. Any public appearance is forbidden, even holding hands is forbidden by law.

It´s unbelievable, this is a huge step away from modern Europe back to the dark ages. I would even call it a step to Hitlerism... (this is a disgusting term and I apologize...)

Who will stop this insanity...?!

My thoughts go out to all the people who love and get punished for it...

Can't say I'm even the tiniest bit surprised, as awful as it is. Russia is barely even a First World country these days. It's run by a corrupt megalomaniac who's pastimes include karate chopping tigers for PR shots, and an established clergy that are so far up their own arses they came out in the 12th century.

After the Pussy Riot debacle, this was inevitable.

Yes, you´re right, it didn´t really surprise me, too. It just makes me... so sad... and it´s frightening at the same time. The bastard is capable of anything... and simple minds believe in this law and call homosexuals a danger to the Russian social system...  it´s so sick...

Wow, this sucks. I've just read that "the law will protect children against 'homosexual propaganda' in the media and at public events"...what? Are we in the Middle ages?!

Just means changing one evil against another, in my opinion.

Don´t know. It´s only a minority in the cities that raises it´s voice. People in the countryside might not even care or maybe they agree with the law. Russia is such a big country, I think it takes a subject concerning everybody to create a revolution. Homosexuals are just a small minority, so I don´t think this will burn this huge, orthodox country.

... such as hobbits...

I really don´t know much about Russia or Russian politics. But to me Putin is a liar, a betrayer, and a dictator, who´s tiny mind is longing for supreme power.

Russia right now is a fascist state.Just look at the percentages of neo-Nazi groups in this country.

Still does.

I don't think communism was the privilege of Stalin.
Besides, I'm not sure whether communism was ever implemented.
Stalin betrayed communists and communism...

People are gay. I'm one of them. I'm not abnormal. I wake up in the morning, go to school, listen to music, and hangout with friends. Just the idea that people like me on the other side of the world are being banned from the public's eye because of what they happen to be attracted to sickens me. I bet most of the LGBTQ community in Russia are just regular people. They didn't do anything wrong.

This is disgusting. I can't explain how angry and disappointed I am about this.

I will never go to Russia.

I was reading a news article on this, and it turns out that its only gay "propaganda" that is being banned, not being gay itself. So whilst its still ridiculous, it's not as bad as what everyone here is saying. Oh, and kissing in public is banned. So yeah, this is actually really shit.

Well, from a logical standpoint you couldn't ban gays anyway because 10% of the population is homosexual.

Banning "gay propaganda" is still a problem, even if it is better than "Hey, you're gay? What the fuck is wrong with you, that's illegal."

That is absolutely horrible and disgusting! I thought we were all trying to make homosexuality seen as perfectly normal, and not wrong. Russia is doing the exact opposite. It shouldn't be illegal to be the person you are.

Oh come on! Really? 18 people here, who've never been in Russia sitting and calling it a middle age country based on some article in the internet. Are you fucking kidding me? You can't trust mass media these days, they only tell you what they want you to think. And LazyPhil, very nice of you to say from all Polish people that you don't like us, I'm flattered. Too bad that here in Russia we don't have such prejudices about Polish people. Sorry for this rant.

Just to make things clear: I don't like Putin. I was pissed off when the whole Pussy Riot thing happend. Lots of bullshit happening here right now and Russia isn't the most homo-friendly country for sure. This law is not against gay people, it's against gay propaganda  for children. Government doesn't give a shit if you are gay. You can hold hands in public. You can wear rainbow symbols or anything else. But you can't come to school and tell 13-year old children that being gay is good etc. I'm not saying that this is a good law but it's totally not as bad as everyone here seems to think. Sorry for this rant again, and please check facts before you judge.

He did in 33 to increase birthrate. He also made abortion illegal.
Homosexuality was punished with 5 years hard labor.

Sorry for this rant again, and please check facts before you judge.

Thanks for your statement! But how do you judge the world? By visiting every country yourself to find out whether news are true or not? What are your sources of truth and news?

The news in Germany - not yellow press, but news that I would call serious - tell us, that showing the rainbow flag is forbidden, kissing and holding hands in public is forbidden. Propaganda (whatever this means) is forbidden, public appearance (like parties, demos etc) is forbidden ("for the next 100 years" the news said). Filmed documents show that gays, who protested againts the law,  were beaten, and police arrested the gays, not the attackers. Well, yes, it could all be manipulated material. But how then can I find out the truth?

Whom do you believe? And whom do I believe? You say we can´t trust mass media. This is probably right. But then - were do you get your information that this law is not against gay people. Isn´t it a matter of who´s propaganda works better...?

And when a Russian politician states that being gay is a matter of education I can´t help but believe that some people really miss the point...

And I want to make clear that it´s not my intention to blame or insult the Russian people generally. So I am sorry when I didn´t find the right words to express my thoughts and feelings and you felt hurt. It´s the politics that I blame. And I can only judge it by what I know from the news, because I don´t know the exact wording of the law.
