backstagepasses

You can't really ask for them. You sorta just have to have them come to you. You need connections basically. Either that or you can warm up to security guards. Make friends with security and sometimes they'll let you in the back. :)

Flash your tits. That'll get their attention.
What if I don't have tits? How do you tell if the security guards are gay/like teenage boys?

And then what do you do once you get back?

I would love to get a backstage pass to a Green Day concert someday! That would be amazing! But more than that I would love to just hang out with the band members sometime. I could show them around my city. I wonder if fans are even allowed/given the opportunity to do that.

Unfortunately Green Day doesn't really have a way to get backstage passes. They will sometimes have contests with local radio stations in the town they're playing in or special contests for a handful of shows for fans to try and get in. Your best bet would be to talk to the venue and ask for any direction on how it might be possible to get one.

Backstage passes don't mean you'll automatically meet the band btw...

Depends on how you procure them..

Yeah, how do you get in to see the soundcheck? Soundchecks are always rare and awesome songs. Sassafras Roots, Shoplifter, Android, At the Library, Misery, Having a Blast, One for the Razorbacks, American Eulogy... Etc

Years ago I got a backstage pass for a festival through connections. I saw Tina Turner and Joe Cocker and Chris de Burgh and John Farnham and others pass me by. But no chance to hang around with them (well, I wouldn´t have done anyway). Actually, they probably wanted to be left alone, preparing for their show and then walk away to their trailers. Some of them were escorted by bodyguards, some even were driven to the stage by car (100 meters way from the camp). Even backstage it´s not easy fot them to keep their privacy.

I came to know a singer/musician, who was quite famous in the north of Germany. Became a big fan, writing letters, and that´s when his management invited me backstage. We met every now and again over the following years, even private, and I met him many times backstage. But it was a "man´s world". No chance for a woman to enter this world...

That sounds awesome. Highlights my point that going backstage /= hanging with the artist, as many think.

Artists tend to stay in their dressing rooms, or even leave the venue after soundcheck, not returning until minutes before they're due on. Then after the show its a quick exit before the crowds mass exit! Unless you have connections who are close with the band themselves, or win a competition, then the chance of meeting them at a show may be slim!

Soundchecks are generally closed invite events.. again you'd need good contacts or to win a competition..

Entrance to soundcheck does not mean you will get backstage... and backstage passes for the show does not necessarily mean you will get to be at the soundcheck (usually in the afternoon)!

I won a soundcheck pass from the local radio in 2009, you just have to keep informed on contests like that around the area your show is going to take place! They might do contests like that, or not. I don't know how this tour is going to be, in these terms.

Sneak backstage. I once did that at a gig from The Blackout... security sucked over there. We walked in and out of the backstage the whole night, and no one asked us anything, and we didn't even have a pass... I also did that at a local festival a few years ago, and my friend and I talked to the band we wanted to meet. We got thrown out of the backstage area after 10 minutes, but we were still allowed to stay at the festival. We didn't really care, cause we got what we came for.
But I assume the security will be a bit better at Green Day show. :P

I remember that my backstage pass e.g did give me only access at certain times and for certain locations. It wasn´t a general backstage pass. So I wasn´t allowed to move freely over the place, especially not the area of the stars. I worked for the catering, but many of the stars would eat somewhere else. Nevertheless it was a fantastic adventure for me that I keep in my memory for the rest of my life.

Well, the way I got into the venue was an adventure in itself. I arrived with my suitcase, the gates were still closed. The person I should have met was nowhere around. In worst case I must have travelled back home again... means about 800 km... One of the roadies saw me standing outside the gate, quite helpless. He asked me why I was standing there. I told him I was waiting for a friend from the catering, because I was going to work with her. He left me and looked for the person inside the building, but couldn´t find her. He came back and told me. Then he poroposed that I should climb over the fence... I doubted whether he really meant it. We didn´t know each other and I could have been anyone pretending to work for the catering. But he insisted. So I gave him my luggage, and he helped my climb over the fence. That´s how I entered the backstage area. Very strange experience...

Well, I appreciated it. ´cause I was standing next to the stage, could still see the band, and I had all the area for dancing. Great!
