Anja Posted January 13, 2013 Share Posted January 13, 2013 Usually when lyrics are translated, they are re-written entirely in order to maintain aesthetic value. Look at the English version of Dragostea Din Tei - nothing like the original. That's exactly the case with poems as well. I read Edgar Allan Poe in English and a few months back I looked up some of his poems in German and although they sounded really good, they just had a different vibe to it because so many things were changed to adjust it to the language. That's why I don't like translated lyrics. They're often translated wrong and don't make sense. And I actually am a (not-quite-yet-professional) translator so I know what I'm talking about. I often think if certain bands I listen to (American bands, that is) would sing the exact content in my language, I wouldn't be a fan. I mean, GD songs like those off the first two albums, I blast them out really loudly but if they were actually in my language, I don't think it would have the same feel to it and I would probably be slightly embarrassed. My urdu isn't fantastic, so forgive me hindi/urdu speakers if you notice any glaring mistakes. It's not a word for word translation but it's close enough. Meh aqliyat bana jaata hoo, (I want to be the minority) Mujeh thumhara akthiyaar nai chaiyeh, (I don't need your authority) Ucha bara adad ko dafaa kuro (get rid of the good majority) Isleeya meh aqliyat bana jaata hoo.
