I just saw Les Misérables today and thought it was really good. I probably won't see it again, but I definitely liked it. Every member of the cast did an excellent job, especially Anne Hathaway and Hugh Jackman. The music and visuals were great, but overall the movie was a bit long and all the dialogue was sung instead of spoken, which is a very traditional operatic style, but I've never liked that very much. There were also too many close ups used for my taste and the camera would just stick on a person for an entire song and nothing would really be advancing the story during that time.
So those are my thoughts. What do all of you think about it?

AARON TVEIT.

THAT'S ALL.

No, in all seriousness it was a beautiful and wonderful rendition. I loved how they tried to be more faithful to the novel. It's cliche, but I Dreamed a Dream is still my favorite song. Mostly because that's the moment when I absolutely lose it. Samantha Barks is my new queen. And Anne was fantastic.

I could be wrong, but I believe the camera close-ups were to bring light to the fact that thewhile story itself is huge and revolves around so many characters, it's still incredibly intimate in the way the events affect the individual characters. If that makes sense to anyone besides me? Also it's all the more impressive because the music is all sung live on film. With most musicals, the actors lip synch and then the music tracks are overlaid in post production. But that was pushed aside for this version, because the director wanted live singing. This cast was doing many many takes of each song, and they all sound wonderful (Russell Crowe was a bit weak, but he's not a theatre actor so I've got to cut him some slack). So props are very much needed there.

i enjoyed the movie, but 80% of the cast were not good singers honestly. Russel Crow was pitiful

I haven't seen it yet, but I'm sure that they're going for more emotionally-charged vocal performances rather than pitch-perfect. But yes, regardless of what kind of vocal performances they were aiming to get, Russell Crowe (from what I've heard of him on the soundtrack) sucks major balls.

yeah thats very true. I just wish they cast actors off Broadway instead of knowns for star power. The women who played eponine was from the actual musical and she was brilliant.

The book is one of my favourite books ever. I might give it a try because I'm not really into musical films.

I totally agree with you there! She was definitely my favorite singer in the movie (and the prettiest). Absolutely stunning performance!

Saw it performed at the Playhouse Theatre in Edinburgh. It was absolutely magical. The movie looks amazing; just need to gather some friends who are just as interested (shouldn't be hard).

EVERYONE YOU LOVE DIES

No but, I've been a fan of Les Miserables for a couple of years. My friend was in a school production and she gave me the 10th anniversary concert to watch and I loved it. Then I watched the 25th (Which to be honest, I wasn't a big fan of Nick Jonas as Marius. I mean he was good but, I thought he could have been just a bit more better/emotional). And I've seen the movie two times already and I cried both times.

And Eddie Redmayne and Aaron Tveit are slowly taking over my life.

Les Misérables IM SORRY

Haven't gone to see it yet, want to though. I've never actually been to the musical and I couldn't name any songs, nor do I know the story, but I'm pretty sure that if I heard the songs I'd recognize a fair few of them (that's what you get with a mom who loves and does musicals, haha). And it sounds like such an epic musical.

Just saw it last night. Absolutely brilliant. My friends really weren't too keen on Hugh Jackman as Valjean, but I don't think he was that bad. Russell Crowe was kinda meh though.

I also happened upon this today
