It's that time of year again, endless lists and debates on whether something was the 33rd best or 34th best of the year.

I always end up listening to the best albums of the previous year till well into the next year, I find a lot of recommendations from these lists. I didn't listen to too many this year and I would only say I really loved the first four.

1. The Gaslight Anthem - Handwritten

2. Frank Ocean - Channel Orange

3. Lana Del Rey - Born To Die/Paradise

4. Japandroids - Celebration Rock

5. Jack White - Blunderbuss

6. Richard Hawley - Standing At The Sky's Edge

7. Green Day - Dos

8. Tame Impala - Lonerism

9. Childish Gambino - Black Faces

10. Sharks - No Gods

Song of the year is of course Arctic Monkeys - R U Mine?

I'd like to throw in The Maccabees' Given To The Wild in. Other than that I don't think I've listened to any particularly stellar 2012 releases. So I guess Dos! would be my AOTY. Hmm.

I've not listened to much new music this year. Over all I've spent a lot of the year listening to a lot of 90's music and delving into the back catalogues of bands I already like. That being said, these are my top picks of the year in no particular order:

Jack White - Blunderbuss

The Smashing Pumpkins - Oceania

Marina & The Diamonds - Electra Heart

Foxes - Warrior EP

Baby - Tribes

Policia - Give You The Ghost

Green Day - Uno!

Oberhofer - Time Capsules II

The 1975 - Sex and Facedown EPs

Tribes - Baby

For me 2012 has been a very good singles year, not so good for entire albums.

Apart from the trilogy, Linkin Park's Living Things is the only other new album I loved this year. Hate Linkin Park all you want for experimenting with their sound, their last two albums have been great in their own way.

¡Uno! by Green Day (p. obvious) and Take Me Home by One Direction (shut up)

for the rest this year hasn't really been my year for listening to new music because my iPod's bust so i didn't see the point of keeping up with music until I got a new one but I've heard Lana Del Rey's Born To Die is really good, and also Marina & the Diamond's album.

Top 10:

Green Day - Tre

The Menzingers - On The Impossible Past

The Gaslight Anthem - Handwritten

Yellowcard - Southern Air

Hostage Calm - Please Remain Calm

I still listen to The Wonder Years - Suburbia I've Given You All And Now I'm Nothing, which was my AOTY last year, more than just about anything that came out this year. And the deluxe edition of that came out this year and it's perfect.

I know Jack White's album is on a lot of these list and I do like it alot, but I feel now it's getting a little overrated. The album's not bad but honestly I haven't listened to it the whole through since I got it unlike other albums. Otherwise, I don't really think there's one album that I think was better than all the rest this year...of course GD's trilogy was kick ass...so i guess my vote goes to that.

But for most underrated album of the year I 'd give that to Marilyn Manson's Born Villain. That album is amazing and it totally redeems him, yet no one paid attention to it.
