The joys of parenting a 14yo Green Day nut;

Early evening I gave her a first playthrough of Tre (main system, amp and proper speakers) - her face was a picture when Mike exchanged lead with Billie and during The Forgotten she is fingering the piano chords (which I forgot, excuse the pun) she learnt for her music class.

Later at Panto (she is in a local production) someone accused her of being a drama queen (what my little girl :eyebrows: ) so she started singing it :D.

And then to wake us up this morning... X-Kid thanks to her ipod alarm clock.

I don't think Jingle Bells is going to get a look-in this year.

Her view: Tre>Uno>Dos

Your daughter has fine taste, sir!

And I think my dad probably thought the same of me 8 years ago when American Idiot came out! :D

No shit!! I gotta go check that out.

As a musican I want to respond to that. Other musicans or guitarist here will confirm this. I will try to be easy to understand, but when you write a song you have the choice of the first chord, the choice for the second chord and another choice of the third chord. Think of the machines in a casino, even if there's plenty pictures, you fall often on the same combinaison.

At the point where we are in music creation, everything has already been done. Almost.

So, find similarity is not a proof of a rip off is just the law of the music.

(and yeah some artist just stole ideas but it's another debate)

For the record : Legally, you have the right to take the same chords of any song for your own song. It's call plagiarism if the melody is the same. Here's an interesting point to know I think.

So the melody matter, not the chords pregression (and thankfully otherwise there's no music)

I don't understand people's gripe with 99 Revolutions. Sure, it's a little bland and generic, but it's damn catchy. Verse melody is good.

Seconded. It'd make a good single, along with Missing You and X-Kid.

Exactly. You're right, there's only a certain amount of chord progressions that sound good. And when you right 37 songs, or over 200 in your career, of course there's going to be overlap. But there's ways to mix it up, like changing the key, the rhythm, the genre, and the tone. And Green Day always do this. So I'm okay with a little repetition.

Don't like it, I take it? Why? Just curious, not criticizing you.

I'm not a fan of 99 because it's just another kye to me. I don't mind repetition, but only to a certain extent.

It just doesn't speak to me like some other songs.

It's not comparable, it's just on the same level in terms of qualities. but I'd definitely pick Missing you out of the three.

For me Missing You is an instant classic. Tré sounds like he's having the most fun he's had since Insomniac, and you can tell it's just one of those songs that'd be an absolute blast live. I guess everyone has their opinions, but for me it's a much better song.

I love how Billie uses his voice so differently on every album of this trilogy. On Uno his voice is sweet, on Dos his voice is so raw and angry (of course not in SYT, Stray Heart and Amy) and on Tré his vocals are powerful and beautiful.

And his singing on Tre is the best I've ever heard from him. Brutal Love and Drama Queen are just wow. Like someone said yesterday, it could be because he had some lessons during the musical.

Yeah I agree with you completely. And that's what I've heard too. That Broadway visit was good thing for his singing style. :)

Makes me wonder how they're gonna do this live. They've got 30 songs to pick from the trilogy, on top of the classics they already play! I wonder if they're gonna play a decent amount of UDT songs and stop playing others, or just pick a couple of good ones. It seems a shame either way, because all the material is good!

If they cut out everything from their setlist, they could potentially manage to play a 37-song setlist. Of course this is incredibly unlikely, but it's feasible and I wouldn't be too surprised.

I'd probably collapse and die from exhaustion, but man, it'd be the best way to go.

Well, nothing stands out yet, but that isn't because it's bad. I think I'll just need some more time with it. Nothing's jarringly "no" to me like a lot of Dos was, though, so that's fine with me!

Also, 24 hours after the first listen, I still love this album so much. Gonna be a Green Day classic for sure. Maybe not in an American Idiot or Dookie way, but a Nimrod or Warning way for sure.

I'm scared to listen to it, in a way. Was not impressed with Dos at all, I've heard the first bit of Dirty Rotten Bastards and don't like it. Been told I wont like the rest of it
