I guess my nights are so cheap because I pretty much only drink or go out at my rowing club, where beer's 1,20. So assuming everyone gives an equal amount of rounds end you end up paying give or take as much as you'd have paid had you bought all your own drinks, you wouldn't even get to 20 a night.

Yeah my nights out in leiden were never more than 20 euros. Tbf last night was only about a tenner. Found two quid on the floor so that was a free double. Wonderful.

After the last few times, I think I'm done drinking for a while.

I was aiming not to drink until Christmas, seeing as all the delicious Christmas drinks & vat loads of mulled wine definitely contribute to my putting on a bit of weight around Christmas, but it's so hard! I keep being invited to events with free drinks, and let's face it mulled wine & cider are just so damn good. I think I'm just going to try and drink less rather than cut it out all together but ugh it's so tempting.

Yeah, mulled wine is awesome. Already had some at the Christmas market yesterday and as it looks I'll go there at least once a week until Christmas, so go figure. Also tried hot chocolate with amaretto yesterday and it was so delicious.

I don't like wine and I don't like hot drinks, so mulled wine is never gonna be a good thing for me

Mmm yeah alcoholic hot chocolate is amazing, and I don't even like hot chocolate that much  I usually put whisky in it, so good. We have a German Christmas market here but the mulled wine is just extortionate, which I guess is a good thing when I'm trying not to drink but otherwise it's annoying.

Shawn's getting me MD today, this should be fun.

Also I'd like to vent my frustrations over not being 21 yet. This is bullshit, Shawn running all over the place. When I'm 21 I'm raiding the liquor stores.

(Also save any "then don't drink???" posts cuz lol that's not happening now)

How much is it? I paid 2,50€ for one cup yesterday which I thought was quite okay.

Haha, I once went to a "German Christmas market" in London and it was hilarious, nothing like an actual Christmas market over here.

Pick 2.

That stuff and Boonsfarm sits like a damn rock in my stomach. It looks pretty, tastes decent, but God damn. You have to drink a gas tank load to get drunk and, by that time, you're so full you don't want to move.

Guess my low tolerance helps then  I'm just trying it cuz it's cheap.

Also, I've noticed I seem to get drunker in group settings than i do when I'm at home with just Shawn. Odd.

It's £4-5 here for a really small cup. Yeah I imagine it's nothing like it, the one here used to be quite good and it was actually people from Germany came over so it was quite genuine & traditional, then some massive company bought it over & it's totally commercialised now :(

Mulled wine is the one. Last year of uni we made our own big vat of it, but there is a great cafe that does the best stuff I've ever had in Canterbury. They do amazing mulled cider too. Now I want some. Damn.

Yeah, the one in London was totally commercialised too. It had carousels and loud music and it was more like a fun fair than a Christmas markets. Over here, they are very snugly and there's just a bit of Christmas music playing.

The only warm wine I've ever had is a cheap one here called Witches Brew. Couldn't do it. Wine is meant to be room temperature for me — not too cold, not too hot.

How similar is mulled wine to sake? Sake is one of things - like tea, coffee, milk - that has to be served either warm, cold or not at all.

Also, this reminds me of the "Nogasake Bomb." Equal parts sake and eggnog.

Now I'm at work, thinking about drinking things with politically incorrect titles.

I've never head Sake, but I think they're very different. Mulled wine is more like sweet red wine with some spices (cinnamon, cloves and some more). It's also fruity, but not as much as normal red wine.

It depends though, I mean I just make it myself and add spices to any red wine - usually something quite full bodied & fruity but anything works really. If you want you can dilute it or add sugar to make it a bit sweeter but it's just personal preference really.

Man this chat has made me really want some now.

Agreed

Sake is like a Japanese rice wine of sorts isn't it? And mulled wine is spiced wine like Juliette said..

I have a full bottle of it in my kitchen. :ninja: I never make it myself, haha. Way too much effort, plus the one you can buy is even cheaper than buying a bottle of normal wine.

Every time I make a curry with cloves in, it makes me think of mulled wine. I always load mine with cloves.

Finally tried Mad Dog. Tastes like turpentine, smells like eraser shavings, the aftertaste is similar to that of burnt tires, and I'm pretty sure it just burned my upper lip off.

I love it.

After my lecture today I went to the pub with my friends from my course, had nothing to eat since breakfast so two pints got me pleasantly inebriated and then we played pool and it was so lovely. Then I made a gingerbread house and mate I was so wobbly. But the house looked cute as hell.
