'Pregnancy Begins 2 Weeks Before Conception' Now Law In Arizona

"Orwellianly-named", I like that. I always have to think of 1984's "Ministery of Peace" that is actually the "Ministery of War", when I read about pathetic attempts of politicians to name laws and such in a way, that the public won't notice the true purpose. As if we were all dumb.

No offense to Americans, but sometimes it's a wonder for me how the same country where these laws exhist is a developed country and such a strong economy power.

Well America is a huge country, and some states are, to put it bluntly, more civilized than others. Our status as a superpower really isn't inhibited by anyone's local stupidity.

This happens so often. For example, the "Protect Children From Internet Pornographers" act which has nothing to do with children or porn and is all about controlling the internet just like SOPA intended.

That, or authoritarian actions like this are crammed into normal bills, like how the "indefinite detention" clause was allowed in the NDAA, so if someone speaks out against it their opponents reply "Oh, I guess you didn't want our military to be funded this year!"

Well since according to this I'm technically pregnant, I guess I can now start choosing names. Any suggestions?

Muhammad Lenin for a boy, or if its a girl, you can choose between naming her Margaret Sanger or Emma Goldman, either way, it maximizes upsetting conservatives.

Darn. Well, good luck to all those hoping to exploit the "perpetually pregnant/maternity leave" scandal. If it works call me.

In other news, this is why i bought a Banned book several years ago that basically describes ways to terminate pregnancy other than abortion. It came out in the 70's/80's i think. I believe it's called "A woman's book of choices."

(yes, there are ways. i'm not going to tell you on here. none of them are awesome or 100% effective and a modern abortion is still safest, but i'm prepared for the de-evolution of america.)

anyways- interesting book. Always read banned books if you get a chance. And apparently I too could be pregnant right now. humph.

I'm going to make myself sound incredibly stupid here, but what exactly are the connotations with those names?

I was going to reply to this thread in an intelligent sort of way, but my jimmies are in too much of a fucking rustle to manage anything other than profanity ATM.

Seriously though. I can't believe that law was signed in by a woman. What a sad, closed-minded upbringing she must have had.

And does that now mean that a woman's gestation period is now 9.5 months? Because there's a lot of textbooks needing changing if that's the case.

Conservatives often are bigoted against Muslims, so Muhammed, and paranoid about communists, so Lenin.

Margaret Sanger was the founder of Planned Parenthood and Emma Goldman was a radical feminist and anarchist.

I see. You're counting the days in your cycle as part of the pregnancy (as in the days leading up to ovulation and fertilization.)

BUT- the egg isn't fertilized yet!

Either way- these people in arizona are just trying to clamp down on what women can do with their bodies and it's just ridiculous.

A girl is now legally considered pregnant in the state of Arizona two weeks before conception of the baby. Basically, she's pregnant before she has sex. It makes no sense at all.

Riiight. Thanks.

Well apparently I got it right. It was just that fucked up it didn't make sense.

I guess this is good for those people who like to have a guaranteed seat on the bus.

Otherwise, completely ridiculous.

I'm sorry, but I don't believe any of that crap. Two weeks before you conceive you're still part of your menstrual cycle. Pregnancy starts at conception. That is just dumb.

Question ... if I move to Arizona, could I get WIC benefits each time that two week window pops up? Gov. Brewer, I don't know if I'm gonna have sex with anyone and get pregnant in that time frame, but you seem to think I'm already expecting. So, I want all the benefits available to me courtesy of your great state. If there's gonna be any teat sucking here, it's gonna be ME sucking the state's teat.

Fuck you.

WHAT IS THIS I DON'T EVEN. What the actual fuck. So a woman is pregnant BEFORE her egg is fertilized? Before she's even had sex? By this logic it's possible for women to be pregnant virgins. The stupidity here is just off the charts.

So curious, if I don't fertilize my egg and it gets flushed out....and since I'm already considered pregnant...did I just have an abortion?

By this logic, I think under their new law there are now more abortions than before. :o

In all seriousness, this is one of the stupidest things I have ever heard.

I just realised this is like the mindset of my five year old nephew. He thinks that women are in a constant state of pregnancy, and the babies just randomly decide to start growing and that's when people begin to show.

Great minds think alike!

I guess I don't see what the big deal here is cause its just to reduce the time to have a legal abortion. Here in Ireland abortion isn't even an option for women as its 100% illegal.

The notion of being pregnant 2 weeks before conception is ridiculous though.

The fact that Ireland has yet to catch up with most civilized countries in allowing women freedom of choice really is irrelevant, that is not the path I want the USA to go down.
