I am really sorry. I feel terrible for this. Cos Journalism is my first love, its my passion. You have no idea how miffed I am having to give this up. Its just my family's financial situation right now that is making me take this up. Plus, journalists here get paid a lot less than what they deserve, so there's that as well, looking at my current financial situation. But yeah, I won't stop writing and maybe if I get placed abroad, I'll take up a Masters course. (Planning in my dreams, lol.)

We get paid less than what we deserve everywhere, so don't feel bad at all. And don't apologize. I just like giving people a hard time about succumbing to the dark side because I'm too much of a chicken shit to do it myself. ;) I wish you luck, and don't stop dreaming!

So I don't want to get my hopes up, but a woman called today from a company downtown. She read my resume online and she wanted to schedule an interview with me on Friday. If I heard this correctly, I'm pretty sure it was a graphic design position where I work with clients to get jobs done.

Graphic design. The very thing I was going to school before. It's a full time job, parking is free, and I would probably receive benefits. The salary is literally 10 times more than I'm making at my retail job. It's hard for me to wrap my brain around this. I don't even have my degree, but was resume was decent enough that I could get a job in my field? No way.

The woman is supposed to send me an email with the address of the business. All I can do now is wait on it so I can look up more information about them.

Had this bloke on the phone today who sounded a bit desperate "so you deliver packages and stuff right?? i thought i should ring this number i found it on your website what do i do now??i have all these boxes" bless him. I don't have much to do all day because it's almost bouwvak (the two weeks literally everyone buggers off on holiday) but for some reason I'm getting lots of phone calls from potential new clients so that's pretty good.

I caved.  I finally put together an official resumé.  Guess the bio thing is cool but not really what most of the world wants to read.

In an interesting development, my old boss sent me 2 possibilities with his daughter's company and a suggestion on someone to send my resumé to that has lots of contacts (and I've also known for a long time).  Interesting that he's looking out for me?  Guilty maybe?  Heck, whatever, I'll take all options and see what develops.

Also sent an email to an old friend and he mentioned that his wife (whom I adore) may be looking for help at the Federal Reserve.  Interesting possibility.

So the work of looking for a job goes on.

EDIT:  I HAVE AN INTERVIEW NEXT WEEK!!!!!!!!!!

We didn't get back in town until about 9:45 tonight and I was gonna have to get ready for bed pretty quickly, but I got a text from my co-worker saying I didn't have to come in until 11 tomorrow :D

My boss asked for a two day vacation and I'm freaking the fuck out! ... I'm so freaking scared about all the requests I'm gonna get tomorrow!

So so happy for you! :D ... I know you're having a hard time, and an interview when you least expect it is one of the best feelings ever!

Good luck, even though I know you'll find a job in no time!

It was too good to be true, I think. I'm still going to the interview tomorrow, but I've been reading dozens of reviews on this company and it doesn't look promising. It's 100% commission based. The job appears to be a door-to-door business, trying to sell Verizon services to customers. Reviewers of the company have said that people have called the cops on them for soliciting. They expect you to use your vehicle to go to neighborhoods, some of which are an hour away, to sell these services. They don't compensate you for your gas. How is that related to my field in any way? The recruiter on the phone yesterday made it seem like this would be in my direction.

Sigh. I want to get out of retail and move to a full time job. If I obtain a full time job, I can save away a lot of money. If I save away a lot of money, I can feel financially secure. If I'm financially secure, I can feel comfortable enough to go back to school. If I go back to school, I can finally get my degree. But for anything to work out, I need a decent full time job with benefits.

Well I had my interview today for the full time established lecturer post and I got it! So starting September I'll be full time. Plus I'll be the course tutor for the whole Print and Journalism course. So that's good. Bit scary - that's me locked into a full time job for the next two years at least. I've rejected the Masters I was offered a place on, now it's just a case of saving the dollah and preparing for taking over my upgraded role.

Real life, motherfuckers.

Congrats, Tom. Knew they'd hire you full time. They'd be fools to lose you!

I'm so tired. I might just put my head on my desk and take a nap. Of course, I won't do that... but I wish I could. :D Seems to be a really slow day at the office as well. Everyone's either in a meeting or has the day off, so I'm stuck here alone with my paper work.

So, the interview is done. Hopefully, they will select me. It was quite okay. The tech round was good but the HR guy was quite grumpy. I was under the impression that he didn't like me but my cousin told me later that he's the grumpiest guy in the office.

Fingers crossed. :)

Got my 3 month review at work today. Overall I did very well, there's a few areas I need to improve on, but they're very minor in terms of everything else. My manager said he'll love to have me stay part time during the school year (at least until January when I go off to do a different work term), and I'm more than welcome to come back after I graduate for the Management Trainee program. Whether I choose to go back or not, it's really nice to know I'm pretty much guaranteed a job somewhere after I graduate. Makes me feel much more relaxed.
