Jaymee!!

Name: Adam

Location: Studio City, Ca

How long have you been a fan: 1993

Favourite lyric or quote (one-liner): To live and not to breathe is to die in tragedy

Favourite music video: Basketcase

Funniest Green Day moment: In '94, I met the boys (Tre and Mike) at a music store where Tre was getting sticks for the show that would be later (Tampa Fair Grounds 94) and they got in a car with a couple, lets say healthy girls, in a beat up car with no radio (just wires where the radio should be) and a boom box on his lap. He spoke to us for a few minutes and it was fucking sweet.

1. So, do you even have a face? Or are you a robot? Or something else we’ve never considered? Pics or GTFO.

I have a face.

2. What is your earliest memory involving Green Day?

In utero, I dreamed of them. It's a bit hazey, and since they didn't exist yet, it wasn't well formed.

3. How did you first hear of GDA/GDC, and what compelled you to join way back when?

I googled "Midget Porn", it came up and it wasn't quite what I thought but decided to stick around.

4. If someone were to run up to you on the street and demand you describe yourself in 5 words or less, what would you tell them?

Who the fuck are you? <--- 5 words!!!

5. What is one cherished item you’ve kept over the years? What does it mean to you?

A beaded bracelet I bought from a local in St Marteen on my honeymoon. It means love.

6. What Green Day shows have you been to, and/or which show do you wish you could have attended?

Obviously I wish I was at the Milton Keynes shows as they were classin beyond words. I've been to too many shows to mention but I would say that the 94 Tampa Fairgrounds show and the 2009 Forum show were my favorites.

7. What genre of music would you say defines your music taste? Do you listen to anything that you think people wouldn’t expect? People wouldn't expect?

Well that would depend on the person wouldn't it? I would say people on this forum MAYBE would be surprised to find out that I love hardcore trance and Drum N Bass. Residue from my raver years where I both partied, DJd and threw events. So yeah, I guess you might be surprised by that. I love all music with the notable exception of most country music. Even then, I might find something that has some flavor. After all, I love poetry and lyrics.

8. Guilty pleasures? Everyone has them.

Wow. Keep it PG rated? Guilty pleasures? Umm, Air Supply.

9. What is the strangest food concoction you’ve created that you actually really love?

Pasta bow ties with ketchup and cottage cheese.

10. What is your favourite vacation spot? Why?

Roatan, Honduras. It's a coastal island 60 miles off of Honduras that is absolutely magnificent. It's a slice of heaven on Earth and I have often thought of just retreating there.

11. What is your favourite Green Day song? Least favourite? Favorite song?

Hmmmm.... Changes so often. I would say that a song that never gets old, and I know this is taking the easy path but "Jesus of Suburbia" always always always sounds good to me no matter how many times I hear it. I would also put Brain Stew as a favorite and depends on the day you ask me. The reason I love Brain Stew is that I've been there. I know what it's like to be coming down off of "cross-tops" and feeling like the "clock ins laughing at you...crooked spine" etc. It just really captures with both music and lyrics the disgusting and non-desired feeling of being caught in that unhappy place of being done and the synthetics not quite agreeing with you (that you are). Pure genius. Least favorite song? That's also a hard one. Mainly because I don't dislike many Green Day Songs. There are many songs that I once loved and eventually hated because they got played out both live and by me but I would say a song that hit that spot where I never liked it and it got played out was (and I know I'm going to get flamed for this one) is "Boulevard of Broken Dreams". I swore to myself in an effort to not ever hear that song again, i would punch myself in the balls every time it hits my ears. I am sorry to all of the people that love the song, I and I know there are millions of you but I just can't stand it. I will say that when Billie let's the crowd sing it and it works, it is magical to be a part of but in general, hate it.

12. Phobias and irrational fears, share some of yours?

I am terrified of telitubbies.

13. What is one horribly awkward or embarrassing moment you’ve experienced in your life, and now look back on fondly…or still with terrible misgivings.

This is actually a good story I am going to share with you. Embarrassing to the core, but equally funny, I think anyway. In Gainesville, FL where I went to University of Florida there is something for homecoming they do every year called Gator Growl. It's quite a 3 day party and every year I would have at least 5-10 friends come up from South Florida to stay with me and crash on my extra bed, couch, floor, etc. So one year, I had about 10 people over and being the good host, on the Saturday morning before the football game I went to the deli that I frequent at about 10am while everyone was sleeping to pick up some nutritious bagels for all. It was a brisk morning so I thew on a pair of jeans and a leather jacket. So I get to the shop which was in a grocery plaza, park my car, get out and head to the door of the deli/restaurant which was quite busy because of Growl. Now what happened in the next few seconds is quite hard to type and get the timing right. I am heading straight for the door which was maybe 30 yards away from my car and as I'm walking towards the door of the deli I do a morning yawn and stretch. The leather jacket I'm wearing pulls up my shirt about half way up my body and reveals my very open zipper fly. Needless to say, I did not put on my boxers before i head out and I immediately feel a cold breeze across my (insert regional word for male organ) and as I realize what is happening, I make eye contact with the waitress who opened the door for a customer and they both are looking DEAD AT IT. I shit you not. I knew the waitress too which made it worse. This was not a case of "I felt they were because it happened". Eye contact was made. I turned around, got in my car and never went to that deli again as a long as I lived in Gainesville. The worst part of it, was that it was, well, COLD.

14. What is your favourite thing about GDC? What would you do to improve it, or what things would you like to see happening around the place?

My favorite thing about GDC are the people. The mods and the users are simply awesome. They will call you on your shit, make you laugh doing it and are generally out to protect one another. I think this is a great community and the people are why I keep coming back to read the forums after always leaving for several weeks or months. My only recommendation for change, would be an auto-save on PMs as I have to type most of this 2x because I accidently hit backspace.

15. If I gave you an elephant, where would you hide it?

How the fuck would i hide an elephant? On second thought, why the fuck are you giving me an elephant. Hide your own elephant and quit laying your problems on me.

16. What are some nicknames you’ve acquired over the years?

C-Rock (crock6000) was my DJ name and my first production company. Any friend of mine that I met from 94-2002 still calls me C-Rock, Abs, Abby, Eggman.

17. If we were going to have a slumber party, what movies would we watch?

Depending on who "WE" are. Airplane, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Scarface, Wizard of Oz, Lord of the Rings, Star Wars, Space Balls, The Wall, and so many more that the night would have to last for days.

18. What are some of your favourite pieces of literature?

How to Eat Fried Worms, The Alchemist, Hitchiker's Guide to the Galaxy, Goodnight Moon.

19. What is your favourite way to relax?

Sex on the beach.

20. What is your favourite breakfast?

Egg white omelet, hash browns, and toast with jam.

21. What other bands have you seen live, if any?

I have seen so many bands live that I wouldn't know where to begin but I'll name a few of my favorite shows. From one festival alone would be too many to name but to name a few of my favorites off the cuff: Run DMC, Beastie Boys, Gorillaz, Grateful Dead, Phish, String Cheese Incident, Prince, Pink Floyd, Roger Waters, Foo Fighters, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Weezer, and literally 100s more. I've seen everyone that's toured in Rock, RnB and Hip Hop over the last 15 years for the most part. If you want to know about someone specific, I guess ask?

2, 3, 4, 12: BAHAHAHAHAHA!

11, and the part of 18 where you said you like The Alchemist... (I'm assuming you mean Paulo Coelho's The Alchemist): You started off so good and turned out to be such a disappointment :( Hahahaha. I can even forgive you for your comments on BOBD, but Paulo Coelho, I've read nearly all of his books up until The With of Portobello and can sum them all up simultaneusly in just one paragraph. So I might forgive you if this is his only book you've read, so you haven't been able to notice that all his books are exactly the same. Now I'll shut up before I start ranting about Paulo Coelho.

17 and 18 (again): Eternal Sunshine..., The Lord of the Rings, Star Wars, etc... ok, I'd watch movies with you, and The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy... maybe I can overlook that you like Paulo Coelho. :P

Sorry to everyone else who's been interviewed, this is my favourite one so far. God I laughed.

So many people don't give bass players and the instrument in general it's due props. I am a huge fan of bass in every form.

I love funk, jazz, and drum n bass. I love percussive bands which is why I think in general people that love bands like GD and RHCP enjoy bass whether they realize it or not. A lot of people don't have an ear for it and appreciate it on a subconscious level but Green Day and I think most "punk" bands have fans that love bass. It's such an integral part of the music and often over-looked and under appreciated.

There are some bands where they break the mold like in Green Day and The Peppers but by and large even when the bassist is featured, they get lost in the fray.

I agree to what you have just said. As a bassist, I know what I'm going through here. I'm not allowed to explore the sound of bass at my will. I may not be an expert, I have started bass about 9 months ago but yeah I love bass, I always did. In India, there are no bass solos, which makes me mad. And there's not much scope for a bassist. I got in touch with the guy who was my inspiration as a bassist. He played in a big Pakistani band. When I told him, I wanted to be a bassist like him, he said to me "Forget bass if you wanna become something here. Sing or play the lead. Nobody pays attention to bass here. Bass is like a foundation for the song, the whole song stands on bass but here nobody cares. So if you wanna do something, just keep bass out of the picture."

That hurt a lot.

That is the most ridiculous story about Tre and Mike ... yet also incredibly unsurprising.

Never let the words of another man hurt you. People like to speak sometimes just to see their lips move.

AND ANYONE that tells you to follow a path because "nobody pays attention to bass here" is not only an asshole but he's as dumb as he is mean. Fuck that.

Follow your heart. Believe me when I tell you that some of the best musicians I know (and I know a lot) are bassists. The very reason is they got in to it not because they wanted to be the loudest but because they love the instrument they play. I know a lot of very classically trained musicians that just make the quick jump to bass or synth bass.

Next time you see that asshole, play him this:

or

[media=]

or ask him what instrument controls this song

Fuck that don't and don't let other people affect you so much, especially ass-holes.

Thank you so much for the motivation. I really needed that. You are awesome and I mean it.

I was covering JoS and I almost lost the motivation to do so cos I always made mistakes in the 'I dont care' part. But I'm gonna do it no matter what. Thanks !

Always read your username as crock, like the shoes :P

Pink Floyd and Roger Waters are on my bucket list.

And Roatan is gorgeous! It's a wonderful place to relax and enjoy life.

Not really sure what you mean but do you mean that I offended someone? If so, I'm truly sorry. I love all people, was just fucking around. I have certainly known to be accidentally insensitive.

If the meaning of your post is what I think. Not quite sure.

Ahaha no, I mean that y'know, Green Day are not very tall, googling "Midget Porn" can easly conduct to them. It's not so strange that you found something Green Day related like GDA/GDC just searching for "Midget Porn", from my point of view

Great interview, Adam. So many people around here seem to know a lot about you so it's nice to have this interview to get a bit more of an idea of who you are.

So, question, you DJ'ed? In LA? Any stories you'd care to share about those days?

Oh, and congrats on your new daughter!

I forgot you were from Honduras.

That's something we couldn't do in the early early-mid 90s. Just get on a music forum and "meet" people from all over the world. That's something that you guys should realize (as I'm sure many of you do) is a very cool thing.

How often do you get to visit Roatan? I really would love just buy a house there and live the rest of my days in paradise. I've been to every major spot in the Caribbean and it's by far my favorite. Found it by accident on a cruise initially.

I've only been there twice, but I planned a trip ffor july 20 this year. It's the ideal place to visit and I'm really excited. But we have two other houses on the north coast, one in Tela and one in Trujillo. Both beautiful places to visit too.

:) I'm not a huge scholar when it comes to literature. Therefore when answering that question as to not bore people with what I actually read which is non-fiction and biographies, I decided to try sound a little more well rounded by saying that I enjoy The Alchemist. You are obviously much more learned in the way of literature and now I hate that book that I once loved. ;) I am actually a fan of dreams and memories and what it means on a spiritual level which is also the reason Eternal Sunshine is one of my favorite movies of all time. So, yes, The Alchemist is the only book I ever read by Coelho and it was probably mandated.

I've always felt like a quasi-intellectual with a dumb guy just dying to get out. I will make it a point that the next work of fiction I read will not be that of Pablo. I was hesitant to do this interview because I was afraid of the responses but thanks for making the first one a) exist and b) fun to read.

Rock on.

You know, if you like non-fiction and biographies, and since you seem to be a bit of a fan of the caribbean, I'm going to recommend to you a historic novel about a dictator who ruled in the Dominican Republic some 50 years ago. The book is The Feast of the Goat, by the Peruvian author Mario Vargas Llosa (he's won a Nobel Prize and everything). I'm not a huge fan of historic novels, but that book is one of my all time favourites, but also one I never want to read again.

they used to play videos on MTV

This is the ultimate proof that you're old.

(Well, I too can remember watching videos on Mtv :( Hahaha)

People like to speak sometimes just to see their lips move.

This is the wisest thing I've ever read on this forum.
