A mere zygote does not equal a human being. It's not a human until it can function on its own without the mother. So, up until about the 8th month, it's not a person, it does not have a soul. I'm not 100% pro-choice, but your argument just slightly irks me.

so children up to the age of, lets say 4, can just be disposed of because they most likely won't be able to make it without their parents. That's how I read that argument.

I also will just play off of definition here and state that YES a zygote is human. 46 chromosomes in each of it's cells that codes for everything human. Person is what we're looking for in this case.

not really, it just means they have different standards for those different things.

okay so let me get this straight

collection of cells >= human > animals > humans dying on the other side of the world ('cause y'know, who cares?)

Worded incorrectly again. I meant children whose organs wouldn't be able to work without the aid of the mother, like lungs. There are instances of preemies, and I'm not saying they're not human. I'm just saying that to me, a clump of cells in the uterus, chromosomes or not, doesn't equal a human.

The anti-choice movement in the United States is getting frightening. Although Obama has already said he will immediately veto any bill that tries to restrict the right to choose abortion, the fact that the entire anti-abortion movement has been trying to introduce bill after horrifying bill (Amendment 26 in Mississippi is just one example) is terrifying. So glad the voters in MS got their shit together and realized how much something like Amendment 26 (that would outlaw abortion at any gestational age, as well as make birth control illegal, to name a few of the gems of that bill) would strain the economy and voted it down...but now Florida is trying to introduce a "fetal pain" bill and Ohio is trying the same crap as MS.

Yeah I'm quite disturbed by the unchecked Republican power here since Rick Scott took office. At least Crist vetoed things like the mandatory ultrasound bill, but he was our last protection against the crazies.

no. you said pro life people that are pro capital punishment and not vegetarian?

human life > animal life > collection of cells > criminal life it would be in that case.

you imply that people who are pro life should think human life = animal life and criminal life, which isn't really fair. and I'm not getting into a thing about the criminal part.

Proof?

Hmm, why don't you ask any credible doctor involved in abortions? They'll all say the same.

I do believe you're totally missing the point.
Keep burying your head in the sand, just like the "pro life" people who think nothing of eating a burger or a hotdog.
Cutting the throat of an animal that lived and breathed is ok, but the removal of a bunch of cells is abhorrent.

I do believe you're missing the point that a human has a soul and an animal does not.

People who work on farms will occasionally become radical vegans, I'm sure. The vast majority of reproductive health providers understand the importance of their work and feel no guilt, and they certainly shouldn't.

And what qualifies as a credible doctor? Because I'm pretty sure any doctor who has their degree is "credible".

animals have families. embryos don't, when it comes down to it. nothing has a soul.

Criminals are human beings.

I said I wouldn't get into this John. I have to oversimplify for argument's sake, because otherwise derailments like these happen.

For the record, obviously criminals are human beings.

oh look.

-souls are not real

-being a clump of human cells does not qualify being a human life. if that were the case *pulls hair out* murder, right there.

-going by your logic, surely the 'child' that hasn't had a taste of human life wouldn't be saved, because they don't know what they are missing?

-you don't have a uterus do you?

Are you athiest? Souls are completely real.
A clump of cells isn't human? It has all the necessary qualifications to live. It isn't a "clump of cells" it's an unborn human.
And when the unborn would go to heaven (if you aren't an athiest) then it would surely realize what it missed.

If you're starting with the having souls thing, you're not gonna convince anyone. Say something credible and scientifically grounded, not a vague idea like a "soul" which many people do not believe exist at all.
