I find dark humor funny. Most of the time. As others have said, as long as it doesn't hit close to my "hot" buttons, I'm okay with it. But I have no problem with the jokes themselves, I just don't want to hear those particular ones. And if a particular comic is known for them, I'll just tune him or her out. I don't have to listen. Makes life easier.

Well in fairness it was the first joke that came to mind as someone had told me it lately. I was not picking on black people, Id quite easily laugh at jokes about other races, as I said it was literally the first thing that came to mind

I know. The point was you actually said it in a funny way. When people say it in an unfunny way it is just offensive.

I think the joke has to be funny enough to justify the subject matter and the comedian has to be self deprecating/likeable enough not to come across as if they're looking down on people. Perhaps that's why Jimmy Carr gets away with it and Frankie Boyle doesn't.

Personally, if something's funny enough, I don't mind it. When it was my nannan's funeral on Comic Relief day a few years ago, someone asked whether we should all be wearing red noses. The mental image still makes me smile now. And as much as I felt for his kids (possibly a poor choice of words there), some of the Michael Jackson jokes that were going round after he died were amazing.

But that's not a sexist joke, that's a joke about sexism. I always understood it, that the guy was making fun of the shameless and retarded sexism in the mainstream hip hop culture.

I like this even better:

I like dark humour well enough, though some subjects are really touchy with me. Like others said you should really take the other person into consideration before joking about certain things. I don't usually get angry at people for making jokes unless there's some pretty shitty feelings behind it. We were talking about the candidates for president today in Irish and when Norris (a gay man) came up one of the lads told the teacher he "wouldn't turn his back on him" thinking he was oh so fucking hilarious. I was pissed at that because he like nearly everyone else in this town is a homophobic prick. However if say one of my gay friends said it, I'd just laugh. Same with most sexist jokes, I tend to take them seriously because in this town people genuinely think like that.

That reminds me of this:

Dear white fella
Couple things you should know
When I born, I black
When I grow up, I black
When I go in sun, I black
When I cold, I black
When I scared, I black
When I sick, I black
And when I die, I still black.

You white fella
When you born, you pink
When you grow up, you white
When you go in sun, you red
When you cold, you blue
When you scared, you yellow
When you sick, you green
And when you die, you grey.
And you have the cheek to call me colored?????

I ALWAYS loved that saying or poem or how you'd call it.
It's great!

Nothing is off limits. Aiming your hyper sensitive vitriol at jokes and the common vernacular is much less useful than combating real societal problems. Also some shit is just really funny because it's inappropriate.

It depends on who's dead. I honestly beleive if someone didn't deserve respect in life, they don't deserve it in death. So if they were an asshole, I say go ahead and crack those jokes all the way to their grave.

The we watcthed the movie "Fargo" by the Coen brothers...

I could tell a great joke about "The Wall" right now...

I think there's a definite "cooldown" period after someone's death where joking about it is inappropriate. Like with Steve Jobs--I think the graphic going around Facebook that begs Kevin Bacon not to die is mildly entertaining, but probably a little early.

There's also much to be said for your audience, again. I doubt anyone's hanging that picture up around Apple HQ, much like I doubt anyone is dumb enough to tell the wall joke at a NASCAR race.
