Webb_2011 Posted February 10, 2011 Share Posted February 10, 2011 John Gallagher (@JohnGallagherJr) posted on his twitter earlier today that Feb 27th at 7:30 will be his last performance on American Idiot on Broadway. Earlier in the day AmericanIdiotNY posted on twitter that starting March 1st the role of Johnny will be played by Van Hughes. Also the role of Extraordinary Girl will be played by Libby Winters starting the same date. I got the opportunity to see AI on 7/13/2010 and I thought John did an outstanding job as Johnny. I can't imagine the musical without him. I'm sure Van Hughes (not familiar with him) will do a great job as well. Will be interesting to see how he brings the character of Johnny to life. plaid ducky Posted February 10, 2011 Share Posted February 10, 2011 It is not uncommon for cast members to leave especially around the 9 to 12 month mark. That's just how this theatre thing goes. Van is a wonderful Johnny and has a different approach to Johnny than John. I hope everyone gives him a chance. John has been part of "American Idiot" since the beginning. He was the first cast member to be part of the production back in 2008. Best of luck to him. If I heard of his next project, I'll pass it along. I'm not as excited about it anymore =( I loved those actors/singers, and maybe just 'cause I got used to them, and they are.. well, the original cast!!
